Title: Russian tanks and buildings
Post by: vengefulnoob on February 08, 2009, 01:35:38 PM
I think a few soviet tanks (kv1, is2, t34) should automatically be able to drive through buildings: it seems supid that only the Germans can do this when most sides did in the war...

OR:

Add this to my list of ideas for the first ability for mechanized assault doctrine ability (ie tanks get faster turrets, better engines, better optics and both t34 and kv1 get flamethrower and of course can drive through buildings

i like the drivethrough idea, i'ts fun driving over stuff and buildings dont move so it makes it easier... it's a pain to try and drive ofer infantery, they are like the opposite of GTA instead of jumping into the street they jump away from the driving way... moorrons

I think all infantry should be allowed on tanks, not just regulars!

Are you sure that only German tanks can destroy buildings? My M3 halftrack earlier smashed a hole right through the middle as it gave up trying to squeeze through a gap.

?

I didn't think so, or at least you can't order a tank through a house I don't think...

I'd also like to say that I think the su76 advanced optics upgrade should be more general, so the ability:

Makes t34 faster, better turret turning speed and hull mg becomes flamethrower (like on Churchill crocodile in OF)
Gives kv better armor, better optics and increase turret speed
Gives su76 better optics, armor and speed.

Is it possible to create new models for buildings? Some people asked me about it.

what about a situation when a turret turns back while solders are on armour?

It will just go through them. Minor graphical glitches like that aren't really a problem though, you will only notice it if you purposely try to pick up on it.

Is it possible to make that a turret have been limited in rotation, while people are on armour?

It is possible and a good idea, but it's not my call.

RaIn19 proposes a bunker idea
(http://easternfront.org/forums/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=643.0;attach=131;image)
He propose to give to Partisans ability to build unique construction - Zemlyanka)

Zemlyanka can have 1 squad    garrison. it have 3 types of upgrades:
1. MG Maxim (Zemlyanka will lose a garrison ability)
2. Command post (2 trenches on the sides. Zemlyanka will lose a garrison ability)
3. First-aid post

Rather than Partisans being able to build that, you can see in the Guide Log Bunkers (with MGs) are part of the Propaganda doctrine.

I like the idea of lvls being the requirement to go on tanks, like in Call of Duty 5, you've earned the right to rest your feet.
Guards, no requirement.
Regulars, lvl 1 or 2.
Conscripts, lvl 2 or lvl 3 maybe?

The requirement would depend on the starting skill/power of a unit, whether they'd get the reserved right or not (hence no requirement for Guards).

Personally, ive only ever see a tank knock the corners off a building, never go straight through.

You're probably sick and tired of my guards suggestions, so here's one more to cheer you up:

since tank riders were used to defend against panzerfausts at close quaters, how about an upgrade for guards. I know they have grenades and an awesome long range weapon, but it'd fit their role as tank riders if they had a 50 mun or so upgrade to pps-43s: the reasoning being that the original squad is good for range, while the upgrade gives the guards quite a kick against at guns and infantry

another upgrade: for katyushas, the option for more racks. At a cost of 150 mun, the salvo is tripled to 48 rockets, giving a very powerful attack, but in addition, there is a significant increase in reload time

Katyusha is pretty goddamn powerful already for the cost, pop cap and fact it has no call in limits. Adding another rack would be overkill.

PPsH upgrade for Guards isn't a bad idea though... I usually only use Streky because of their PPsH ability, Guards are alright for their long range and AT grenades, but up close they can suffer slightly.

Lol, it'd add another 2 racks...

Like to hear u like guards with pps-43: tank riders used smgs more often than rifles...

Yeh that's true, it was invented for Vehicle crews and service personnel (plus recon).

Not a bad idea, but we must consider the Guards high health and un-suppressable nature.

Absolutely, the guards are awesome, but this doesn't so much make them OP as give them a better chance in close quaters.
