Love the eastern front, but I usually only play skirmishes against the AI. Today I got a friend to download EF, and when we went to play online together, we couldn't because it said our versions were incapabtible? Moreover, about 95% of the online games are "incorrect version" for me. Any idea why this is? We are both patched to the newest COH, and both have run the EF Check For Updates to insure that we have the newest version of that? Any help would be appreciated.
I noticed that this issue has been posted here before, but it seems the poster always finds a solution and it was a botched install somehow. I hope that happens for me, but I am almost positive that he and I have done everything exactly as needed.

For a little added detail: under "Game Info" it says "Incompatible mod version. Them: reliccoh You: reliccoh."

Reinstall Eastern front. Its either a bad install or you edited some game files. Do you know what version you have?
-
Sometimes when installing 1.20 and trying to update by the launcher doesn't works.
Try installing EF_Setup(1.2.1.0).exe if you haven't and now you can search for updates with the launcher.

If it says "reliccoh" sounds like one of you have a messed around with vanilla files. I assume that you can play vanilla just fine with eachother?
"CoH Dir/WW2", does either of you have a "data" or "dataattrib" folder there?

I had this problem a while back with a friend who was using a steam version.
He had EF installed to the correct directory (steam/steamapps/common/COH), however when he did the patching up he didn't change the directory in the EF launcher so the patches were installed in the default/wrong location (THQ/COH). To fix it I simply located the patch installer downloads, and installed them in the correct location for his version (steam/steamapps/common/COH) and deleted the other folder. This fixed all our incompatibility problems.

That's just an steam issue :).
@fildred13
Which version do you have?

Thanks everyone for replying so quickly! This really is one of the best communities around.
Anyways,
@Rizz: Yes, my friend and I played vanilla online with eachother last night and it worked great. I have COH, OF, and ToV, he has only COH and OF.
@mr_pricky: My friend and I are both playing non-steam versions installed to the default directory. I installed all the mods for both of us, I'm quite sure they were installed properly.
@blackbishop: Both my friend and I followed your link and installed the newest patch, and then we both checked for updates, and it told us that both of us were up to date. I am on COH 2.601? (the newest one. I think thats the number) and EF 1.2.3.2 (I assume, since Both he and I followed your link and installed that patch. Is there a way to check the version number in the launched?
Lastly, I just want to note that when I loaded Vanilla and went to multiplayer, all of the games were free for me to join. When I load up EF, however, 100% of the games are greyed out and says, as it did before, "incompatible mod version. Them: reliccoh, you: reliccoh.
Since vanilla works just fine for me playing him and playing others online, I assume my issue is somehow involved with EF?
Thanks again.

Wait, do you see the VCoH people's games?
-
@fildred13
If you are playing EF you cannot join CoH games and vice versa. If you installed 1.20 you must install 1.21, then 1.22 and so on until 1.23.2; not the last version.
@Seeme
If you disable the filter...
-
Yes I know I was asking him.
-
Well my friend and I still can't play online together, though we have improvement! He and I both uninstalled EF and then reinstalled the 1.20 full installer. We then both updated through the launcher to 1.2.3.1. Now, when we try to play together, It says "Incompatible game version." I know they aren't different, so what do you guys think?
Thanks.

Did you checked that all EF files were removed?
Did you installed a skin pack or something that could modify the core files of CoH?
-
Yes, all EF files were definitely removed before we reinstalled.
No, neither my friend nor I have installed any skin packs or mods other than EF itself. I have plenty of custom maps installed, but only to the mp directory, nothing out of the ordinary.
So strange :(
-
Do you and your friend installed the updates in the same order? 1.20->1.21->1.22->1.23->1.23.1->1.23.2
-
Yep, we downloaded the full 1.20 and the launcher updated our games one update at a time, 1.20->1.21->1.22->1.23->1.23.1->1.23.2, just like you said.
-
Could you and your friend uninstall EF, check that all files were removed and install again?
You can keep the EF_Updates folder if you like though, so you can update without using the launcher. Also, has your friend CoH 2.601 too?
If you like before applying each update, if you have time, you can try joining on a match(not to play just for test), to detect if that happens when you install 1.20 or later when you install some patch.
-
Ok, we'll uninstall and reinstall one more time, and test each patch to see if its the patching process that causes the error.
I am fairly sure I know where all the EF files are located, but are there any hidden things I should know about? I know about the three Easter Front Folders in the Main Company of Heroes directory.
We will be trying this tomorrow. I'll post results then.
Thanks so much for all your help, this mod is the best modification I've ever played for any videogame, it's great to receive such support for it. This is better than Relic!
-
At least you and your friend have to make sure that Eastern Front directory(CoH Directory\Eastern Front) doesn't exists after uninstall.
-
You never answered, do have you a "CoH Folder\WW2\Data" or a "CoH Folder\WW2\Dataattrib" folders? (either of you?).
-
@Rizz: Sorry, I completely missed your question. Yes, both he and I have a CoH/WW2/Data directory. Thats where all my sgb custom maps go. The only thing IN the Data directory is scenarios/mp. Why do you ask? They're only custome maps, I can't imagine thats causing a conflict? Should we try backing it up and deleting it?

Yet another strange development.
My friend and I uninstalled EF and deleted all the EF folders. We then redownloaded the 1.20 full install, and installed it to our games. I booted up, installed no updates, and hosted a game. He launched EF, installed no updates, and then CoH asked him to indicate where he purchased CoH? Like it was a first time launch of something? We indicated Steam, but it didn't like that, and it didn't like Retail Store either. We booted up his VCoH, and now it asks him the same thing when booting that version as well, and it won't let him play CoH at all!
I have that problem every time I install CoH it seems. It always wants me to insert my CoH CD, when I obviously don't have one. Why is it so retarded like that?
-
Tell him to go Steam->Library->Local Files->Verify Integrity of Game Cache, perhaps he deleted a Steam file.
You can download the 1.21 patch from here (http://www.files.easternfront.org/updates/), after installing it you can update with the launcher, but i think that will be done later :).

Do you have a Retail Key associated? Well, that's the problem of including a "DRM" on a version that doesn't need it... Oh Relic... when will you fix your mess.
-
Simply sounds like Relic Online is offline, that happens then.
The maps should not cause conflict, but maybe your friend has other stuff there? Like art files, or a dataattrib.
