I just want to say I've been playing with the EF mod and I love it. I read about the update and the ability for Soviet troops to retreat. If we want to stay realistic as possible, it shouldn't be in. The Soviets didn't allow retreat. You ran, you got shot down. You can read some of Stalin quotes and he even says it. And will the conscripts, I don't know how much cap they take, but it shouldn't be much. The Soviets literally had millions of conscripts. I like the way you guys did things the first time.

That's not really true. In the beginning of the war Stalin issued the no retreat order cause he thought it was the only way to slow down the German army. After Stalingrand where the line sort of stabilized the tactical retreats where made as normal like any other army. After Kursk however Hitler have the order for no retreat and you don't see that in PE/WH do you? Not even the Stormtroopers.
Why? Cause retreat is a basic game mechanics, nothing to do with history. Also in skirmishes like teh COH depicts throught the course of a single battle an army sections will retreat/regroup and attack again several times.
Finally, this is no longer debatable, the vote has been cast and it WILL be implemented in a following major patch
-
Thanks, I learned something new today ;)
-
I know the vote has been cast and there is no changing that but i think there should be a special retreat mechanism in, where certain troops like guards can retreat and so can command squads and commissars but conscrips cannot so that you can tactically withdraw your important troops and allow the expendable ones be used as cover. I know this is probably the most historically incorrect war technique but that's what i think should be included

Simple Answer: Don't make your Conscript's retreat anyway.

Is it possible to allow retreat after a certain tier?

Well that made me look like an idiot :)

So has relic helped you guys out or did you figure out the problem on your own?

The Soviets were always able to retreat - the modders just didn't implement it. Relic needs to help with the heavy weapons recrewing.

mh i think for the uppcomming retreat of the soviets it would be a better idear that only the guards and the commander can retreat. a new upgrade should be available for the stelky so after that they can also retreat. but please keep conscripts and ingenery as they are. no retreat for them. it would destroy the russian feeling.

I totally agree with that statement. Plz don´t allow all russian infantry and supply troops to retreat...that will really destroy the whole mod feeling.
Caen44.

I actually liked the idea of not retreating. It worked well combined with the global upgrades system too.
-
People voted and we've incorporated it as per the results...and it for the best.
There no point in saying anything further to this I'm afraid, what's done is done.
Iif you don't agree with it, you happen to be in the small minority that will be disappointed(though we're confident you'll still love the result eventually).

Vox populi - I didn't mind no-retreat, I learned a lot when Soviets could not retreat. Sometimes infantry just crawl away even suppressed and can continue to fight eventually - and usual practice is (and I've done it before too) to retreat when suppressed in red. Now I calculate if my men eventually manage to crawl to safety :) So in this case it improved my - sadly still quite mediocre - gaming performance.

Heh man, I think you realized that there are some players which could be marked as "Hardcore zealots of EF" who will play EF regardless what you will do with it ;)

One thing that I thought would be cool was to have it so that only the command squad may issue a retreat. For example, if you are massing a huge force and you simply send them in without a command squad, there would be no retreat option, but what if you sent in a command squad, suddenly, he could order a tactical retreat. This way, the Russians would still have that same "feel" to them, but they would also have a retreat option :D

If something like that would be implemented, I think should be otherwise, if an officer is present the squad cannot retreat, but will get an offensive bonus :P.

People will say , uh Joseph Stalin accepted retreat later in the war , and o ooh its part of the game mechanics. But why would you put retreat in this already great mod. Everyone is used to playing as the normal coh teams, they aren't willing to accept change so therefore they dislike not being able to retreat. The ef team did a great job in making a great faction unique in its own way, if people are still clinging onto what they're familiar with you could at least give retreat to guards and the command squad.
-
The reason why i liked the whole no retreat thing is because it made them easier to kill with the mg-42 ;D

Reward unit: Commissar Squad. :D

We should have a repoll saying what squads you dont want able to retreat.

Seeme speaks sense for once :P.

Perhaps he unleashed all his 'no sense' against their restless enemies on the bridge thread ;). Joking aside, Seeme has spoken sense lately :). Signs of becoming mature ;D!!

The fact that Red Army can't retreat gives them a unique feeling. Also, it makes their human waves less brutal xD
-
They soviet get back their retreat feature, end of story ;D
For those who don't agree...well get over it :)
