We all know there arent as many people as there were.(not me, I started playing in late feburay). But when I ask people "wanna play ef" and more then half the people say "what the **** is easternfront?!" And the 7 people I asked that did have it said "Its unfair, unreal, and mostly unfun" or "waaaay to buged". I dont know if the people can do this but in the devs put it on the relic news or on websites, news, forums, or even in like mouths or so put the soveits in the game, we can get lots of people. :)
But why are you listening to me, and just one of the many "fans" that says way to much and annoying to devs

Also all you people who put ostbeer plans and crap, more then likey the dev are not even going to have the time it see it.

Sorry but i cant understand u?
What do want to tell us?

It kinda sounds to me like he's saying to try to actively spread the word about Eastern Front, albeit while slaughtering the english language in the process.
Honestly I always try to get people interested in EF, but it seems like I first have to explain to them what modding is. It really does scare me sometimes, how much this generation is ready to cast aside user made content and instead shelve out ludicrous amounts of cash for official DLC. People are all like "oh, russians, sounds cool", but the moment I say it's not officially by Relic and is free they're all like "OMG ITZ NOT OFFICIAL IT OBVEUSLY SUX FREE STUF ALWAYZ SUX!!11"
Or they feed me some bullcrap about not being able to figure out how to install mods.
DOWNLOADFILE, RUN, NEXTNEXTNEXTNEXTNEXTNEXTOKNEXTNEXT INSTALLSHORTCUT FINISH.
Oh yes, it's rocket science.

yelling at people wont help ;) I mean Ive got some experience with idiots and people who wont download EF. you can't yell at them
-
Yes, am saying, somehow, spread the word. And cant you talk to relic or something? Am sure they would do something about the mod.
-
We had an overwhelming amount of publicity late January. We were featured on Relic's website, number one on ModDB in the face of the Mod of the Year competition (lots of traffic), and a large number of smaller IGN wannabes featured articles about us. The public conscience is quite low right now, but we have some further updates on the way to 'remind' older players and invite new ones to play Eastern Front.

Its a mod. (one of the best EVER) Devs dont get paid for anything, still they maintain the game, create patches, etc.
The thruth is that EF adds more to the game than ToV.
-
Make no mistake, we've had more publicity than any coh mod could have hoped for and that is why we've had so many downloads. The content of EF is unprecedented and unmatched compared to any other coh mod.
However, the resulting gaming experience did not satisfy the very large majority of people and I for one accept this and understand the reasons behind it.

I think the main stumbling block to the mods success was that incredibly unbalanced initial release. It seems like everyone in chat still thinks the Soviets are OPd, and when I inquire they say they haven't played since version 1.0
Somehow we need to draw the crowd back in through some new content so they can play and experience the improved balance.
Honestly I don't really care about it, but I think the other problem is the lack of stats support. Everyone in COH is absolutely nuts over the horrible stats system, they think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Now we can have the game provide us with a magical number that says how good you supposedly are, yay. Bulls*** I say, stats fail to take many factors of gameplay into account. Wins and losses are only a small part of the picture of RTS's, it doesn't account for teammates leaving, doesn't account for how well you manage your units, or any of that stuff.
By the way, not to pressure or anything, but you guys did say in your april fools update that REAL news was on the way...
Any rough estimation of when we can expect the news? ;D
-
Yea, you got people to download the mod in Januray. Thats the prob. You might have got it in great mod world or in relics website, but people still think the russians are overpowered. You need to say to the people "Its better then version 1,2,3 !!!!!!". Thats when the money will come out for the devs, the people will have fun, eastern front will be alive.
Am thinking of a way to get people to join the game, more information soon.
-
Yeah, one thing I can tell about people that say Russians were OP to the point of quitting is that they give up easily, and besides if you can't beat em, join'em.I can't even get Worldbuilder to work easily with me and yet you made an entire faction in the game, you guys really deserve more credit.
-
I wouldn't entirely blame the players though Akalonor. I am an extremely seasoned Wehrmacht veteran, been playing the army almost exclusively since August 06 when COH was still in beta, and I lost 9 out of 10 matches against the soviets in version 1.0. The IS2 was quite literally unstoppable back then, especially when they just rolled into your base and turned on Dig In.
The biggest thing that fixed the balance was the price increase and removal of digging in for IS2s. Once that was done, the Soviets were more or less on par with the rest of the armies in COH.
-
And tell me, there were other COH mods?
-
Just a couple of other released CoH mods to compare (you should really try some out, they are very fun):
Battle of the Bulge
Europe in Ruins
Normandy 44
Afrika Korps
Blitzkrieg
KMod
ZombieMod
Cross of Iron
The fact that you haven't heard of them but you know about Eastern Front is probably a good indication of how good our 'telling people' is. Around 150,000 downloads doesnt come out of nowhere ;)

I also recommend Operation Market Garden, it is like EIR but a little more "newbie" friendly, in other words you join it and there aint 50 vet 3 KTs running around

I tried Kmod, but after downloading the autoinstaller it wouldnt run, same thing happened with NHC :? It looked pretty cool, but I'll just make due with Blitzzkreig

BOTB was the only other mod besides EF that I ever bothered with. I typically dont try mini mods that just reskin a few things or tweak a few values. I mainly am into stuff like total conversions, that completely revamp or significantly add to gameplay.
I'd love to see a REAL mod about north africa instead of some half-assed mod that reskins a few units, adds 3 or 4 new maps, and calls itself a mod.
Eastern Front is a mod that has the right idea. New sounds for units (even if the voices are placeholder russian COH stock sounds), new types of units with entirely new models instead of mere reskins of existing models, and a myriad of new maps that fit the setting.
Outside of Battle of the Bulge, I haven't seen enough of that going on with the other COH mods.
It's just a damn pity what's happened to Battle of the Bulge. When the Tales of Valor patch hit, almost all the mods were rendered inoperable for a while. Most of them patched up immediately to get working again, but BotB wasn't among them. It languished for roughly a year before someone finally decided to get it working again. Unfortunately by that time everyone had pretty much forgotten about it.
I always hate seeing good mods die for no good reason.
-
If you download load one of these mods, how do you play it? Is it installed in COH? Dose it affacted mutiplayer?
-
I can't speak for the rest of the mods, but Battle of the Bulge is just like Eastern Front, has it's own startup completely seperate from the main game.
-
most mods are a separate start up, I haven't found one that aint....
-
yeah BK even has a auto installer like EF. Many others do but I cant get the blasted things to work properly :'(

I agree with the posts that the initial experiance may have overwhelmed most. This is why I want to start a petition to have "EASY AI's" Manpower and Fuel delayed in some way.
I think it will give Ppl who don't have every weekend to play (or just generally new) a fighting chance or to have fun with the MOD. Leave HARD and EXPERT AI alone as it is, but EASY AI should be more of a fish in the barrel.
whadda say???
-
yeah, Easy AI should be easy, just a practice dummy.
