Title: IS-2 balance Issues
Post by: bigbear948 on October 25, 2009, 04:12:11 PM
The soviet guide says that the IS2 Heavy tank is availiable from the tank hall , this seems a bit OP because all other factions have to call in Heavy tanks from doctrine ablities.

Su 85s also seem to be a bit unecessary too, because you can just upgrade T34s with 85mm guns.  The other allied factions seem to cope with german heavy armour ok.

I Really like the mod though.

Panther and "Bergetiger" are heavy tanks as well.

The Panther is on the thin line between medium and heavy, but it is classed as a Medium tank. And the Bergtiger doesn't really count since it's unarmed.

Its all to do with balance; power and other factions have nothing to do with it. Panther was superior to the Sherman because the Wehr have worse troops earlier in the game. The Soviets are the same... they suffer early on - poor infantry, no retreat, no recrew, no MG's, no light vehicles... all this is counter balanced later on with a buildable Heavy tank.

By the time the tank hall is built won't the T70 be obsolete and no use ? The German will probaby have tanks out by then and Panzer 4 vs T70 is a no brainer. I'm guessing T90 is the equivalent for the Ostwind.

German infantry can get pretty tough late-game. You will be thankful of an armoured infantry-killer.

also in the guide it sais "You can build any one of these buildings at any time, given the resources" meaning you can get the tank hall first for early t-70s

T70 / T90 is more like puma w/ or w/o up-gunned (with = 70, w/o = 90)

It is not possible, it require too much fuel.
You can not just sit and wait for fuel.

The questions were not answered, though.
The IS2 is the russian Panther. Fine. They're equal
in 1vs1 for balance reasons, fine. BUT the IS2 is MORE
than the Panther because 1) It has better side armor,
and it's gun while equal to the Panther (in-game) has
HE powers the Panther doesn't have (Thus is better).

I suggested giving IS2 shit reload speed (historical)
and big punch, to compensate for Panther's weakness?
(Don't tell me they'll have same stats in-game!)

IS2: More armor, more health, more all-around. More HE.
 Shit reload.
Panther : Longer range, reloads faster, similar AT
characteristics (but less life). Could fudge mathematics
to make those two way different, yet equal in duels.

IS2 is PROT, Panther is DPS(Comparatively)
Giving IS2 weaker optics would be a nice malus
to give it a nice juicy punch (histofrical).

The idea here is to make them different yet balanced.
 with a historical flavor.
