Title: EF 2v2 AT Tournament 1
Post by: GodlikeDennis on August 31, 2010, 02:06:38 PM
That's right, the first EasternFront.org tournament is officially announced! So grab a co-commander, polish those boots and get ready to wage war.

Signups are now CLOSED!

TOURNEY BRACKET:

Format: 2v2AT - Swiss* (1pt per win) number of rounds TBA - One game per round (500VPs, standard resources) - Top 2 scoring teams after all rounds play a final, best of 3 series, to decide the winner - Factions and Maps are to be decided between the players. If a decision cannot be reached, contact a referee and a coin flip will decide.

*Swiss Tourney - Similar to a round robin format, you will never be knocked out of the tourney but instead earn points based off the number of games you win. Teams that lose in the first round will play each other and teams that win will play each other. This ensures everyone has the most evenly skilled matches possible. The two teams with the most points after all rounds will play out the final.

Factions allowed: Soviet Union, US, Wehrmacht and Panzer Elite.

START TIME: 18:00 GMT (20:00 CET) 11th September. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early, or arrange your first round game before this time, or you risk disqualification due to delays.

If you are unhappy with this start time leave a message and, if we can work out a new time that everyone is happy with, we'll go with that. The time will not be changed after the Thursday before the tourney.

Use the following timer to set your clocks and take into account daylight savings in your country. Link not working? Copy it to your browser address bar.

http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?day=11&month=9&year=2010&hour=18&min=&sec=&p0=0 (http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?day=11&month=9&year=2010&hour=18&min=&sec=&p0=0)

Match results:
Post all match results in this thread! (including replays). Your game will be forfeit if you, or your opponent (if he's nice enough) are unable to provide a replay. Screenshots are not required.

Please name your replays appropriately so it is easy to identify them. Use the following format:

Round No.: Team 1 vs Team 2

Eg.
Round 2: GodlikeDennis/EFAllActionNoPlot vs Retake3/ColonelLiberachi

You may also post them on GR and simply provide a link to them if you wish (using the same naming format).

A crash/disconnect will only mean a replayed game if you are ahead of schedule or if the game had only just started. If you are not, a coin flip will decide. If one team was clearly winning, an appeal MAY be requested quickly by a referee. Send the replay to them and they will decide a clear winner or choose one based off a coin toss. If you are unsure of what to do, contact a referee immediately.

Restrictions:
The only maps allowed are:
Duclair
Etavaux
Linden
Lorraine
McGechaen's War
Pointe du Hoc
Rails and Metal
St. Hilaire
Wolfheze
Kursk
Tannenburg

You must have the latest version of EF to play. It is currently 1.23.2

Prizes:
Fun
Bragging Rights!

To avoid NAT errors, please check your connection to Relic Online:
- start COH, login
- press alt-tab
- open web page: http://www.canyouseeme.org (http://www.canyouseeme.org)
- test ports 6112 & 30260
- if the test fails, you must open the ports in your router & software firewall.. see http://portforward.com (http://portforward.com) for configuration of different brands of routers.
Note: If during the tournament you still can't connect to your opponent, there is an option to use hamachi. Download here: http://hamachi.brothersoft.com/hamachi1.0.1.5 (http://hamachi.brothersoft.com/hamachi1.0.1.5)

Please check your connection BEFORE the tourney begins. If you still have difficulties after following these steps, visit the following thread:

http://easternfront.org/forums/index.php?topic=4456.0 (http://easternfront.org/forums/index.php?topic=4456.0)

All the action will be in the Play CoH Mods chat channel & this thread. Try to be there 15 minutes in advance to avoid delays or even disqualification. If life gets in the way of this momentous event, please advise me (via PM) as early as possible. If you are not sure you can play, sign up as a reserve team instead.

I would advise voice chat programs (such as teamspeak or ventrilo) to teams so that they may communicate more effectively.

If you would like to play in the tourney but don't have a partner, post your name in this thread, followed by -teamless to allow me to find you a partner. Someone else may also feel free to offer to be your partner. If you don't have a partner for certain, I cannot guarantee that you will be allowed to play in the tourney.

At least one member from each team should add myself (GodlikeDennis) to his/her Relic Online friends list. Type /addfriend GodlikeDennis into chat to add me. You will also be required to add any other referee, should there be one.

Dragon has volunteered to be a referee [RO: EFDevDragon93]

I think cairnelwizard is my panther, reserve it unless he says something otherwise. I have no idea if my ports are good or not and the website didn't help much so I downloaded hamachi, hopefully that would help. Also the chat channel should be "Play COH mods" for 2 good reasons.

1. It is the official EF Channel many EF players are on.
2. It dosent have lots of players, so it should reduce confusion.

Good luck everyone, but beware! Am going to win those bragging rights!

For those who are unsure if their ports work or not, even after following the steps, I will host a test game every few days for several hours and you will be able to check your connectivity there. The times for these games may not be advised ahead of schedule. Today is such a day, I will have a 4v4 in the lobby for a few hours while I am afk.

hmmm... too bad that brits are not allowed :) why is that?

I was just thinking that if you need some random factor for the 1st match for example you might use the automatch with teams playing random since nobody else is using it atm it should get you the random sides and map :)

I might be up for the tourney to have some games, my RO is KlausOnEasternFront although my usual teammate is visiting holland at the time of the tourney so I'm also looking for somebody to play with.

Because currently you can't consider them as "balanced".
Title: Re: EF 2v2 AT Tournament 1
Post by: Seeme on September 06, 2010, 12:05:47 AM
And auto-match dosent work.
Title: Re: EF 2v2 AT Tournament 1
Post by: GodlikeDennis on September 06, 2010, 05:12:34 AM
Aww, no manu?

Brits are currently excluded because they might be more balanced now but they're still no fun. They're also eternally broken in 2v2s because of the mobile HQs and resource sharing.

Automatch does so work. Also, the tourney bracket works in such a way that it can't be set like that. The best I can do is randomise the team seedings.

About 8 teams so far taking into account teamless players so if we can get to 12 I'll be quite happy.

Could the teamless players msg each other and maybe play a few games to see if they can decide between themselves if they can arrange their partners. Unfortunately, the last person to sign up as a teamless will have to be excluded if there's an odd number of you.

Also, I'll be hosting a test server Midnight tomorrow (GMT) for about 12 hours. Please check your ports in this time and make sure you can connect.

GodlikeDennis / EFAllActionNoPlot will no longer be participating. I will still be tourney coordinator up until the day of the tourney but during it, Dragon will be your go-to man. This is only a small change in the running and will have no impact on your tournament. Make sure you read and understand all the rules (particularly those on posting replays, map/faction choices, time and chat channel) before the tourney and check your connectivity to make life easy for everyone.

For all those who were really looking forward to getting wooped by me, we can arrange a game afterwards :P.

Not in Australia. We've already been at it for 7 weeks and it's peak period for mid semester's.

I'd tell you all that signups close soon but Seeme appears to enjoy that. Also, can 1 more person from the community register as a teamless player so that Klaus doesn't miss out.

Title: Re: EF 2v2 AT Tournament 1
Post by: GodlikeDennis on September 10, 2010, 08:36:57 AM
Signups are now CLOSED! Unless you want to replace blackbishop in the tourney, it's now too late to play and you can sign up for the next tourney instead (expect it fairly soon :)).

I've randomly allocated Spieel and Klaus to one team, and Nickpol and blackbishop to another. Team Leutnant has opted to not participate this time.

The Bracket is also up on the front page, so feel free to play your first round match or get some practice in before the tourney. Again, please be a little early to allow for everyone to get organised. Because there is an uneven number of teams, one team per round will have a bye and will gain 1 point. Blaed and Nigttbold have the first one so will not have to be quite as early as the other participants.

There will be 6 rounds unless the bracket craps itself, in which case there will be 5. The two highest scoring teams will then compete in a best of 3 series to determine the victor. If anyone's wondering; yes, the seeds were randomly assigned. However, after the first round you will be playing other teams closest to your points level.

ALL REPLAYS MUST BE POSTED. Please read the naming rules.

Any queries on the day can be directed at EFDevDragon93, your referee. At least one member from EVERY TEAM must add him to your friendslist. These can include who you're playing next, do you have a bye this round, technical issues and decision moderating - he will flip a coin to decide disputes. He'll be the one updating the scorecard so if you spot a mistake, tell him straight away.

Good luck everyone. I'm sorry to miss out but I'll pop in at some point to see how you're all doing.

Title: Re: EF 2v2 AT Tournament 1

It's in the rules, you simply decide between yourselves what you want to play. If neither team can come to an agreement, ask dragon to flip a coin for you.

The final bo3 will play out exactly like a GR tourney ruleset.

Title: Re: EF 2v2 AT Tournament 1

^^ It was said upwards, since there is a odd number of teams, One team will have to sit out every round. For that round they get a "win". So the guys with one point will sit out the first round. Second round someone else, etc...

Tournament is now over, here are the results:

There were some issues during however, namley Challonge's inflexablity, many people didn't show and some had to leave.

Of note  Spieel joined Dezzick from Round 4 onwards as his teammate was a no show and nickpol15 had to leave.

I may well run another 2 vs 2 Tournament in a month or so only I will be keeping score and team matchups with the old pen and paper method.

Congratulations and thank you to all who took part.

Regards Hawk.

Alright, I've returned. I hope that people had some fun in spite of the real life issues that plagued us.

Massive thank you to Hawk for stepping up.

We'll use this tourney as a basis for future ones, by seeing what did and didn't work in this one. Clearly the challonge bracket made things to inflexible in regards to people leaving and whatnot, so perhaps it's best not to use it in future. Did people like the swiss style though?

We'll have another tourney soon and hopefully use what we learned from this one to make that one work great.

Lastly, congratulations to team ROcl.
