Title: MaxiKing and MonolithicBacon's Map Packs!

Hey guys!

To celebrate our time with not only the Eastern Front mod, but with Company of Heroes in general, Maxi and myself have hatched a plan to create our very own map packs!

This will contain various goodies that we have created over the years, from one-off projects, map conversions and anything else that isn't already in the Eastern Front map pool itself!

Below we have a list of the map packs already released, and the works in progress! Enjoy!

You'all are to be encouraaged in your effort. If EF_maps are included I would like to see some of the deleted maps included. Uninstalling and rebuilding EF step by step to get old maps is a pain in the butt.  8)

I think the Devs should do a PR effort outside the EF Community when your Map Pack comes out.

I would like to see some of the deleted maps included.

We'll see if this is going to happen. I deleted the maps for a reason, actually. Either their quality didn't match EF's general quality standard or they were broken beyond any recognition (see old Stalingrad).
Subsequently, and because this project is meant to include high quality maps, I'd rather not put the old EF maps in the map pack. I can upload them nonetheless, just PM me and you'll get what you want.

I have some nice stuff to put in the pack, we'll provide you with frequent screenshots at this place!

As promised, here are the first screenshots for the winter conversions!

I will add more of these for each map as they develop, or once I get the spare time.

First up, we have Sturzdorf (4):

Beaux Lowlands is still okay but Carpiquet is a crappy map, I think you wasted your time for that map.

Post by: MonolithicBacon on December 09, 2012, 02:01:25 PM
It's not the normal 2 player version. It's the campaign map, converted into six players.

Frankly, I think it's one of Relic's best maps in the whole game.

MonolithicKing... It's got a ring to it.

Thanks anyways! Due to the time constraints of getting as many maps to you guys as soon as we humanly can, everything so far has been conversions, but take it from me, collaborative, original maps are on the way!

Personally I can't wait!

Do the snow map conversions have falling snow too?
Title: Re: MaxiKing and MonolithicBacon's Map Pack!

We are in charge of creating snowy weather options for the game setup menu if you would like us to do so!
Title: Re: MaxiKing and MonolithicBacon's Map Pack!
Post by: MonolithicBacon on December 10, 2012, 10:14:12 PM
St Fromond and Beaux Lowlands are supposed to be in a state of thaw (depending on which camera angle you use, you see a lot of moisture on the surfaces), while Stuzdorf is snowing lightly.

Other than that, as Maxi said, we may put some additional weather settings in so that it is! Everyone loves dark, snowy maps (so long as it's not obscuring your view!).

Is it possible to add light inside the buildings? It's twilight even night, white ground and lamp light coming from building windows. Would be great.

I bet it is possible. One of the lampposts is used to show entrances to bunkers or rural buildings, and could easily be hidden inside!

Nice idea!

Love it bad, the subtle blue lighting on the snow reminds me of the Cascade Falls map in WiC... where everything is lost so they call in the tactical nuke. It's a Christmas fairytale!

Lol I also tought it sounds not realistic, houses with families eating popcorn while Panzers are roaring outside :D But visually it will add depth if it's done.

Awesome work out there, Semois and Ango seems boss.

Those maps have proven to excel as 2v2 maps, mostly they're bigger and thus fit both 2p and 4p scenarios.
Thanks!

Sadly, only EF and Battle of the Bulge mod will support these maps as Bacon and me made use of Lord van Dalen's environmental Winter objects.

Title: Re: MaxiKing and MonolithicBacon's Map Pack!
Post by: b.iron on December 26, 2012, 03:18:29 AM
Hi, I just copied it to C:\Users\%user%\Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\ww2\Archives and it didnt work. I created the Archives folder because it didnt exist in the that path initially and opened EF.

Then, I found the Archives folder on C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\Eastern_Front\Archives and C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\WW2\Archives and copied the file in both folders and it still wouldn't work. What is going on? ???
Title: Re: MaxiKing and MonolithicBacon's Map Pack!
Post by: Max 'DonXavi' von B. on December 26, 2012, 03:28:00 AM
Strange. Both the other folders won't work, the first one should have done that! Could you please post a screenshot of the directory you pasted the file in?
Title: Re: MaxiKing and MonolithicBacon's Map Pack!
Post by: b.iron on December 26, 2012, 03:34:13 AM
Ok, solved. I tried this step:

I pasted the file on C:\Users\%user% \Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\ww2\scenarios and it finally worked. Not sure why it needs another path on some users for it to work though. Could it be that it differs on non-Steam users? I had mine from the original CD.
Title: Re: MaxiKing and MonolithicBacon's Map Pack!
Post by: Max 'DonXavi' von B. on December 26, 2012, 03:36:43 AM
The "Company of Heroes" folder in "My Games" is created regardless of owning the Steam version. Perhaps you didn't paste the file correctly or for a wrong user.
Good to hear you were able to fix it, though! Have fun playing!

Alright, Ladies and Gents, it's time for the first sneaks of our new map pack:

"World Fronts"

Although there isn't a set decision on how many maps will be included in the pack, four are a work in progress, and three are finished!

So, onto the pictures!

First up, Fromelles (4):

And finally (for now) Novorossiysk (6):

Title: Re: MaxiKing and MonolithicBacon's Map Pack!
Post by: Max 'DonXavi' von B. on January 04, 2013, 06:56:41 PM
The idea behind World Fronts was to create maps from all over the globe, representing many different theatres of war. What we have until now is:

Fromelles (4): A classic trench warfare map, designed for the Great Patriotic War (TGW) mod.
Ruweisat Ridge (4): A North African map bringing the unique flavour of desert combat into your very own homes. Created for Company of Heroes: Afrika mod.
Novorossiysk (6): The bigger brother of one of Eastern Front's Ostheer maps. The port facilities of Novorossiysk became vital for both Soviet and German troups during the second world war.

And yet, there are more to come:

Battle of Arras (2) - TGW
Chania (4) - Battle of Crete mod
Maleme Airfield (4) - Battle of Crete mod
Peleliu Airfield (4) Pacific Thunder mod
Karelia (6) - Eastern Front mod

As Bacon said; keep your eyes peeled!

Welcome back, everyone! My apologies for the lapse in updates, but there's a reason for this:

Chania (4)! This beast has taken forever, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that this has rapidly become my favourite urban map.

Firstly the view from the top of the city, looking down the tiers towards the coast. Here the combat is mobile and open,  but controlling these areas allows significant pressure to be applied to the rest of the city.

Now the middle tier of the city, restricted, tight and hazardous. Flamers, mgs and mortars rule the streets here.

The western and eastern streets, climbing the tiers, flanked and dangerous.

This map still needs plenty of testing, but it has already been a pleasure to work on, and I hope you all come to enjoy it as much as I have upon release.

Oh, and there are more maps coming soon!

And once again, I'm back! This time with our addition to the Battle of Norway: Vinjesvingen (4)!

Here, dense forests became the place of ambush and desperate standoffs between forces, turning into a bloody, difficult skirmish.

Welcome back to another update of the World Fronts map pack!

This time I'll show you the rural brother of Chania; which already has been revealed by Bacon. It is called "Maleme Airfield (4)" and is meant to display the village and airfield of Maleme which became vital for both British and German troops in the Battle of Crete in 1941.
The Luftwaffe's need for an airfield on Crete was immense, hence combat in the surrounding areas became fierce. British and Greek troops alike, dug in on Hill 107, tried to prevent the German airborne troops from taking the airfield - to no avail. Due to merciless bombardmend by Stukas, the brave defernders soon had to surrender to the waves of German heavy infantry raining down upon them.

Tante Ju has landed already, Bofors is unmanned! Now fighting continues at the ground...
