Will the Russians actually speak Russian...or crappy English? And if in the English version of this mod, the Russians speak Rusky-English, will it be possible to take the speech files from the Russian version of this mod so the Soviets actually speak Russian? My Germans currently speak German and Allies speak English.
-
They said they took the Russian sound files from COH for the Russians in the mod. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
-
All speeches have been taking from vanilla factions in Russian. So yes, they all speak Russian, but you might hear occasional 'sherman', 'greyhound' or something similar.
-
ahh nice... thanks for the info
-
Russia faction will speak 'Russian 'american faction-eze' ;)
Such as : We have our shermans and greyhounds! Our Pershing
cannot be beaten! Thanks to god and President Reagan! We
shall push the jerries back!... ... in russian ;)
PTRD squads will call their weapons bazookas... in russian...
See? But, no it won't be crappy english :) Hopy happy :)
-
Why is this important? Wehr and PE speak German-accented English. Russian-accented English is pretty cool IMO.
-
Well, he has his tastes. You can copy paste german-german,
etc on top of 'english' german accented german troops, so...
Heck, I went nuts when my americans spoke french. I fixed
that pretty quick ;)
It would be SUPER nice if we could have russian-soviet and
english-soviet but I'm fine with american russian soviets in
the meantime, but would DEFINITIVELY be something to look
into. I've already offered to get the voices down in russian-
accented french ;)
Focus on getting mod out, first!
If people want to help pitch in, by all means!
Not happy ? Make your own voices/accents. It's not
that difficult. And share it if it's good! :)
Whatever works... works ;)

Agreed. I kinda like the accented English...that way I know what the hell is being said without it taking much away from ambiance. (Although I understand if you're really particular about "accuracy" and all...in which case many movies must suck for you).
My Germans currently speak German and Allies speak English.
And Chancellor, curious how you did this? Or am I completely ignorant and there's an option in-game?
-
You... can... 'mod' the game ;) Lol.
For example, my game version is french :)
I take american version and COPY the speech of USA
so that my US troops stop speaking french and start
speaking american.
Can do same for using russian (*USA*) sound files and
soon my USA troops would start speaking russian :
'Komrades! It's so great to be amerikan! Send that Sherman
tank ahead!!!' (In american-accented russian) ;)
-
Theres a lot of things you can do to make your CoH the way you want it to be without sacrificing online multiplayer/automatch compatibility, such as custom skins or even units replacing other units...for example I can get the Stuka to replace the PE Henschel. But if you just want the sound files to be different, Loup pretty much summed it all up.
The WW2/Archives folder in your CoH directory has the sound files. For example, I downloaded the German speech files WW2AxisSpeechGerman and renamed it to WW2AxisSpeechEnglish, and then replaced my original copy. This file changes the Werhmacht speech files.
-
Exactly!
... WHAT????? I ... *WANT*... to replace HENSCHEL
with STUKA... like... RIGHT... AWAY!!!!...
How you do that? :)
-
Its actually not worth the trouble yet. The Stuka model isn't 100% perfected yet. I'd wait a while if I were you.
-
The Iron Cross mod in-game Stuka looks pretty damn
perfected to me ;)
-
The Russian language is awesome, and making a Soviet Faction it would be a sin to make them speak English!
-
I think USA should speak german, and german speak Hebrew ;)
I'm fine with in-game soviets speaking
1) Russian language 'American faction'
2) Russian language 'Soviet faction'
3) ENGLISH language 'soviet faction' with russian accents ;)
4) GERMAN language 'soviet faction' with russian accents ;)
5) FRENCH language 'soviet faction' with russian accents ;)
etc ;)
-
what the fuck?
-
looks like someone forgets to take his pills.
-
I know that the biggest reason for the Russo-American voices is simplicity, but the mod also has prided itself with being like an expansion. For it to be like a true expansion, the Russians should speak English with an accent. I understand that it is not a big issue right now but the final version, to be true to your original objective, should use 'Russian-English' not 'American-Russian'.
*steps off soapbox.
-
/agree.
If it was good enough for Relic and the GAME OF THE YEAR, then it's good enough for EF.
Russian-accented English FTW!
-
Personally I don't mind either, so long as were not re-using vanilla faction sounds :)
-
I know lots of russian speakers... ;)
Get get french, english and russian voices with russian
accents... !!
Just give me the voice files/texts!!
-
I think it would be best if while installing the mod you could choose the language your troops would speak
-
Sound files probably take up more space than anything else in the mod. We aren't going to include several 'choices', otherwise the download will be nearing 2 gb.
-
No, but you can make a separate download.
:)
-
Personally, I enjoyed understanding what my units say. So that's why I'm wondering if there's an option for the Russians to speak English. All the other factions said some pretty damn funny stuff and I hope the Russians say stuff too.
Like, "In Soviet Russia, you don't kill Russians, Russians kill you!"
-
No, there isn't. You'll have to wait until we have the 1000's of relevant English Russian accented sound files needed... which may take a long time.
You get used to the Russian anyway, you start to understand what they're saying.
-
At first I was a bit miffed by the news that Russians would not have English voice files, but the shout cast has me convinced that even if new voices are not added it will not effect the quality of the gameplay in a negative manner. It is actually quite cool.
-
I could easily help out with making sounds for the russians if you just give me a "script" and a bit of time. Then all the russians will be talking about the mighty T-34, the PPSh and swear a bit (like the brits).
-
I imagine it would be rough trying them for the first time, not knowing if your units are built because the "Im built" chat in russian might be the "You're not under attack" chat. But i suppose we'll get used to it like anything else, eithor way American units speaking in Russian is a thousand times better than no talking at all.

Mindless swearing win. Although it would be weird to hear a Ingenery squad say "C'mon you f****ng w****rs" in Russian all the time.

Here's the reason why we don't have our own speech files (quote of mine from translation forums)
Currently the soviets contain 29107 speech files, over 2256 folders. With a total size of 410782358 bytes (391 mb).

I can get you French AND english Russian accented
sound files done in 2-3 days top! :)
Serious, too! :)
