Title: Heavy Mortar Undersized
Post by: bioshock on January 28, 2010, 10:20:10 PM
As far as i know soviet heavy mortar during ww2 have barrel lenghts around 1.80 meters, maybe too heavy for being carried on hands?? And yep shells were 12 times heavier than american mortar shells (16kg each) so time must have less movility, rate of fire, moving speed, etc... And yes it weights 280kg ( the M2 weaights around 19kg).

Yea, BIG time... if it has this kind of firepower, it ought to
be harder to pack/unpack, carry. Shouldn't even be mobile
 without a truck, actually.

But let's say it's men-carried... it ought to be WAY slower
to pack/unpack. And upgrade shouldn't make it faster to
 pack/unpack.

yup I have read that it was imposible to move across rough terrain because it actually had to be wheeled.

Actually guys, this mortar is very easy to handle with its wheeled device. It could be moved only with 2 crew, and with full crew of 5 - even on rough terrain, in swamps and forests.

And about pack/unpack time: Actually, it is only 30 seconds.

P.S. I did not "heard" about it. I served in artillery, and many of my friends were mortarmen. On field fireranges we usually lived showlder to showlder, and I am very familiar with mortar warfare :)

But in the game it don't have wheels. So it must be stationary like British mortar.

.  Stationary would be interest. It needs to be unpack into an british motar buncker before can fire. But should have that much hit points like Brit bunker. Don't know if that's possible . Can make it deployable only once in the game . Meaning people will consider more carefully before employing it.

Aye it should at least have a longer packing time for now, the vannilla mortars take what? 5 seconds if that? make it 15-30 seconds, then I would not care about the modeling so much. Also the Germans made a copy just like it, the Ostheer should get one.

Nebelewerfer have wheels. It is not possible to change them to look and shoot like the heavy mortar...using just their wheels and and movement animation ?

ahh eureka the nebelwerfer was definably heavier than the mortar and relic did not seem to have problem with it. This mod is just to add balanced factions right? Why not BS the realism like them as well!!(slight sarcasm)

btw, great ideas you guys had  ;D
love the idea of static emplacement, because those mortars make me sick when I see them  ;D

I have a suggestion:

ML-20 152mm fireposition could be changed to PM-38 120mm fireposition.

And if movable mortar is needed, BM-37 82mm could replace heavy mortar in Support Building.

At the very least I think it needs a heavier firing sound. Right now the "thwoop... BAAANG" doesn't really match up.  :P

Maybe something like the Grayhound's firing sound.

Churchill AVRE fireing sound.  :o
Anyway, COH sounds are important. You can hear T-34 miles away. Mortars shouldnt be loud.
