Hi All,
So, I suggest an Eastern Front Tournament!
Now, as this is EF, and we currently have low-ish numbers of players, I further suggest we do things a leeeeetle bit differently.
Suggestions:
- The tournament is played out between two "Factions" - ie Krauts v. Ruskies.
- You pick your faction and play with them to the end.
- We play each EF battle map in chronological order as they in history, ie starting with (I think) Minsk and ending with Berlin!
- Each "Faction" puts forwards ppl to play each map, with no one player allowed to play more than 2 maps in a row.
- The winner is the faction with the most points at the end
These are ideas; feel free to expand, change or suggest alternatives.
Current Map list, in (estimated) chronological order:
1941
Minsk
Smolensk
Kiev
Kharkov
Moscow
Orel
Leningrad
1942
Kholm
Zhytomyr
Sevastopol
1943
Kursk
Prokhorovka
Stalingrad
1944
Tannenberg
Konigsberg
1945
Vienna
Prague
Cottbus
Seelow
Halbe
Berlin

Good idea, keep your eyes open for a possible tournament ;)
-
Good idea Headlock.
There are, IIRC, 15 EF maps - that means we'll need 16 players (8 for each team) at the minimum. With that said - I'd be willing to play for the Soviet side.
The maps are:
Minsk
Moscow
Leningrad
Smolensk
Kiev
Stalingrad
Kharkov
Orel
Sevastopol
Kursk
Prokhorovka
Seelow
Halbe
Konigsberg
Berlin
-
I'll be waiting for that :P. I would be playing on the Axis side, for the Fatherland!!!! ;D.

Missing a couple. Off the top of my head (may be more):
-Zhytomyr
-Cottbus
-Vienna
-Kholm
-Tannenberg
-Prague
BTW, love the idea Headlock. I like the whole team team/faction with chronological maps. Let's see who really wins the war! :P

Whow Tourney eh? Cant wait it. Wonder what will it be like? 1 vs. 1? 2 vs. 2? 3 vs. 3? 4 vs. 4? but it need some specific requirement like cpu systems or else lag like crazy
- Imperial Kaskins CPu i7 2.67Ghz , VG 5850 ATi, 3 GB kingston DDr3 + 8Gb Kingston ex-thumbdrive as readyspeed boots, and motherboard perhaps = all of this is good, By when face with a low end cpu like Pentium 4. LAGGING man he lags i also lag better do not play.
So lets try play with same almost same specs? Like i7 processors 2.67 Ghz with any i7 ? or nearly same vidoe card that supports directX10 if. Like 4840 and 5840 will be lagging very little.
-
I think we'll probably start with a 2v2 tourney which I think more popular...then go 1v1.
-
I agree, Zerstörer
-
I'd rather see a 1v1 tourney first, easier to organize = valueable experience when going to the harder one.
-
I'm currently gravitating towards a 2v2, to maximise exposure.
We could then cycle through each member of each faction fairly rapidly.
Also, when this is over, maybe you Devs could make a little badge we could add to our profiles here? :D or to our signatures! Fuck yeah!

No problem

Is the tourny going to be held in the current 1.10 patch...?
-
Is the tourny going to be held in the current 1.10 patch...?
I think it'll be held after the hotfix :).
-
I'd be keen for 1v1 games since that is what I play competitively.
-
I say 2v2 at the least, 1v1 games make me nervous, lol
-
I think the mix of 1v1 and 2v2 would satisfy both sides, and I think it makes the selection of who's playing according to the faction a bit more strategic.
-
I prefer 3v3 and 4v4 games, maybe even 2v2 :)
-
I'm thinking that this tourny should be hard, fast and dramatic.
The aim here is to "showcase" EF, and have a blast at the same time.
Thus Id suggest avoiding 1v1s, and instead go for 2v2+, because EF is a thing of beauty when literally hordes of ruskies come pouring over the hill at you!
So, rather than a strict win/lose situation, think of this tourney more as fun event, with no prize other than helping EF get noticed and the kudos from your faction winning.
I'll start pulling something together soon; keep the comments/ideas flowing!

I suggest 1v1s, and then a system like GameReplay's:
Each side will play each faction AT LEAST once. The goal is to win 2 out of 3 games against your opponent. The System works like this:
In the first match, the player who starts with the Soviets or Wehrmacht will be chosen at random. The other player will get the Faction the 1st player DOES NOT get.
I.E: 1st player gets Soviets, so the 2nd Player gets Wehrmacht.
At the end of that round, the sides flip. The 1st player gets the faction the 2nd player had last round.
I.E:
1st Round:
-Player 1-Soviets
-Player 2-Wehrmacht
2nd Round
-Player 1-Wehrmacht
-Player 2-Soviets.
In the event of a tie, the player who won the first game gets to choose his or her faction of choice.
The winner of 2/3 games will move on to the next seed.
Common Scenarios:
Example 1:
Player1=Cranialwizard
Player2=Soviets1234(Made that name up, if it's anyone's name, sorry)
Round 1
Computerized Random Selection Chose Player 1 to take Wehrmacht first.
Player 1=Wehrmacht
Player 2=Soviets
Player 2 wins Round 1.
Round 2
Player 1=Soviets
Player 2=Wehrmacht
Player 1 wins 2nd Round.
Tiebreaker Round 3
Because Player 2 won Round 1, he gets to pick the faction of his choice.
Player 2 chooses Wehrmacht.
Player 1=Soviets
Player 2=Wehrmacht
Player 1 wins Round 3.
Results:
Player 1: ||
Player 2: |
Player 1 Wins!He will move on to the next seed.
Example 2
Player 1:Cranialwizard
Player 2:Wehrmacht984251325(Again, made up)
Round 1
Computerized Randomizing selects Player 1 with Wehrmacht.
Player 1:Wehrmacht
Player 2:Soviets
Player 1 wins round 1.
Round 2
Switching Sides...
Player 1:Soviets
Player 2:Wehrmacht
Player 1 wins Round 2.
Results:
Player 1:||
Player 2:
Player 1 Wins! He will move on to the next seed.
-
In the event of a tie, the player who won the first game gets to choose his or her faction of choice.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but GR is (at least used to) using the one that won with most VPs left gets to decide. Also that is a lot more fair, then it being the winner of the first match that always will have the advantage.
-
Then after the battle, will there be a board to show in this forum that who is no.1 for this week?
Or the battle is daily?
Best tourney played on friday and Saturday
I am in Malaysia is Saturday, then USA will be Friday. we are 1 day faster.
After the player win by defeating every opponent he will be the no.1 player. Adding a winners board here and maybe the hall of shame.
The winner of the Eastern Front 1 vs 1

Hate playing wehrmacht. >:(
I know that theire the more important of 2 german fractions but I just hate to micro the cheapest units in game (pios), I hate ninja paks, I hate MGs that need 3secs to get out of a house that is flamed, I hate that 1 shreck vet 3 grens (3 rifles) are better than 5 man Tommy squad.
Round 1
Computerized Random Selection Chose Player 1 to take Wehrmacht first.
Player 1=Wehrmacht
Player 2=Soviets
Player 2 wins Round 1.
Round 2
Player 1=Soviets
Player 2=Wehrmacht
Player 1 wins 2nd Round.
Tiebreaker Round 3
How about making 3rd round Soviet vs PE?
Ill also add that I want a 1v1 tournament.
-
Yeah what did happen to PE???
-
Who in their right mind actually wants to use the PE for competitive play? As of this patch, PE is an excuse of a faction.
-
oh i beg to differ.
I play PE all the time- theyre tough to master, certainly, but they have some pretty nasty ass units.
That mortar HT for one, and the Panther battle group for another!
Now that hotfix 1.11 is out, iLL start putting something together for a tourney.
-
Yeah, i play PE all the time too... i think my mind isn't right anymore :D
-

In CoH at the moment PE are my most successful faction.
-
PE was cut out assuming this was a vanilla tournament. As soon as you guys get to play PE there will be people complaining "Why can't I use Brits? Why can't I use USA?"
If that is NOT the case, then you can change the randomizer to select the SIDE you are on first. Then you may pick your faction (Although this kind of ruins the tourney because all you would see is PE VS American or Wehr VS Brits.)
Rizz is right, thank you for the correction. One with the most points gets to chose in a tie breaker.
-
I'd only suggest cutting out PE if Ostheer isnt out yet.
-
I would love to play a 1v1 or 2v2 tourney
I have never actually played one, so i'd like to see if i'm playing well against tourney vets :P
I also think you shouldn't exclude PE, because everybody likes to play a different style, thus different kraut factions.
BUT.. if it's a 2v2 tourney, I think you should only be able to play double wehr or double PE, because a mix would be unfair to the soviet players imo.
-
One question, If there is a tourney there must be a host to observe them and banned anyone who tries to play cheats or using illegal program. Well i nvm online before in CoH just offline with friends.
But it is totally a waste of time to watch it as host...
And perhaps the time and date would nice if some place it.
What time is this forum following? Which country?
-
Well the time would pretty much be dictated by when a referee is available.
Or, we could go with an "Honour" system, where there is no referee but the replays of a game are submitted by each player individually for review.
This could then allow times to be sorted to suit the players themselves.
-
Any news about the tournament ?
Is it a "go" ?
-
If a date and other details are not given soon people might stop caring.
-
Replays? I dont get it? U meant the game record while we are playing? Like Axis And Allies? ( Atari ) While playing they recording and can watch it later?
Date is best pick on Friday and saturday. Well, Is school holiday for me ^^ Yeah !
So no 1 discuss about the prize? <<<<, ( Maybe later )
So 2 vs 2 is best place in Team, Example ImperialKaskins and Matchbox Team name "Hybrid". VS team name "C me i sure win". Right?

Double PE would be unfair to the PE players, and how is a mix of the two axis unfair to Soviets? That makes no sense.
I would like to see a 2v2 tourney to showcase some massive Eastern Front battles since it's only for fun. In a competitive tourney though, I would like it to be a 1v1.
-
I personally think we should rait for the Ostheer, and have SovietVOstheer Games.

In my experiences a combo team has always been better then a PE or wehr only team.. either you as axis or against axis. that's my opinion. But i don't care so much, it's just a thought, and again, i've never played in tourneys so there's a big chance i'm just an wrong when it comes to 2v2 matches.. :P
-
The combo team is not always better. Double PE is extremely weak so it's unfair to force that on them. Also, I don't see how it is "unfair" to a Soviet team to vs a combo team. Double wehr is the best combo after Brit/US so I wouldn't be worrying about wehr/PE.
-
oh allright, my fault ;) because i thaught combo teams were stronger then doubles, i thought it would be unfair to play a double soviet vs a wehr/pe duo..
now another thing, any info on a date when this is gonna happen?
-
i may be able to use the GR Tournament system for this. Everyone would have to be a GR member though.
-
Which isn't quite fair, because there also always needs to be someone to upload a replay or live feed.
Honestly, I think it would be okay if we did a system here.
-
Is it really that hard to just upload 1 replay per game? Come on mate. That said, if it's only for fun there wouldn't really be a reason to cheat anyway. Most of the semis and final games would be uploaded anyway.
-
You know actually, that's the whole reason I needed the font for the EASTERN FRONT Title.
I'm working on a EF Tourney Tree, I'll give it to the devs after completion.
It'll have it's own little artwork with a pretty picture of Soviet tanks owning Wehrmacht ones in the background.
It'll be based on a 32 player 1v1, or a 64 player 2v2 with 32 teams. I'm willing to expand it at any time.
-
Oh really, nice. This is the reason why I like this community, everyone's willing to help out.
-
So can we get some details like date and times and tournament format soon please from whoever will organise this thing.
-
Let's get some stuff goin'. I want in!
