Hey guys, most of you have no idea about me but one of my hobbies is stamp collecting. I am fairly new to the stamp war, but being at work on my collection for only 5 months i have amassed quite a few interesting stamps and i try to identify as many of them as possible (to make sure i have a whole set). I have recently come across a set of Austrian stamps that i am having a problem identifying.
Can anyone help me out? I don't really have much German at my disposal and i have checked multiple databases (including the Austrian Postal Database, which seemed to be down for some unknown reason) but haven't found a single trace of the stamps. if anyone can help here is the stamps that i have from this series

Sorry, I can't help you there but am sure Werewolf could, he knows this kind of stuff. Wonder what hes up to these days.
I think its cool that you collect stamps, I collect coins and patches.
-
Perhaps if i ask my Siberian Husky to howl towards the moon Werwolf will show himself........
Seeme what kind of coins do you collect? I have an international currencies collection, some from countries that don't exist anymore ( Soviet Union (of course), Republican Spain, Nazi Germany, South 'Nam and North 'Nam just to name a few). My grandpa started it back in the Soviet Union and i have kept it and expanded it.

I mostly collect American coins, but I have some Republican Spain ones and Nazi Germany ones.

Cool dude.

Werewolf isn't here.... hmmmm
Come here boy! Come on, we got a nice bone for you to chew on! And you can nibble on Neos while your at it!

"Republik Österreich" = Republic of Austria. Hmm, I'm no stamp expert, but judging from the designs, I think they're pre-WW2, possibly even Weimar-era (the First Austrian Republic was established in 1919 and lasted until the 1933 Anschluss). In any case, these are pretty awesome, not to mention uncommon. ;)
-
Hmm thanks Werwolf, I thought they were made after the war. They looked like they were pretty modern, not pre-war. I'm just a little suspicious because they depict POWs, but the only Austrian POW stamps i've seen are Post-war

How werewolf knows this kind of stuff, I don't know.
-
*shrugs* he speaks the language i guess.

That's just my opinion of course. ;D For all I know, I might be wrong hehe. I'll let you know if I find anything new.

K Werwolf, im going shopping again on Thursday so i might have some new stuff (mostly Russian stuff which i know quite thuroughly) but im hoping for some Prussian stamps or perhaps Nazi stamps.
-
K guys I have a new set of post cards from what I believe is a Wehrmacht postal service, I've recently returned from the New York Stamp Society's Bi-Annual and was looking through old acquisitions and found these things. If anyone have any information please do tell.

hey neosdark, i think its cool that you collect stamps, so do i. however, i am obviously more of a noob at it than you, having no pre-ww2 stamps. my oldest is probably an Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr stamp from 1968.
-
I collect international money ;D. Have fun collecting your stamps though neosdark :P. You could always try eBay :P

Well at least you have stamps mate, its an unfortunately shrinking (but it will live on) hobby, because most people in modern day use e-mails and stamps are no longer needed, but like I said this will never truly die because hobbies like this become the hobbies of the richer classes (akin to collecting rare paintings or other fine art) because of how rare fine art is these days. Stamps will do the exact same thing.
My oldest stamp is actually a White Army (Army of the Northwest in particular) circa. 1919. I do happen to have a lot of interesting stamps mainly because its a family thing for me (my dad, mom, aunt, and most of my extended family collected stamps at some point or continue to do so to this day) so we often share.
And truthfully I have only been at this for 3 or 4 years. I just have a lot of contacts that's why I have a large collection

about the dying hobby you are so right. my grandfather used to collect stamps and he was an army medic in world war 2. my parents have always said that if i show my devotion to collecting, they will give me his old collection, so i have high hopes
-
Yea older collections usually have extremly rare stamps, my great grand uncle had a collection starting from the 1880s and this was when you wouldn't put them behind a protective cover or keep them in place behind thin paper (or plastic) but they are actually glued into the book and they stay there. He had stamps from the Prussian post office that most German stamp collectors have never even seen (they heard of the rarity, of course)
-
man, thats awesome! it is so cool to find someone else who actually collects stamps! have you ever heard of the penny black?
-
No, I don't believe I have.
I tend to collect War Stamps. My entire collection is war based. My most recent acquisition is a series of Libyan Jamahiriya stamps, in fact I have an extra set of the Blue Stamps (14th Anniversary of the Libyan Revolution, 1983, Women's Role in The Revolution is the theme)
-
wow, man that is awesome. i was thinking about getting some hitler stamps off ebay, and i think that war stamps are probably the coolest.
-
The problem is that Hitler or Reich stamps in general aren't too expensive or rare. The only Reich stamps that I know are very rare are the Propaganda stamps (I have seen 2 personally and only those two) and the misprints which are also quite rare. Of course I can be wrong but most Reich stamps are in fact very common. Now if you can find some Occupation Stamps (ex. Ukranian Occupation by Germany has a common Hitler Stamp with the Words Ukraine written over the Grossdeutchsreich part) those are worth quite a pretty penny.
-
i knew about the hitler stamps not being rare, i just think there cool. if you want rarity, check this out- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_Black (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_Black)

Ohhhhh, I just saw one of those on Thursday (at the Stamp show), cheap IIRC, didn't know it was the first stamp ever though.
