I read somewhere that the Nazis had a base in Antarctica, and it seems interesting. But I have some questions.
1. Is this true? Or is it just a bunch of lies?
2. If it was true, what were they doing there?
3. Why didn't the Allies try to stop it?
-
They went into space when the war was lost. Everbody knows it

Besides what Killar said can anyone answer my questions?
-
Well from what i know there was an expedition by the Nazis to the North Pole. But I'm not really sure if they had a base there... Lord Rommel should know more. I know a lot more about the Nazi trips to Asia, more particularly into the Himmalayas.
-
The Nazis had alot of weather stations in the northpole/artic area. They used them to make weather predictions for the luftwaffe so they wouldent fly into a snowstorm or if they needed fuggy weather to sneak into a area they could plan for that and so on.

1. Conspiracy theory
2. Nazi UFOs, hollow Earth and all that
3. According to the conspiracy they did http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Highjump#Conspiracy_theories (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Highjump#Conspiracy_theories)

No. 1 Sorry for "reving this old topic, maybe it was like Project Nova in CoD:BO?
I'm not sure if the stuff there is real or not.
-
Search for "Neuschwabenland" ;) U will find your "german nordic bases".
But the most important point of this bases was already mention:
Weather forecast ;) Important information for aerial and naval warfare!
-
Isnt Project Nova in COD:BO taking place in russia? Or am I mistaking now? XD
However . NO. The Project Nova its pure fiction ^^
However again. Correct me If Iam wrong but didnt this stations act like small checkpoints and likes for the german submarines too?
-
No. There wasnt any german u-boat station at the Antarctica.
Neuschwabenland was a propaganda mission and a mission for installing just a weather forecast station.
Like i said: weather forecast was the most important key point of aerial and naval warfare.
U can plan long time naval operations or an aerial offensive when u dont have any long time information for this operations.
-
False.Sometimes the german passed in the North Pole with their U-Boats, simply because they received those territories by Denmark in 1940
-
What is false oO
-
oh did they? Like rest of Denmark... ;)
-
You just tried to prove Lord Rommel, a german historian wrong?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtMO-omeo5s#)

It is true that there wasn't any german u-boat station at the Antarctica.
So it is false the opposite.Anyway,it's nice to find someone who really studied history too.

I am sure the Germans used their arctic bases for stuff other than weather forecasting, but it would probably have been relaying information that German spies in the US or the Soviet Union to Berlin. I seriously doubt that the germans had chemical bases in the norht/south pole, as chemicals don't do well in the cold, and it would be cheaper to make the U-boats go to German controlled docks in Europe than using a pole base to where the allies could easily bomb the transport that are fueling the U-boat pens' that aren't in the poles.
-
Well, that's the thing, if a Chemical somehow gets out, it won't go far.
Anyway thanks guys.

When we - germany - would have such bases we would have some documents or datas about it. Such a project like chemical factories and/or laboratories would need a lot of logistical stuff. There are no indication for such a big project.
