Title: [EF] Moscow (2)
Post by: Porta on February 04, 2009, 11:50:45 AM
[EF] Moscow (2)

By November 1941, temperatures dropped to minus 40 degrees; the mild snowfall turned the ground into a nigh impassible quagmire. With just 50 miles to Moscow, German commanders were expecting a monumental victory in the East. When the Siberians counterattacked, the breech loading of Gefreiter Porta's Panzer cannon froze solid. The Wehrmacht retreated, and Porta was one of the few German soldiers to have seen the towering might of Moscow itself. Whether or not he would live to tell his tale is an entirely different story.

sounds cool it was cinda like that i imagined but with all the trenching ww1 style to it. though what i would have done to solve a no mans land in betwen the trenchlines would be to have a big sector on each side that stops halfway through thw no mans land so it goes fifty  fifty to each side.

Er. Won't people like arty and mortar spam this map possible?

My clan has played this map a fair bit, and suprisingly it dosent really suit arty camp styles, especially if ts a VP game as you need to get out into "no mans land" to secure those VPs

The Pop cap is small, at 56, so it limits spamming of alot of units and tends to encourage a team orenietated/combined arms approach.

Would you prefer a more traditional map, or roll with this map style?

This map is cool. We'll take the 6p version, as you can still play it with less.
Some little things you have to do. I would like to call it Moscow, as it fits perfectly.

1. Rename the filename to "6p_Moscow".

2. Rename ingame map list name to "Moscow (6)".

Once this is done, please post new version in the initial post, and its a wrap.

I think moscow fits well, because it fits the design of the map with the null territory.
A place at a point of time where things can go both ways easily, in a kinda bogged down situation.
The germans also cant conquer the territory, representing the furthest point of advance.
It's all more in a symbolic kind of way.

The ground conditions might have been different often, but it also wasnt like it rained non stop.
What do you say Porta?

Yep nice summary Apex, i concur

Indeed, Moscow is often overlooked as one of the most critical battles that occurred on the Eastern Front.

Operation typhoon was launched Sept 30, 1941, with the first mild snows occuring around Oct 6-7, which subsequently melted truning the ground to a quagmire by the 12th Oct

by this time the Vyazma gap had been closed and the lagre bulk of russain troops anhilated, Zukov is quoted as saying the "there was no longer a continuous front in the west and the gaps could not be closed becuase the command had run out of reserves. The road to Moscow is almost entirely unprotected!"

By October 14 th rzhev had been taken. just 130 miles northwest of moscow, wher on the same day Stalin ordered the evacuation of top millitary and govournment officials to kuibyshev.......Moscow was on the verge of Panic

But stalin didnt lose his nerve, and by 19th Ovt he resolutley regained control of a paniced millitary and moscow unleashein g the dreaded NKVD

By November german forces were 50 miles from Moscow, on Nov12th tempertures dropped to minus 5 degrees,  then  up to minus 40 degees during Novemebr and december...german equpiment began to fail, thousands of soldiers suffered frostbite, or simply frooze to death in their summer uniforms, and then the Siberian troops arrived!

On December 6th 1941 the Soviets launched their counteroffensive, beginning the major loss for the germans and a bitter fighting retreat though no mans land!

Porta, please change your Map Name to $18010115 and your Map Description to $18010116 and also post a menu description of the map around 50-100 words long on this thread.

Apex I am confused by that last comment - will it remain a 6p map or will it become 1v1? And will it still be called Moscow, or will that be the name of the 1v1 map?

MAP DESCRIPTION

Operation Typhoon was launched Sept 30, 1941, the first mild snows began falling around Oct 6-7, subsequently melting and turning the ground to a quagmire by the 12th Oct.

By November German forces were 50 miles from Moscow, temperatures dropped to minus 40 degrees.
Oberstabsgefreiter  Porta knew they were in the shit when the breech in his Panzers gun in his froze solid......and then the Siberians counterattacked!
On the retreat from Moscow Porta was one of the few soldiers to have seen the towers in Moscow itself......whether or not he’d live to tell anyone was another question!
