so i just got EF and so i started the game played a couple skirmishes to get the feel for the russian faction and i loved it but it was really sad for me to see that there was not a single game being hosted........any feedback would be good.
-
When do you normally go online? It does rather depend on you timezone, I am on GMT+2 and at around 8-9pm I see at least 4 games being hosted.
-
im gmt+1 and i play in the afternoons and late night mostly so ill look this evening if i see anything :D
-
My relic name is Spieel, same as here, We could play a couple of games if you want.
-
It's also unfortunate that 80% of the few games that are hosted are comp stomps. leaving a very small margin for people who want to play against other people.

True, but every time I go online I host a normal game 500 VP standard resources for at least ten min, Every little bit helps right?
People normally join quickly enough.
-
I always find a game, don't know whats you peoples problem.
-
- I never have problems finding games.
- Host your own game. People will join! ;)
-
Its better then 1.20, anyway.
-
Maybe 2.0 will be better, still!
-
^^ Can't wait ;-)

I don't think there's going to be another big soviet patch. The next one is going to have to be the Osteer.
-
Patches are only big when we add art files. We still have some new soviet stuff that will get finished and added before Ostheer, so you'll get some large patches in the mean time.
Ostheer is still a considerable way away from anything resembling a release version.
Bearing in mind I'm not personally involved in Ostheer, I would guestimate 10-12 months minimum till patch 2.0 that adds them.
But there will be plenty of inbetween stuff we'll be adding
-
another year until the Ostheer is finished :'(
-
I wouldn't have thought so, but If we had more active skinners on the team (nudge nudge), we'd be making quicker progress.
-
:-X

There was me thinking skinning was the least of our concerns...but then again as I'm not involved in Ostheer....so, I'm just 'guessing'.
And of course we recently hired some new talent for that if I'm not mistaken which no doubt will fill any perceived gap in skinning ;D
-
Whos the ' new talent' ?
But lately it seems like there arent many games on for anything.
-
I think that now we lack of animators.

-
What tools are needed for COH skinning?
You need skinners, not modelers?
-
CoH skinning requires Photoshop, Gimp , Paint.net , anything that can open .DDS files I think.
-
Skinning is annoying, Espically If you haven't done it in years.
-
The key/core for moving Ostheer forwards is 'The Animator' and we haven't had one available, since about December 09'.
If we can't incorporate models in the game then we can't make the faction.
As such, put bluntly, we've been waiting/depending on what people produce externally to incorporate them in EF.
You could call it 'outsourcing', but we have no control over what is being built/animated.
Skinning is the last concern with regards to Ostheer.
-
It like a factory with 1 broken machine....
-
Put an announcement on the front page maybe?
-
It's already there, at the right of the first post, Join us (http://easternfront.org/?p=news). Perhaps it's a good idea to be more especific. I hope that works, I'll talk with Dragon.
-
I wonder, is Animating really hard?
-
I wonder, is Animating really hard?
How can you ask, when there is no animator to answer ;)
I believe it's the hardest job after coding.
-
My sister is probably one of the best animating in the world, but see dose it for some other stuiped game....
Maybe I could learn a thing or 2.
-
The process of Animating itself isn't very hard, but a person who had animated before wouldn't be able to just pick up a model, animate it and expect it to work in CoH. There's loads of crap you need to use in order for the animation to actually work in game, markers, bones, exporting. You also need to be proficient in the Object Editor.
-
What happened to the following guys:
Kamikaza22 -
Hartkeks -
Calavera357 -
eliw00d -
Their all animators as far as i can see, did they stop :'( ? I really hope you will find some more animators since thats whats holding your progress back.
Hopefully this is just a matter of time before you get back to the old EF dev strenght 8)
This mod is too legendary to simply pause ;D keep up the fantastic work and again thanks for the mod, i appreciate all the effort and hard work you guys have put into this mod.

Kamikaza22 - "Retired"
Hartkeks - "Retired"
Calavera357 - I don't know who is him. He hasn't done any animation for EF, I don't know why his name is posted there.
eliw00d - Same that the guy above.
Where retired:
Means the user has voluntarily expelled themselves from the forum, never to return. Unless of course they get obscenely bored some days. I think they have some RL stuff to do (Kamikaza22 & Hartkeks).
Perhaps they were users(Calavera357 & eliw00d) that tried to help once but they repented and their names aren't deleted yet.
-
I still say the devs should have opened paypal donations or something to hire professional animators or any other needed helpers. I for one would donate 8)
-
I don't think that would be easy...

Its not , its a pain in the ass , especially when you have no idea what you are doing

Does seem like the mod has come to a bit of a standstill, and some of the recent posts by Zerstorer seem pretty downbeat. Like the Ostheer "1-2years away, maybe never" :'(
But I suppose if theres no animators then work can't continue, and we'll have to wait about, there does seem to be quite a large amount of models being produced over on the relic forums, which could help to fill some gaps.
Ho hum, still happy to play with the Soviets, its not like a lot of us didn't wait for ages for the 1.0 release anyhow. :)
Stay positive, I'm sure it'll pick up and get going again eventually.
Cheers

Dev's may have to rethink the vote for changes. I like things as is, but something will have to give in order to get more players. IMO, being able to play ranked(automatch) games with Soviets that will count and show records will bring people back. The problem is having to lose one of the other factions.

Devs won't modify vanilla CoH, just the expert' advices for balance.
It's a similar issue than recrewing, and soviets would have ranking when Relic allows it :-X.

While Ostheer is in standby, in other hand soviets can be tweaked (patch 1.24), just be patient ;).
-
Stand by!!!!@*(^$#%@)($@()*$)@*)!!!!!!!
This is horrible! We can't have a "Stand by"!!!!!!!
We need animators!!!!!
-
It's not like devs just stopped ostheer, they are working on another topics. But the moment will come when the only thing that would be left is the animation.
Also by now nearly everything is on StandBy because they are busy in RL. You can confirm this just looking at the fact that the patch 1.24 hasn't been released. Please be patient.
-
Lol, Am to busy in School to Worry About EF anymore, my spamming summer days are gone.
-
Ohhh!!! my heart is full of happiness! :D
Good news! https://twitter.com/CoHEF
fuhhh...was thinking that osteer has no chance =))))
-
Hi!
I wasn´t following the progress lately. When i checked the twitter a few days ago, i was sad to see no updates for a long time.
Hopefully there are news now. There are still people out there who want to win against Russians, with Ostheer of course!! ;D
Who animates the models for Normandy 44 mod? As i understand, you Devs share the models for both mods.
Greetings
Christian

I wonder if there is a tutorial or something which can explain how to animate... If yes I'm volunteer to try, I cant promise anything as I'm not someone experienced with any sort of modding... but, hey, I can still try! ;D ;D
-
Hope its not another April Fools Post...
-
As BurroDiablo said the actual animating part isnt very hard, its the stuff that come with it.
If you wish to learn theres a few good tutorials on youtube on basic animating. I would suggest learing how and when to use bones and markers that should help anyone who wishes to attempt exporting to COH
