I copied my entire COH folder (steam version) with the EF 1.11 mod into my USB and play in internet cafe (namely Everywhere internet) as my original laptop is too bad for running it. The original COH game run perfectly well.
Now the problem is every time when I try to open EF it just show a window "unable to find the COH directory". I tried to change the directory path into my USB's COH folder but every time when I recheck the setting, the "COH directory" section become empty. I simply can't open the game. What should I do?
Sorry for the poor English

Right click your Shortcut to RelicCoH.exe (Company of Heroes) and at the end add "-dev -mod Eastern_Front" (without ")

I've purchased my copy of CoH from Steam, it looks like this when I open the properties,
(http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j160/piercedlip898/Untitled.jpg)
My copy isn't on a USB drive either, but I still get the same error message.
-
Do you have that directory in EF settings->path? Could you take a look? Also check that Eastern Front files are in the same place that CoH.

You're showing me the Properties of the .exe file itself... Right click on it, select "Create Shortcut" - a file "reliccoh - shortcut" will appear. The open it's properties and do what Rizz suggested above.
-
@Rizz I'm having same problem (Unable to find CoH directory) as moknin has... When i do what you said (add "-dev -mod Eastern_Front" (without ") to end) and click on Apply an error message appears saying -make sure path and file name are same-. ??? ??? ???
-
Do you installed different versions of CoH in the same windows sesion(Steam/D2D/Retail)?
Which value has this path on regedit?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\THQ\Company of Heroes
or if you have 64bits OS?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\THQ\Company of Heroes

I had a retail version, then it got banned...i downloaded it too many times to different PC's i used,
PS, my tales of valor works though.
then i downloaded EF and had fun,
then i used steam to download OF and that's when trouble started.
If you can give me help, BTW I'm not computer savy
then a step by step guide would make all the difference in the world,
-
@FriendlyFire
I mean, do you have both(Retail and Steam) installed in this moment?
-
@blackbishop
yes,
Tales of valor, CoH "original" - Retail
OF - Steam
-
If you have those versions installed at the same "time", you won't be able to run EF properly. You should choose one version to keep.
With "have both version installed" I tried to say if you have one CoH at //Program Files/THQ/Company of Heroes and the other on steamapps, you can be sure it's a problem.
You need to uninstall both and reinstall one of them, I recomend to backup the steam copy and deploy it later because:
1) Retail version needs to be installed and patched again and steam backup is ready to play after restoring your copy.
2) If you have no internet connection due to issues, in both cases you will need the DVD.
3) Just install the Retail version if you have the file patches(offline update).
Cheers
-
So...
I have to
1-uninstall all my CoH games,
2-reinstall my Original coh, but I got banned temporarily for using this code... if I do it one more time will I ever be able to play CoH again?
3-reinstall my ToV,
4-Download EF,
5-and never play OF because its on steam.... #$%^
PS,
um..I still have the special combination code to OF, if I punch that code out on the main menu could I still play it?
-
As long as you have all your keys on the same relic account you only will need one CoH install, I have the key from the retail original CoH and Opposing Fronts and Steam ToV.
When I bought ToV, I just logged in with the same account that i used on retail CoH and that was all what I need to link the accounts, hence I don't need to install retail anymore. If you want to recover your key you should ask for it to relic support, they will help you :P.
EDIT: As far as I know your key can get banned if its transferred by a fourth time. By Transferred mean, register to a different account than yours.
-
Like this? Sorry for the delay, computer dumped on me and took 4 days to fix. Anyways, i did so and it gave me the same error message. i found something though...
I have C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\company of heroes
AND C:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes
also i though i had a THQ folder somewhere else but i cant seem to find it...

@piercedlip898, @FriendlyFire
Thank you very much guys!!!
Thank to you, really, I unistalled my Retail version and reinstalled my Steam version just to see your case...
And that error happened to me too!! :D I tested the 1.10 version on Retail and Steam but I forgot to test the 1.20 on steam :(... I'm apologize :-\...
So here have a report:
This is the Big Cheese: Perhaps steam changed it's way to store the games ID... But when trying to play over steam prompts "Unable to locate Company of Heroes directory". The bug is bad but not critical... All people that use steam CoH and have this bug don't forget to configure your EF path on the launcher.
And a minor detail:
When you use the steam version at the moment you update your game, if you haven't configured your path on the launcher, the files are installed in the "default" directory, so it's says "up to date" but if you were careless and didn't notice the path you failed to install it(You have to go to CoH directory\EF_Updates and install them again on the correct path, beware to check the path!!!). Probably this is because the installer can't find the proper path. But when installing the 1.20 full version found it.
EDIT: Ah!!! By the way, I don't know if this info can help but Steam changed the way it treated the games on the windows registry:
Before
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Company of Heroes]
"DisplayName"="Company of Heroes"
"UninstallString"="\"foo\""
"InstallLocation"="c:\\games\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\company of heroes"
"Publisher"="THQ Inc."
"DisplayVersion"="2.601.0"
"DisplayIcon"="\"c:\\games\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\company of heroes\\reliccoh.exe\""
After
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Steam App 20540]
"DisplayIcon"="c:\\games\\Steam\\steam\\games\\09cdf307082beee1f5271a5454dfe2994a937ebc.ico"
"DisplayName"="Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor"
"HelpLink"="http://support.steampowered.com/"
"InstallLocation"="c:\\games\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\company of heroes"
"Publisher"="Relic"

"URLInfoAbout"="http://www.companyofheroesgame.com/"
"NoRepair"=dword:00000001
"NoModify"=dword:00000001
Luckly, the Steam IDs for CoH games are constant :P
vCoH = 4560
OF = 9340
ToV = 20540
P.S. Don't worry, I changed the directory of the text above.
-
Well, fuck.
All of my stuff is purchased from steam, I have CoH and OF.
maybe if I uninstall and reinstall everything and pay attention to paths, maybe it'll work?
-
@piercedlip898
No... Just fix the path on the launcher settings. It should appear empty and gray :P. Click on "Select" and choose the path where its installed, I suppose "someunit:\dir\steamapps\CoH\".
-
Right click your Shortcut to RelicCoH.exe (Company of Heroes) and at the end add "-dev -mod Eastern_Front" (without ")
It works!
But Eastern Front Launcher still not working, and says always:" EF Mod does not appear to be installed on your system" So for this reason i cant update EF mod too... Any suggestions...??
Note: i tried showing locating and regedit stuff... no hope!

But Eastern Front Launcher still not working, and says always:" EF Mod does not appear to be installed on your system" So for this reason i cant update EF mod too... Any suggestions...??

Steps:
1)Open EF Launcher
2)Click OK on Error Message
3)Click on Settings Menu
4)Change the current path of CoH to the correct one. Currently you should have nothing, just a grey text box.
5)After chosing the correct path, you can now play from the launcher. Of course, perhaps you'll need to update your EF. If you updated EF before solving this error, most probably won't be able to update by the launcher, if not you should click on the "Check for Updates" button.
If you updated EF before solving this error, you should follow these steps:
1)Go to CoH folder, then to EF_Updates or something like that, you will recognize the correct folder because it stores the patches you download.
2)Execute each update in their respective order(Updates from 1.21 or above).
3)You are ready to play the lattest version of EF.
I hope this helps :P.
-
Hi,
Actually i changed the path before, as you say above. When i clicked "OK" button after changing the path, it give the same error again. And when i checked the settings once more, the path part remains blank...
So choosing the path by launcher don't work for me. Still i can't update it and play vs launcher... As i said, i can only play the game by editing the shourcut of Relic.exe as "-dev -mod Eastern_Front"
Any suggestions?
Note: I did what you say in your above reply, nothing changes again...

@kurtb
Do you have steam CoH?
-
Open Regedit (Windows Key + R -> Enter regedit).

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Eastern Front

Does it exists? What's the info inside it?

You could try to manually apply 1.2.1.0, might fix it since it readds all keys.

I have the same problem as well. Eastern Front mod can't find COH directory. I am running a 64 bit Windows. I have the latest patch to CoH: TV. I installed 1.2.0.0. EF and I manually downloaded and installed all patches to 1.2.3.2.
My CoH directory was C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\CoH\, I got this error and checked the forums, and I deleted it and reinstalled to C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes, but I still get the same error.
I started thinking maybe EF doesnt run on 64bit? Any ideas?

In either case, could you post a screenshot of your CoH Directory?
Also open regedit (start menu->run->regedit) and search for these 2 keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{97AFD0D8-5720-4A59-BFDC-CB92A36FADF9}_is1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Company of Heroes
Export them(right click over the folder->Export), and paste them here, change the extension from reg to txt if necessary or you can just paste the strings here.

Yeah pal, you did right...
Here is the problem
Here is the Company of Heroes Folder:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Company of Heroes]
"DisplayName"="Company of Heroes"
"UninstallString"="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\THQ\\Company of Heroes\\Uninstall_English.exe\""

"Publisher"="THQ Inc."

Change
"InstallLocation"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\THQ\\Company of Heroes\\Eastern_Front"
to
"InstallLocation"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\THQ\\Company of Heroes"
And remember to put the correct path on the EF Launcher->CoH Directory after changing the line above.
The correct path would be:
"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\THQ\\Company of Heroes"
-
I changed the registry install location as you said, new registry is like this:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Company of Heroes]
"DisplayName"="Company of Heroes"
"UninstallString"="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\THQ\\Company of Heroes\\Uninstall_English.exe\""
"InstallLocation"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\THQ\\Company of Heroes"
"Publisher"="THQ Inc."
"DisplayVersion"="2.601.0"
"DisplayIcon"="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\THQ\\Company of Heroes\\Uninstall_English.exe\""
I changed the location in the settings:
http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/9379/56607852.png (http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/9379/56607852.png)
I click on CoH and click ok but I keep getting the same error
-
Eastern Front should be installed on CoH root directory, in the same folder than RelicCoH.exe or Wordlbuilder is located; not at any selfcreated folder.
In other words, you installed incorrectly Eastern Front. Unless RelicCoH.exe and cia. are inside "CoH".
-
I just reinstalled Eastern Front into the Company of Heroes folder, in the same place with RelicCoH.exe and worldbuilder, updated and showed the correct location on Eastern front Launcher, still the same error. I tried showing Company of Heroes folder and the CoH folder to the launcher but still the same error
-
Did you check that the registry key didn't changed back?
Also, could you post an screenshot of you CoH Directory?
EDIT: Also check that the shorcut points to the right launcher, because if you just reinstalled EF, it has a chance that that it is running the "old" one.
I mean check that the path of the launcher you're running is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\EF_Launcher.exe"
and the path in the launcher settings should be:
C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes
-
Hmm just noticed something strange: I had changed my registry entry of Install directory to C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes but it reverts itself everytime I start EF to C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\CoH
I check again after I change it and quit and it seems fine but everytime I run EF it keeps adding CoH to the end.
Unable to located Company of Heroes directory.
Here is my CoH folder: http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2926/37956984.png (http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2926/37956984.png)
-
Start EF on "C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\" not in "C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\CoH".
Looks like EF_Launcher has that bug if it's opened in the wrong path. And remember to delete CoH folder.
-
Ok, I deleted the CoH folder, uninstalled and reinstalled EF into Company of Heroes folder (where RelicCoH.exe is) I start EF from the launcher there, I tried showing every folder into the settings place, but I still get the same error. It doesnt seem like anyone else gets this problem something must be awfully wrong with my PC ???
-
What's the path that the launcher recognizes as CoH directory?
Did you checked after uninstalling EF the registry had the correct path?
Did you check if EF was installed on C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\ and not on C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\Eastern Front?
Well, I suggest to:
1) Uninstall EF and check that the EF files & folders were wiped out. If there are survivors kill them.
2) Check the coh path in the registry and fix it if necessary.
3) Install EF, and check that the path the installer shows be "C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\". In your case this is the path where it should be installed.
4) Run the game. You shouldn't have any problem at this point, just update with the launcher; if you cannot find any patch you can download them from this site (http://www.files.easternfront.org/updates/)(patches 1.2.1.0 to 1.2.3.2).
-
Ok,
1) Uninstalled EF, deleted all remaining EF files.
At this point the Registry shows: C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes
2) Installed EF to: C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes
3) Started launcher at: C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes
Eastern Front Doesnt appear to be installed on your system.
4) From settings, I tried to show the correct path but the message is:
Unable to locate Company of Heroes directory.
Then I Uninstalled EF, deleted all remaining EF files again,
Updated to (1.2.3.2) manually, all updates installed to: C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\
Still Eastern Front Mode doesnt appear to be installed on your system :'(
ToV works just fine but its boring after such a long time, I am very excited about this mod but unfortunately it seems hopeless for me

Do you installed EF with admin rights?
Are you sure that you updated the game? because the version says "1.2.0.0".
Well, as our work seems to be futile, there's one last thing you can do.
Create a shorcut with this as target:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\RelicCoh.exe" -dev -mod Eastern_Front -nomovies
I don't remember what is the disable vsync and triple buffer command if you want to add them and I'm not at home so I hope that one user that knows the answer post it here or I'll post it some time later, like 6 hours later.
-
It appeared 1.2.0.0 becouse I typed in the wrong order in my previous post.
I just tried reinstalling all as admin, no luck. But the shortcut you have me worked! Unfortunately all texts and menu icons were corrupt :-X

Could you check the MD5 of your installer?
EF 1.20 Installer MD5 = 9AF7A662DCED463B051FE22539F851E0
You can get it with HashTab (http://beeblebrox.org/).
Btw what language your CoH has?
-
My CoH is in english. Ok checked the hashes for my EF installer 1.2.0. :
MD5 = 7114F2D4C87016F49BAD8F2B37473795
-
7114F2D4C87016F49BAD8F2B37473795?
Could you post the link where you downloaded your version or was from ModDB?
-
You mean the setup file? I am afraid I dont remember where, but I did googled CoH Eastern Front and downloaded it from one the first sites that came up. Do you think the installer I got is corrupt somehow?
-
Try downloading it from here (http://www.moddb.com/mods/coheastern-front/downloads/eastern-front-120-full1).
-
I did download the file from the link you gave and reinstalled from it. I did get the hash from the the file I downloaded first: http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/6950/15795395. (http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/6950/15795395.)
Registry is good. Installed in the correct folder. Ran as admin. Still no use, I get the same errors.
Edit: Just tried playing CoH: ToV and all the text of the original CoH is corrupted aswell. Dont know whats messed up now but I guess I'm gonna have to reinstall that aswell... meh
-
That's exactly what i was going to ask you... could you post and screenshot to show your corrupted CoH?
Also, do you installed any other mod, skin pack, sound files for the factions or anything that could change the CoH core files?
-
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/2702/12047385.png (http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/2702/12047385.png)
All texts except unit descriptions are corrupt like in the picture.
And no, absolutely nothing else external, no mods, no skin packs absolutely nothing but EF.
-
I think you should uninstall it, wipe the remaining files on CoH path and install & update.
Install EF and update.
Are you sure you have .NET Framework 2.0/3.0/3.5 installed?
Are you sure you have Visual C++ 2005/2008 redistributable?
-
I managed to get CoH working properly I think it was the CoH folder or one of the EF files I deleted. I resored them and it worked. I can run Eastern front properly at this point with the shortcut you gave me, I am not sure if its the patched version but it sure is an awesome mod. Thank you for all your help and sorry about the troublesome issue :)
-
No problem, by the way if you want to update EF, i guess you will because 1.20 removed bergetiger by mistake, you can download them from here:
http://www.files.easternfront.org/updates/ (http://www.files.easternfront.org/updates/)
Download & install from 1.2.1.0 to 1.2.3.2.
Enjoy EF ;D!
