All I can say is thank you to the team. A couple of buddies and I have been raving about how awesome it would be to play as the Russians and storm in on Eastern Front maps. This is truly going to be a wonderful thing for Company of Heroes and will get us firing our CoH's all over again for months to come.
I'm very excited to see this mod come to light and if there is any way I can help advertise the mod, please let me know.
Awesome work on the video too!

I knew about this mod forever but I threw it into the back of my mind and completely forgot about it. Until my friend got the game and he asked for me to look for a GOOD mod.
I remembered this mod and signed up

Well it's good to see a good mod coming up for this game, it really deserves it.

It rely NEEDS it
-
- I like the new models, the new units, the new spec
doctrine trees (strategies)... ...
I really like that they're ADDED to regular COH, in that
they don't try to change 'vanilla' COH. Tons of other mods
change everything. While nice, those never become main
stream, and, this might MIGHT allow EF to become official?
:D One can hope.
- The one thing I don't like... REALLY don't like.
Is how teching works. It SEEMS way too easy to tech
rapidly. Making the T34 useless, if I can make IS2
directly, no?
I haven't tried the BETA, but I strongly feel teching is
waayy too easy.
-
So, the Panzer IV is useless because people can build Panthers? The IS-2 requires all 3 main buildings before it can be constructed. If you Tech quickly (i.e, you build a Barracks first and then a Tank Hall, skipping the Support Barracks), you don't get access to it...

To build the T-34, you need only the tank hall and either Mustering Tent/Support Barracks. However to get IS-2, you need all three. we don't know strengths and weaknesses or even costs of the tanks at this point either, so it seems like the devs know what they are doing.
Here (http://easternfront.org/forums/index.php?topic=882.0) is how the tiers work.
Btw devs, could you somehow show this in the guide or even add the info in my thread to the FAQ, its annoying to find my thread every time I forget how its divided
EDIT: ninja'd by dev
-
I know EXACTLY how the tiers work :)
And, yea, I DO NOT BOTHER with the Pz4.
I only make Panthers and StuG. If I need anti-infantry
work I 'll use the Pz4/37. But never, never, never, ever
would I bother with the Pz4/75 unless I have to.
I know I need 3 buildings to make IS2. But why in hell
would I bother with T34/76, upgrade to T34/85...
if I can buy 1 little extra inexpensive building
(surely of equivalent cost to the T34/85 conversion)
if I can skip all that and go straight to the yummy IS2?
Which is AT/AI/HT hybrid (like Tiger)... I mean, WTF
I'd like to know what is the advantage of SU85 over
T34/85, too? (cost?)
-
If you plan to build nothing but IS-2's then good for you. T-34's are there so people have quick access to armour... you can build 2 T-34's to the price of 1 IS-2 and you could probably build 2 T-34's in the same time it takes to build an IS-2. IS-2's also have a massive pop cap (12 in the current build) so unless you have an army entirely manned by conscripts, you're not likely to get many on the battlefield, T-34's spread around the fire-power a bit. SU-85's have better penetration (I think) and longer range than T-34/85's. Also, as with all Self Propelled guns, it is hard to flank because it turns to follow its target.

yes................a entire army run by conscripts Muhahaha. I feel like Stalin right now ;D

Strelky need love too >:(
-
: 12 pop isn't massive. Not by a long shot.
: You guys should make AOE repair trucks :) Like in
Codename panzers :D
: Does the IS2 function like a no-limit Pershing tank?
And what is it's HE ability? At 122mm please tell me
that it's deadlier than, say, the Panzer4's HE blast?:)
: If IS2 is hybrid (like Pershing), please. PLEASE explain
to me why I'd want anything than an army of them +
conscripts for capping? :)
- double cost?
Sounds like T34 has 300 and IS2 has 600 (Panther) costs.
I'd still prefer to have IS2 over T34/76 though.
: Saying SU85 has limitations (Hard to flank with)
does NOT give me reasons to buy it :)
: If the difference in cost between T34/85 upgrade
and extra building (thus reaching magical T3). Why
in HELL would I want to bother with T34?
Might want to bring IS2 to 14 pop. It doesn't have
limitation in number (like Tiger) and while it is equal to
the panther, it *IS* more well-rounded.
(Better side armor, better anti-infantry/building),
Better HE capability WHILE having better or equal anti-
tank capabilities :)
14 pop it is. It's like a (for balance sake) a crappy
Pershing, not an uber M10 (Like the Panther is)
-
12 pop is a lot

ah indeed they do :) that gives me a though...............thanks Burro!
-
12 pop is NOT a lot.
Churchill take 14-18 pop. They have armor but weak gun.
IS2 has same armor, but major gun. And less pop.
And is non-doctrine. And is a heavy crusher.
And...
No, 12 pop is NOT a lot.
Tiger has only 14 but it's unique.

well if your playing a 1v1 map it is

Loup I love how you've taken an excited and appreciative post on behalf of HaroldSax and turned it into a flame post about T-34s somehow being useless and the IS-2 being OP...
Nice.
And Loup your argument doesn't make sense. Of course T-34s will be useful early on and will continue to be effective throughout the game as a quick, cheap, and potentially deadly armor unit. Like Burro pointed out, Panzer IVs or even StuGs aren't useless simply because the Germans can build Panthers now are they? I know both of em have saved my ass in many a game and it was thanks to their lower costs and quicker production.
Anyways amen to Harold, EF is looking amazing and all the devs seems to be doing great work so keep it up! I too just found out about the mod days ago and have a whole gang of friends who can't wait to storm the Eastern Front. For Mother Russia!
-
Fhurion : ... Utterly apologetic on that, when I get fired up... eh. No, this mod IS awesome, and they are doing an
excellent job of it so far. I appreciate their dedication.
And Contrary to appearances, I'm a fan of the T34 (And
the StuG). I've played it lots in Combat Mission, and love it.
My point was that it's purpose in being was RELATIVE to
what the IS2 is. If the IS2 is too good, then the T34's
relevance vanishes rapidly, and it gets left behind as it is
now obsolete.
My point was to please make it so that there remains a point to making T34s long after IS2 have begun making
an appearance unto the field :) Better?
: Early on, yes, but why pay T85 upgrade if I can get IS2 (T3) for same price? (Build support building then T3 IS2, or pay for T85?) was my point.
the StuG is 4 pop. And quasi Pz4. So it forever remains worthwhile. The Pz4... I'd prefer having 2x StuG than 1 Pz4. Panther is my 'shield''defense crusher' unit.
Pz4 is kinda jack of all trades, master of none. It's real advantage comes from anti-infantry capability without
sacrificing AT. At Vet3, you bet I'll prefer making 2x StuG to 1x Pz4(H?).
---
- I've been pimping the mod aplenty within the game,
on multiple channels
- I guess my approachappears to be I bitch because I admire this mod, and I DO care.
Because we've all been wanting exactly this :)
: Expect me to be outspoken about inclusion of Finnish/Rumanians in Ostheer as doctrine-specific call-
in units ;)
Ford_Prefect: Oh, god, yea. Everything being relative,
I won't have 12x IS2 on a 1vs1 map :) I'm just hoping
there'll be a good-game-mechanic reason to have lots
of T34s? (For such a massively-produced tank...) eh.
4 pop? 6 pop? :) 0 pop??? yessss!
ahh, I can dream, yes?
-
why do you push enter so much ;D
-
Lol i prefer ford_perfects posts since he gets straight to the point and doesn't go on and on and on and on....
plus the column thing is annoying to read.

why thank you kind sir (tip of the hat) if he just stopped with the enter button they would be alot more appeling to the eye and hence the smaller amount of space the less amout of reading a person feels he (or she) has to do (its a trick of the eye)

- Feels not feals ;)
- Oh GOD! A thousand pardons, the online editor, for some
reason is screwy to the extreme for me. So I've taken to
using NotePad to type up my posts...
Okay, the last post was... uhhh. Fixed it, somewhat,
I hope. Well, some write in gangsta, some ask questions
without reading the FAQ that have been asked unnemerable
times. I have good spelling. What if I haven't mastered the
art of the perfect font and situational structuring? ;)

do you use windows explore or firefox? I have found it to be a difference
-
I use Google Chrome/Firefox/Opera/IE8. Depending on
what I try to achieve. I toil on my 2 websites, and it
helps to see the results from different software's point of
views.
Currently using IE8.
Grr. Well, hm, we learn by making mistakes, yes? :)

I found that the longer you stay on the better it gets (my keybord is dying)

The longer I stay online, the more your keyboard is dying?
Ahhh, victory is mine! I knew perseverance would pay off
eventually!!!! :D

OK the 2ND time I have actually "laughed out loud" to a posts ;D that's..........that's good
-
Laughing is good for you! For the soul, for the heart.
Why, I have a deep, rich, maniacal laugh. When I get going,
people flee in terror, leaving all sorts of things behind!
You can't imagine how useful that is in a close game ;)
Yes, I play terror Wehr ;)
-
You want to build the T34/76 because it's an awesome tank.

0.O ok then.................
-
Well, the T34/76 is beautiful, has strong historical weight,
and it has a nice HE effect. It's fast, agile, cheap and light
for it's armor rating. Awesome tank :)
I'd just like an in-game statistical reason for me to want to
build lots of them, yknow? :)
Maybe like M10 cost/driving characteristics, yet Sher75
armor/weaponry. Oh, that would certainly make me
completely abuse this tank in-game... ;)
... But it would be OP. Sigh :)
The art of balance is finding the sweet spot in all of that.
-
First of all the mod seems awesome.
And now to the tank discussion. Two cheaper and faster tanks can often be better than one big, but clumsy tank, particularly if the big tank is unsupported. My point being that it is hard to say anything about which tank will be the better which out the stats, for all we know the T34 could be the OP one. But Loupblanc, somewhere in one of your text walls you had a good point. Their is little reason not to build a Support Barracks before the Tank Hall. It might require more fuel before the tanks come out, but in the mean time you would have, better infantry, AT guns, motars, AT infantry and sharpshooters, which will help you hold on to your fuel points and when the Tank Hall is build all the Tanks will be available. I think that even if the the T34 is a better tank the IS2 I would still build the Infantry Tent and the Support Barrack first.
I will end this post to congratulat the designers on makeing an awesome mod where I can only find a single flaw, the teching system. And I have faith that you will fix this problem as well.
-
Yea, well, all depends on wether the IS2 is more of a panther, or more of a pershing (with a few flaws thrown in) and other
factors. Yea I'd need to have my hands on the beta. Can't
wait for it to be publicly available so can run some tests :)
And yes, totally kickass mod they've put together.
For sure the one I intend to play most in the months to
come. That's why I care so much and am being such a
pain about it. Sigh :) I'm not indifferent :)
