Swear to god, I even have recordings, I've been playing Wehr VS Americans and Americans paired with Soviets...
Sometimes when the Americans come under suppression to my merciless MG42s(8 in total, 4 mounted, 4 MG teams inside the bunker) and the Mortar squads, I hear them say all of their dialogs because they come under so much fire.
Swear to God, one of them shouted:
"CRICKETS ARE FIRING ON US!"
Another:
"GET DOWN, SMALL ARMS FIRE! INCOMING CRICKETS!"
Is there like a secret German unit called the Cricket that passes disease or something? ??? Why would american troops just shout CRICKETS! OMG CRICKETS!
Am I hearing things or Has anyone else heard this?
-
You'll find they're shouting 'Krauts', not 'Crickets' :P
-
I can defiantly hear the difference between the two. I've never heard this before, but I've nearly ALWAYS heard Krauts.
-
perhaps they are saying crickets because they are taking small arms fire, and it sounds like crickets to them. Have you ever lived in a cricket infested area? it does sound kinda loud.
-
I've never heard crickets, they're definitely saying Krauts.
-
I've played it back a few times. They say Krauts about 2 minutes BEFORE this happens. I've turned off fog of war and listened in. They say Crickets. It's bugging the shit out of me. I might just have to play another game.
-
did you even bother to read what I said?!?
"perhaps they are saying crickets because they are taking small arms fire, and it sounds like crickets to them. Have you ever lived in a cricket infested area? it does sound kinda loud."

Hmm...
I just played a game with the SFX turned down (so I could only here speech) and, I actually did hear one of them shout 'They've got crickets!'...
Crickets could possibly be a nickname for a gun, but they say it very rarely so I can't point out what gun it might be. I've had a look around the vastness of the internet and the only reference to Cricket or Crickets in WW2 is what the Brits used to call the No.15 Hand Grenade 'Cricket Ball'
Other than that, i'm pretty confused myself.
-
Were the allied men suppressed?
I mean, in my games they normally had 8 MG42's firing on them. Not including the constant mortar and Nebelweffer barrages.

Defiantly did Ford, didn't want to post merge ;)
I doubt it though. It's weird, it only happens when I have them under heavy suppression.
-
There was too much going on when they said it, they weren't suppressed... they were chasing down a Nebel, being shot at by a Puma, Flame Pio's, MP40 Volks an AT gun and its crew... no MG's though, unless you count the MG on the Puma. Nebelwerfers sort of sound like Crickets when they're firing, but that doesn't explain why they also said it when I was fighting PE as well.
-
Very strange.
It happened AGAIN, this time only once this game.
I was about done with the whole match and going to finish the player off.
2 Panzers, Vet 3
2 Halftracks, Vet 3. Each had 2 Vet 3 Grenadiers. 2 squads had MG42s, 2 had Panzershrecks.
The Panzers and Halftracks opened fire on 2 riflemen and one of them shouted THEY'VE GOT CRICKETS!
Will someone PLEASE help us find out WTF THEY MEAN!
-
Can you post replay? I would really like to find out where that "crickets" came from :P
-
I don't have many recordings, I'll post a recording with a GOOD audio feed of the speech.
How would I go about doing that? XD
Never really messed with replays
-
I would record something with Fraps, it'll be much easier to edit
-
I'll see what I can do.
If Burro is willing, he is welcome to do it too.
-
I watched over my replay again all the way through, they didn't say it once! ::)
This may be a long process of recording at exactly the right moment, I'll keep trying to catch it.
-
I did mine too! Turned off all sound except for Allies and then switched to American, Not once! (Although I had an occasion where it SOUNDED like it. Most likely they said it, but at the same time there were about 6 different chants, so I couldn't tell.)
-
There's also another way (longer, completely around and uphill against the wind as my teacher says :P) - download SMFPlay and check every speech one by one.
-
I heard it on a GR Shoutcast, I can point you to the exact Cast and Time it happens ;D

At 13:46 they audibly say 'They've got crickets'...
-
Good, I was having trouble finding a clip. PROOF THAT CRICKETS KILL!
-
lol
I like when at the end he said "When the American play goes inf, its not a good idea to be Tank Destoryer."
-
Must be hillbilly boys who live in Apalachian swamp lands and got swarmed by crickets and gunfire so much when they joined the war it brought back memories and they had a freakout moment?
Although I've heard crickets and they don't sound like an MG-42's buzz.
-
I've never heard crickets, they're definitely saying Krauts.
You've never heard a cricket ? Crickets are annoying as hell and damn near impossible to kill, your lucky you've never had one stuck in an air vent (imagine, trying to get some sleep and suddenly *Cricket* *Cricket* over and over again broadcasted over the entire area from the Air vents!Where they can only be heard ,not seen or touched. O.o)
wait , your talking about them saying cricket aren't you....
sorry heh
-
There not impossible to kill, I steped on one yesterday!
-
your going to be spammed with MG42 armed crickets soon.
KARMA.
And, I've fired both a MG34 and MG42, they don't sound like Crickets v-v. Dunno bout the 'Screamin' Mimmi's', Never heard 'em.
-
There not impossible to kill, I steped on one yesterday!
They are impossible to kill when they're in the fricken air vents!
-
petrol 'n a lighter, my friend, petrol 'n a lighter.
-
but that what set the house on fire......
-
fire department, my friend, fire department.
-
Doubt that's a good idea, unless you can pay for the damage and avoid being a laughing stock for trying to burn crickets out of an air vent.
-
Mabey there refareing to panzerserecks, and how they sound like crickets?
-
Panzerschrecks sound like "Pffft....BAM", No?

-
Mabey its slung for something?
-
My only thinking was that maybe they were referring to the littler clicker American paratroopers used to communicate in the dark. Maybe Relic added this in for the US Airborne (maybe for the second mission in the campaign) and somehow it accidentally wound up in the dialogs for normal Rifleman too?
-
Aye, honestly? I think it was just a mistake that Relic made and they never bothered to fix it. Removing the sound wouldn't hurt, no?
-
Its not that big of an deal, lets not make a mistake.
