There was a poll on best SMG of World War II, so I thought there should've been one on rifles.
-
For me, the M1 Garand :P. It could fire as fast as the soldier can pull the trigger.
-
M1, am not an expert on this stuff, but it was semi-auto, very accute, fast reload, and easiley produced.

Also it wasnt very heavy for its size.
-
Agreed, M1.
-
M1 Garand, for all the reasons listed above. We drilled repeatedly with this thing...it's ridiculously easy to field-strip and assemble, plus it's weight is evenly balanced (although pretty heavy). Recoil can be quite a bitch if you aren't used to handling rifles of its size though.
2nd choice? the Kar98k, because of its reliability as a bolt-action rifle, excellent range/accuracy, and the pure stopping power of its 7.92x57mm IS round. The Swedes even had a variant (M40) which used the extremely powerful 8x63mm M32 round.
...why isn't the Steyr Mannlicher Repetierstutzen M95/30 (M1895) in here? Also the assault rifles (BAR, StG44, etc.)?
-
semi-auto:Gewehr 43
bolt-action: Kar98k
-
the enfield cause it served so many nations well
-
M1 garand for sure
'The rifle that won the war'

semi-auto:Gewehr 43

Which one's that?
And I only counted "traditional" rifles, so BAR and StG don't count.
-
Yeah as far as traditional rifles go M1 par none was the best of WW2
Most enduring would go to the mosin nagant, still seemed insane that it could be more accurate than the Kar98ks and were even better scoped and design too..
-
M1 garand for sure
'The rifle that won the war'
It was low level squad communication that won the war for US.
If COH was more historically the US should be the only fraction that can call in arti without officers. You dont see volks or grens carrying a squad radio.
But M1 was the best rifle of WWII.
-
Finally, people Agree with me ;D

Austria-Hungary, used by axis minor states & Germany in WW2. Also, isn't the BAR a Light-machine gun? :P

technically, the BAR was supposed to be designed as an assault rifle, but was deployed more often as a squad LMG much like the FG42. so in a sense, it served various roles ;)
-
I voted for SVT-40...that design was so good that even germans had to copy it...the Gewehr 43 is derived from it.
But as for bolt-action rifles i would vote Kar-98...it was almost half century old and still performed very well, even compared to semi-automatic rifles.

I quoted it.. ofcourse i don't think they won just because of a rifle.

The Germans use of small squad tactics set them apart and allowed them to do very well. They're use of highly experienced NCOs and Sergents allowed the small squad operations to be very successful when well supported like any other army.

I wonder if anyone will pick "Hunting rifles"
-
The enfield british rifle use smoke less recoil . . .
So for the sniping duty its the best gear . . .
-
yes the BAR is a LMG but the name is Browning automatic rifle that two last words saying its like assault rifle... :P
-
There are two types of rifles(three including sniper)
1. Assault Rifles : semi auto, fast firing like the m1 carbine and the m1 garand
2. Long range firing rifles : typically bolt action like the k98, mosin nagant, lee enfield etc
The first one was used for short range closing on purposes and the latter for shooting from distance ( the assault rifles can be used at range but are in accurate and the bolt action cannot be used for assault purposes)
and mind you when i say shooting at range i do not count the sniper rifles , cuz the sbniper rifles had a far better range than bolt action, here are the accuracy stats
assault rifles - 200-300 m
bolt action - 700-800 m
sniper - 1000 - 2000 m
So here are my picks
assault - svt 40
bolt action - k98
sniper - lee enfield sniper
-
semi auto : G43 , its a semi auto sniper soo what else can I say?
bolt action : Kar98 ,its efficient and accurate.
