As far as I know there are no current plans by Relic to make Company of Heroes 2, but if was going to be made and you could decide how it would be, how would you make it?
-If Company of Heroes 2 should ever be made, how would you like it to be?
-How different would it have to be from normal CoH to make it worth buying?
-Any radical changes or just improving the current game?
-Should CoH 2 be made at all?
Just post your thoughts and ideas,I'll start :D:
CoH is about small company-sized battles, so I think they should improve how infantry is used since they are the backbone of a company. (Bigger squads, more allround-infantry)
Also minor improvements like that you can actually see infantry taking cover, so that infantry can jump over smal fences and similar objects, so that firefights are fought from greater distances and no-one fires for ten seconds at anyone in close-up without killing them, and generally bigger maps.
Also it maybe they could change the entire setting to another era. Perhaps the Vietnam war, the gulf war or the war in Afghanistan. Helicopter action anyone?
-
It's a good question. For my money it would be taking the game to another conflict. Like you suggested, Vietnam is probably the logical progression since Korea would probably be too similar to WW2 to make it sufficiently different.
It would certainly give you two completely different sides for almost two different games in the gameplay each requires.
-
Well i would actually imagine a COH 2 in Korea, cause it would be easier for Relic to design the factions ( the Americans being armed with BARs, M1 Garands, Super Bazookas, M3 and M2 Carbines (M3 with infared night scope probably), M1919 MG, etc. ) The tanks would also be pretty easy since they bassicly used Shermans, Super Pershings, Chaffes, M36s and M46 Pattons (which are tricked out Pershings). The North Koreans would be a little trickier, using mainly Soviet Weaponry, but i'm sure they would just steal from our friends on the Eastern Front. So no probs there eh.
-
I hope that in COH 2 in late game Allies will be OP like Axis are now.
US supply upgrades should be more important.
UKs oficers should be harder to kill or UK should have more (any) global upgrades.
M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, BRENs, LMG42 should have more firepower.
COH 2 should have Soviets!
-
It will be really good to see a future warfare one...
However, the cover system should remain same, or at least has similar importance (Unlike DoW 2 cover system which is very easy to be destroyed)...
The different will of course, almost all of it except the resource...
And also controllable flying unit (with enjoyable control and balance stat against another type of unit)...
It will become a plus factor if a "triple threat" type of battle is included (So not only Axis vs Allied type)...
At least, it will be very fascinating for me...
-
I think that COH2 wouldn't be about WW2. The CoH1 engine and physix are already on very, very high level. Only hope for more factions to play during WW2 are mods and expansions. No more, no less.
CoH2 should be placed in recent times. Let's say War in Iraq. Typical COH1, however infantry should be mechanized (M2 Bradleys and BMP-1s) and play main role, tanks would apperar only as heavy support. And choppers like Mi-24 or AH-64( controllable, of course). And air support (A-10). Scale of combat I would leave on COH1 level - what Relic and THQ did to DoW2 was terrible when we are talking about big and massive battles. Engine should stay the same, because COH has nice graphics and details.
-

It would be like a Piospam vs Tommies. :D

I would love it if they included a feature to assume control of a squad than switch back to the tactical position, you would assume the FP/3P Control of the captain of a squad/ tank/ vehicle and play as it until you decide to switch back to the tactical view where you could play it out normal RTS style. IMO , it would be cool to play a game like that anyway.
@Paciat, What ? The Axis aren't OP late game. If they are than the Allies could be considered OP early game :p
-
I would like to see tanks shoot from realistic ranges. Even some ww2 tanks could shoot almost a mile. Much more realistic than 50ft
-

Then we would need VERYYYYY big maps, for the longer ranges. Its all in the interest of making less sense (we can thank Relic for putting in the Bergetiger and Pershings which didn't even serve in Normandy) and what Relic calls "balance".
I would personally like to see larger expanses for infantry capabilities (new Allied infantry, more capabilities for them and more variety for Axis squads, more control over individual members of support squads particularly snipers), more customizability (more variable upgrades) for Axis and Allied Tanks, and more customization for units all together (you can choose the patches and symbols, their initial load-outs, camo style, and other such aesthetic things so one guys units don't look like the others).
Its a common feature in many games to make your troops look different from others and they started doing it in FPS's even (Modern Warfare 2) and not too hard to do.
-
They should do so that you won't have to capture a flag to take an area, but just be more people there than the enemy.
I think there is a mod that makes it so, can't remember the name.
-
More emphasis on melee or atonement for the lack thereof. Especially if they add the Japanese who relied heavily on surprise charges.
Improved pathing to where infantry don't get clustered in alleys etc. Lastly they should release some beastly worldbuilder/sdk with it.
-
i iwould make it in the pacific.
How do you do island warfare? simple, pick a big island for the setting. New Guinea would be my pick. Its a big island and a lot of the fighting was on land. New guinea is bigger than Normandy so there should be plenty of maps to create.
you could also pick Guadalcannal. Its not that big of an island, but it was a long battle.
Okinawa would be good too.
Or you could just set it in the Philippines.
there are plenty of places to pick from that arent sea battles.
the allies could be: marines, Australians, and British
the axis: Japan

3v1 ??? >:(
There is already a mod in the Pacific so that is unlikely.
I agree with most saying that it would be good to have more infantry controls and variaty.
(to Comrade2012 )- Here look at this game , from what I can tell you might like it . http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/blitzkrieg/index.html (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/blitzkrieg/index.html)

well. think about what coh is like now, Americans, British Russians vs germans. 3 vs 1. its the same.
Within the axis their could be three different Japanese armies. just like the germans are now Wehrmacht, PE, and Ostheer. I dont know what the Japanese armies would be called, but im sure somebody else could figure that out.
-
Well there would probably be Japan's Marines and the main Army. Thats the only two factions i can think of (on land at least) They would have a lot of Airborne support, especially from Bettys and Zeroes, and a lot of off-map Naval arty. There could also be paratrooper support that are armed with Type 100s (so good against infantry) and (since most of these maps have water on them) a Marine water landing, kinda like in "Axis and Allies" campaigns.

There is a topic about the Japanese.
Its hard to make a balanced fraction that has shitty tanks, AT equipment, smallarms...
Whole maps would have to be inside Mountains and japanese would loose the game every timea Crock would apear. ;D
Even Italians had better equipment that the Japanese.
-
No! coh:o shouldnt have the Soveits. That would take everyone from ef and no one would talk her.
-
a starwars coh would be great....clones vs droids(that dont care for suppresion...) and imperial might vs rebel sabouteurs
that would rock
-
there is a mod for that too (almost)... ;D
http://www.moddb.com/mods/imperial-reign (http://www.moddb.com/mods/imperial-reign)
-
amazing!!! this is killer stuff..
-
Star Wars, The universal mod... What game doesn't include a mod for them?
-
Hearts of Iron, Codename Panzers, Close Combat 1,2,3,4,5,6
Panzer Gernals,Battle for the Pacific, etc, etc
-
Let me rephrase that: What good games dont have a star wars mod?
-
well spoken
do you know the awesome CoD 4 starwars mod??
-
TacticalNuke:
Hearts of Iron is one of the best WW2 sims I've ever played. The fact that it isn't a standard Hollywood action game doesn't mean it is bad. As for the other games Seeme listed, I haven't played them enough to be able to say something about those.
Cheers
-
Ok... ok... you guys are right. The point I was trying to make though, was that if you look hard enough you can almost always find a star wars/trek mod.
-
if you look hard enough you can almost always find a star wars/trek mod.
And a zombie mod :P thats the magic 3 for every game.
StarTreck
StarWars
Zombie
-
and sometimes even Fallout mod ;D
-
Zombies... wouldn't have thought of it, but your definatly right! Nazi zombies. Who would've thought?
-
no I think the magic three is
Starwars
Zombies
Aliens
-
CoH with Aliens.... I would like to see it... :D
-
The DoWII is for you ;)
-
Actually I have DoWII, and I think, comparing to the DoW I that it's waste of money.
-
DoWII?
-
I have no idea what dawn of war is, but I think hes saying Dawn of War 2
-
Yes:
DOW I - Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War + Expansions
DOW II - Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War II + Expansion(s)
-
Ahh. That makes a little more sense then.
-
I'd actually like to expand it to not just World War 2, but also Korea and the Great War. There would be German and N. Korean campaigns, also.
Gameplay wise, keep the same formula, but make combat more logical. Melee fighting would be added. Also, soldiers would not charge the enemy and fire point blanks shots, but instead avoid them unless they have SMG's. Infantry should also interact with cover. Instead of standing behind it, they would duck behind it, take pot shots and other things. Soldiers' uniforms should be customizable. Also, infantry should be more vital to victory. As it is now, tanks are used too much at the end of the battle. Weather should also play a role, like tanks not being able to move in thick mud.
Visually, graphics should be better. Perhaps even minor things when soldiers aren't actively fighting, like writing in their journal, cleaning their equipmentand munching on rations should be seen.
-
Good thinking!

Then it would'nt be company of heroes 2 if it went back to WW1 or fast forwarded to the Korean war but I agree with the implication that there is scarce commodity of games on either WW1 or Korean war.
The last part would be a definite milestone and if they incorporated a type of morale system in with it as in soldiers not eating rations having negative effect to morale..
Then that would be something to experience also it would reprieve me from needing to constantly going back to the TW series for a good morale system. ;)
-
Well the Korean war isn't that much of a fast forward since it is part of the aftermath of WWII
-
WW2 was fought in three major threatres
1. European Threatre : early war
2. Africa Threatre : majority of the war
3. Pacific threatre : late war
Now COH 1 has covered the european threatre extensively however i'd want to cover either of the two threatres
which means inclusion of new faction
japanese or italian to the axis
Chinese to the alllied
but it all depends.....
-
May I ask where you read your history?
The fighting in the European theatre lasted for the entire war, same goes for that of the pacific theatre, or would you count 1941-1945 as "late war"?
Cheers
-
oops :o sorry dude i wrote it wrong..
yes the african was early war the pacific late war and the european majority of the war
-
1941 is when the war started in the pacific, but nothing major happened with the Americans later.
-
no I think the magic three is
Starwars
Zombies
Aliens
For EVERY game you have to have those 3,
and a 'Modern' [If it's WW2] or 'WW2' if its modern, mod.
-
1941 is when the war started in the pacific, but nothing major happened with the Americans later.
nothing major happened? it ended the war there.. a-bomb?
or did i just not understand what you meant?
And not only that, i think the bloodiest battles were fought in the pacific by the americans in the entire war.
-
Yes the americans had to pay more heavily at the pacific
how ever tht ensured it " occupies land in the pacific"
how else would a country in one part of the world would have bases i the most opposite part!!
-
And not only that, i think the bloodiest battles were fought in the pacific by the americans in the entire war.
You must mean "many of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific were fought by the Americans" ;), otherwise I'd find it hard to believe that you would've missed meat-grinders such as Stalingrad, the Final Battle of Berlin, the Normandy landings, the Falaise Pocket, the Warsaw Uprising, Operation Market Garden, and the Hurtgen Forest Campaign... :)
-

haha no no ofcourse not ;)
you're right. i should've said "many of the bloodiest battle were fought in the pacific" ;p
-
If there would be a coh 2 it would be ... Company of Heroes... Eastern front!!!!! lol ;D
-
Nope.
-
I think theyd introduce ships and naval combat.
-
Ohhh! I want to be a mapper for that ;D
-
I think theyd introduce ships and naval combat.
That would be very very small ships... like boats with MGs. Even destroyer would be too big for CoH standards.
-
Simple Solution- Make maps bigger!!!!
-
Why does everyone think that just because there is a mod with the Russians and Japanese , that relic wont make it? If you ask me the coh engine is capable of creating every front of WW2, being the Eastern front , western , African/Mediterranean and pacific. Relic is capable of this , they just ditched coh and moved onto dawn of war 2.

IMO Essence Engine 1.0 was at its limits, that's why they continued with the new one.
-
Relic is Capable of making any front really, its just that we are not waiting for Relic to Have some freetime.

How is at the limits , they have created rainforests , desserts and arctic environments in dow2 which look pretty good. If they can make that for dawn of war 2 they can definetly make 2 or 3 more expansions , or if not another game that involves all major fronts of world war 2 for company of heroes.

As you can see, DoW II didn't used the same engine than CoH.

But really its just an update of the engine coh uses.
-
That update, no matter how small was, make the difference between coh engine and dow 2 engine, and as you can see CoH:O won't use dow 2 engine, it's not the same.
It's like saying that Unreal Engine 3 is the updated version of the 2, the same applies for CoH.
-
Something like a CPU. You want to change the processor but the motherboard doesn't support it.
-
Some hearsays told that COH2 will be with Jap & Soviet army.
We shall see.
Some strange "heads", told us, that the COH2 will prodused without "BALLANCE" :) :)
We shall see, but i may suppose ... with expirience dealing weastern games ... Eastern front again will be not enough revealed.
We shall see for the WEAPON BALLANCE ... it must by HISTORICAL.
-
actually i dont think we will ever see CoH with realistic weapon damage
thats what "men of war" is for
(if you want to see how CoH fails with "realistic" weapons try the horribly missbalanced Blitzkrieg mod)
-
BK isnt imbalanced , nor is it historically accurate , don't smear other mods until you've actually tested them extensively, and given input , this is happening to EF, making you hypocritical ;)
-
Actually Akaloner I agree with Pauly, and I tried the mod, your the one who forced me to get it.
-

... lol? ???
If CoH2 will be developed, realistic damage won't be one of it's features like it's predecesor CoH hasn't.
As @Pauly3 said, if CoH2 will have that implemented, will be a Company of Heroes just by name, because in gameplay will be another game.
-
I used the force to make you DL it ;)
I hate that people whine 'BK is soo unbalanced, its crappy , etc etc,' when thats whats happening to EF' Soviets are waay to OP, they lulzpwn everything its so fing unbalanced' :P
Know what your talking about before you criticize, people :P
-
jeez i know what i am talking about cause i have played about 20 pvp games in BK
and i think axis is seriously OP and somebody in the BK mod team is a way too big fan of the SS
-
I dunno. Ive played BK at a few lans now and it seems pretty balanced. The majority of us just are better at axis. But get the right guys on the allied team with me and we blitz the Germans...which in and of itself is a funny action ;D.
