Title: [EF] Seelow (6)
Post by: Porta on January 24, 2009, 08:06:02 AM
[EF] Seelow (6)

Once again, Gefreiter Porta could hear the Stalin Organs screaming overhead. His company had dwindled down to nothing more than a ragtag rabble of boys and old men, dug in across the once beautiful German countryside. Mumbling incoherently, Porta doubted he would live after this rocket strike. The Soviets had so much artillery, the air was alive with rounds. To retreat was to abandon Germany, and everything they had been fighting for. This was the Seelow Heights, this was the last stand, and Porta was going to take as many Reds with him as possible.

Map is now WiP tested.

Map looks very good. Very nice work on all the defensive works, nice details. Damn this one is going to be bloody.

- Map name is wrong on file and in maplist. come on.

Map still needs preview screen, description, and loading screen.

I checked your map - if you want to finish it you have to place a lot of splats and splines more.
This version of the map is too clean at all - it doesn't look ready.

Hi Guys

I have reworked pretty much the entire map, inculding

- added load screen and lobby maps
- Reworked all territory sectors
- Reworked all texture, splats and splines
- included defensive postions throughout the map
- removed the northern town entirely
- addedd OOB and horizon mesh
- Addedd weather and atmosphere
- General graphics tweaks
- resized map HQ positions

Still requires some mionor polishing but overall almost finished, most importantly needs balance testing, so please post comments if you get a chance.

Updated version (24/02/2009)

Good stuff, good work on the improvement. You have to change the designation a little, since we want to steamline our mapnames:

1. Call the file "6p_Seelow_Heights". Drop the The.

2. Call ingame map list name "Seelow Heights (6)".

That, and the minor polishing you wanted to do, and we are ready to go.

as in like i did for Moscow?

April 16 -19 1945 saw one of the bloodiest and desperate battles of the war, as the werchmant desperatly makes a final stand against the red army on the doorstep of Berlin, the Seelow hieghts.

AT the beginning of the battle the Russians had amassed over 2 million troops, and over 8000 atrtillery peices, a field gun for evry 4 metres! On the first day over 1 million shells were unleashed on the German positions.

The German commander, Gerneral Heinrici, a master defense tacticain predicted the artillery onsaulght and withdrew the forward line of defence just hours before the onslaught began, making the initial bomabardment ineffective..........

For the next four days a torrent of hell was unleashed onto The Seelow Heights ad the Russain war machine was unleashed into Germany.

Just needs a few minor errors fixing...

Actually I hope we are not misunderstanding each other, but you have to integrate the description and upload it again please.

Apex I don't know if you know this, but there is a very small limit on the size of map descriptions. This is so that you add string numbers (eg $49327646) rather than the full description, which links to the full description in localised string tables. Perhaps we should designate each map a string number and ask our mappers to write that instead of the description, and then include the descriptions they write on their threads in the Eastern Front string table.

lol, are you taling about the map description in the game Lobby?

TBH i have been able to figure out how to include that in the map, as the the section in the worldbiulder only lets you put in about 10 words, any one know how to do this?

What i provided above was neber meant to go in the actual map, just a little background about the battle :)

Like I just said mate, just leave it blank for now, and post your proposed description on this thread. You will have to put a certain code in that box later on, but first we need to decide what that is. We will do the rest.

Map looks good, like the description!

Oh and wartyx, south isn't necessarily down, it's just the way maps have been drawn: ("what's up, south?" map) ;D

But 'up on top' doesnt sound quite as catchy as 'down under'  ;)

So very very true...

And I thought some of the soviet barrage was effective: they raised the katyusha racks to hit the lines behind

Porta, please change your Map Name to $18010107 and your Map Description to $18010108 and also post a menu description of the map around 50-100 words long on this thread.
Title: Re: [EF] Seelow (6)
Post by: Porta on April 05, 2009, 03:12:42 AM
OK mate, will do.

Just let me clarify as im not a coder or anything.

1. You want me to open the worldiulder

2. In the Scenarios Properties Tab -  change the map description to $18010108

3. The Save as: Map Name to $18010107

is correct?

So i will have to rename all the TAGR files aswell then.

I have  version of the the map, here, without above changes. 6p Seelow Heights.sga

http://files.filefront.com/6p+Seelow+Heightssga/;13534759;/fileinfo.html

I will update the map description aswell.

Sorry, maybe I was too unclear.

You got steps 1 and 2 spot on. However, rather than saving the map as $18010107, you must change the Map Name which is in the same window as Step 2. Then save the map as 6p_Seelow_Heights

Ok heres the final version :)

http://files.filefront.com/6p+Seelow+Heightssga/;13555854;/fileinfo.html

Map description

Oberstabsgefreiter  Porta could hear the stallin organs screaming overhead, Sven cowered in their fox hole, mumbling incoherently, although he’d lived through many Katyusha rocket strikes before, he doubted he would live after this one.
It seemed Ivan had so much artillery, that the air was alive with rounds, and there was nowhere else left to retreat too. This was the Seelow Heights, this was the Wehrmacht last stand, and Porta was going to take as many reds with him as possible.

When you build a forward HQ as russians on the medium mun in front of the base (that one with the destroyed house and the big chimney and a well next to it) the reinforced soldiers are stuck in the ruins. They cant get out even if you garrison and ungarrison it.
