I know that pistols weren't used as often, but what are your favorite sidearms of World War II?
-
Mauser, I love the unique look to it and plus the fact that it was the inspiration for the fictional DL44 blaster that Han Solo uses. :D :P
-
Walther PPK, the original 007 gun.
-
M1911, truly an American classic. ;)
-
Browning Hi-Power. The orginal Special forces Weapon [If i'm correct the SAS Still use them? or do they use SIG-SAUER p226's? v-v]
-
I own several WW2 vintage pistols, including a P-38 (heirloom) and a broomhandle C96 Mauser. However, my favorite sidearm is my Luger P-17 Artillerie (Stoeger & Co.) model...it's the one pistol I always take to the firing range or to reenactments. It's such a beautiful work of art---elegant, well-proportioned, and fits well in my palm. Fairly accurate, too. 8)

my Top 3:
My Number 3 is the P38 for being a well balanced pistol
My Number 2 is the Mauser C96 for having a big clip and possibility to make an smg out of it
My Number 1 is the Luger just for combining effectivness with a huge amount of style
-
Luger, very nice power and somewhat accute.
Why do you think all the Americans wanted one? ;D
-
My Number 1 is the Luger just for combining effectivness with a huge amount of style
And very low reliability...
Carefull not to shoot youreself.

I would rather choose the Webley, as far as I've been told the Luger was prone to jamming a lot at battlefield. My second choice would be the C96 Mauser.

Looks cool :)

I think the reason it jammed was because the ejector thing opped out to eject aspent shell and dirt easilly got inside it.
Still not many people are fans of the M1911? The US military still uses it from time to time, the .45 ACP has some serious power behind it and the gun to me just looks so stylish.

Well, the websley has lower capacity and higher recharge time but the .455 Mk II is strong too ;D!
-
undoubtedly the mauser
-
I wish I could find that clip of that guy who shot himself with a luger in Band of Brothers, just for those luger fans. ;)
-
By mistake?

By mistake?
Yeah.

Its a hard choice for me... either the Webley, Colt.45, or the P38. The Webley is a fast reloading, reliable, and powerful sidearm. The Colt.45 is great with a silencer, powerful, has a very long service life, and iconic. The P38 was fast, reliable, and just damn stylish. Luger would be last on my list, extremely unreliable, and very prone to misfires, and expensive which is why it was replaced by the P38.
-
I voted for Colt .45 M1911. That gun is iconic, has serious firepower and was in active service within US military for almost hundred years...well i call that a good design, not to mention its quite stylish as well.
-
Well let me see , the best pistol will be with which you can shoot urself easily ;D ;D
-
M1911A1 :D
-
I'll go for the mauser. It's badass.
-

I like the way it kick back and what it do to flesh"

Still don't understand the Luger rage. The gun sucked, sure it made a nice war trophy, but not something that I would rely on for my last hope.
-
personally Colt 1911, good size and good stop, the 9mm is a little shit :P.

Well maybe because it had style. I mean look at the Colt 1911. It uses .45 ACP and still people vote for it.
-
Comparing Luger Firepower to Colt '45 firepower.. Like comparing the firepower off a MP5 to a Challenger 2.

Maybe within a 5meter range after 5 meters the .45 looses 99% of it's power, while the 9mm round stays powerful.

Went for Nagant (could have gone for Mauser).
It's the feel, like with the Mauser (or Han Solo's gun) you'd feel safe having one of them on your hip.
I'm more into a cowboy style, nice quick draw, good feel, looks awesome.
-
I love the 9mm Luger!! its so cool, it has an type of look I find sexy... what ima gun lova!!!
-
This may be out of place, however, Sasu 1995,
"im the true Tsar!! bow down to Comunism!! >:D"
That didn't make the least bit of sense.
-
it means: "am some strong stuiped guy, if you don't ruin you live by being a Communist, I will hurt you"
-
The Luger might not be the most reliable weapon but it still is a very beautiful gun. Luckily the thread is about your favorite and not the best. ;D
-
IMO, the M1911 is the best pistol ever made. It used the 45ACP, which made it even better than the 9mm or the 357 magnum handguns. It could carry 7 rounds, more the enough to kill Nazis. And finally, you could put a suppressor on the gun.
-
The nagant holds the true Soviet power to execute the fachist krauts invading on the soil of mother russia. The nagant for the stylish commisar!
-
The M1911 simply would have blown someones head of if he was hit. But the Luger is still the sexiest one, it has even kinda cult status, what is the reason why i voted for it.
-
I'd pick TT for it's penetration ability (it can actually pierce through bullet proof vests at 50 meter distance, if you are able to to hit it from that far), but it has problems with the clip falling out (well, it had such at the time of the war, and if you managed to get your hands on a dug out TT you would soon discover it), really inconvenient safety lock, low stopping power (small bullet, high velocity)...
So I picked nagant: reliable, precise, convenient, and six bullets is more than you will ever need when it'll come down to pistols.
-
As a side note, I was trying to get my parents to buy me a P-38 for Christmas but it seemed too difficult to get.
So now I think I need to settle for some ugly comtemporary piece of crap, probably a Springfield X.D. I like the style and charm of old guns, today's stuff look like copies of each other. Not variety! :(

My favorite pistol is polish VIS wz. 35.

After the September campaign Germans used it as Pistole 35(p).
