Title: Possible Relic Purchase?
Post by: ForceMultiplier on October 07, 2009, 01:30:56 AM
Hi All,

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but I wanted to ask the creators if they ever considered the possibility of selling the mod to Relic and have them release it officially?

I'm sure it has been in the back of your minds, if Relic approached you guys would you do it?

It is pretty clear that all COH fans have been waiting for an expansion such as this. From day 1 people have been wanting to see the Russians in action. However Relic has never appeared to entertain the idea, you guys have done a fantastic job so far and developed it to the point it is at now.

In a way it would be nice if Relic bought it off you and released it officially, that way you guys get some recognition and the mod will get more exposure and integration.

Any thoughts?

Wow that's an interesting development. Any particular reason why? :)

Haha, your joking? Maybe...

Also wondering why you declined?

Cheers

Yeah, I was joking.

Although we have actually been in contact with Relic. I don't know the specifics, but they have playtested the Alpha (they approve), and I think they have fixed certain bugs for us. Unfortunately they have more 'pressing' matters, as Apex stated, but beggars can't be choosers.

Awesome! It'd be good if they'd advertise the mod, the cnc studios do that quite a lot on bcpt....

That's really cool. Although you guys are doing awesome work, it would be cool if you had Relic's developers tools at your disposal. At least they support you, for a while I was really concerned about Relic sending a 'Cease and Desist' order, like Bungie did with the Halo RTS mod for Command & Conquer: Generals.

Yeh I would doubt they would do that,

Too many fans want to see an Eastern Front aspect to the game, even if they have nothing to do with release it will make them money by increasing interest in the game.

To the developers, thanks for being honest/candid about all this. :)

Eventually they will most likely release there own version of a COH Eastern Front.

Somehow, I doubt it. Otherwise they would have been more cautious about helping us reach our maximum potential.

Yeah, I think Relic is moving on with COH (besides COH:Online) and/or just wants to keep it in the Western Front.

Do you guys think that relic is just leaving coh? I personaly think so. I mean what was with tales of valor???????? I think that any new single player coh is almost out of the question. But multiplayer add on's are probably gonna start comming.
I hope

It would be in Relic's Best Interests to support the mod, at least with space on their advertising:  They could move some copies that way.  Not to mention getting people playing CoH again...

Best of Luck to ya guys

 Well, nothing much to add.
Xcept to agree that Relic giving this some exposure is a win/
 win situation :)

I didn't know Relic had played the Alpha (they approve) :)
 Thumbs up!

It is a win/win situation I have gotten five people on Steam to buy COH (TOV and the old ones) just because I showed them a couple of pictures of the mod

Yea, I've gotten quite a few people to pay for COH also, using
the EF videos :D But then... it's... hey, Mod isn't out yet?

... Well, no... but, see, can play this 4 yr old USA campaign
 instead, see??

Sigh. Yea, I get what you mean, completely.
Guess you can keep telling them that for the next 80 years
or so, though ;) 'It'll come out withn just a few days...' ;)

The wonderful thing about 'few' is that it's relative.
Can mean anything between 2-3 to untold billions and
trillions of years... ;) It's all about perspective, I suppose :D

Not bloody likely! Relic may support the mod, even endorse it through unofficial channels, but unlike Valve they aren't exactly fond of the Modding community inasmuch as tolerant. And their purchasing the mod is even more unlikely.

I have never heard some one from Cincinnati use the word bloody  ;D

We Cincinnatians try not to be predictable.

Sigh, I always knew you two would hit it off ;)

Well, either way. We'll see what happens, right?
I'd like lots of people to use this, so that we can all play
it, and not be forced to use a 'mod' (splitting the community).
If it's popular enough, then relic might make a move to
integrate it. One can only hope :D

How could you possibly? You barely know me.

I doubt a community split would be a major inconvenience to a company that's investing no more into the game.

It happened to Red Orchestra the Darkest Hour mod toatly split the people I play both but I like RO because of the PTRD ;D but playing as England is always nice (using that Bren Gun)

I don't see problems with Soviets being integrated into
vanilla COH, as long as they're banned from Ranked games?

True, but once again, if they did that, relic would have to support the mod with workers and money, something I doubt they want to do

Exactly, it would force them to maintain a level of professionalism with regard to the mod and place them in control of managing updates as well as feedback with regard to the new faction, fixing bugs, etc. They'd be better off doing Company of Heroes 2.
