Title: Ostheer Update 1

Greetings EF Fans,

This is the first of the update series sneak peaks for the new Axis Faction, Ostheer (literally translation "Eastern Army").

The current plan is to release these every month.

Today we will cover the Ostheer's Buildings. Yes we know, nothing interesting, but we have to start somewhere.

The HQ
The HQ of the Ostheer is, like most other armies, located in a local house, generally a farmhouse. From here you can upgrade your base and recruit your building/repair unit.

Infanterie Gruppen Post
You can recruit infantry support here. The Infanterie Gruppen Post is the backbone of your army; this building allows you to call in your early support units and basic infantry units, such as the Landser.

Schutzen War Camp
Your first step into modern, mechanized warfare. The Schutzen War Camp have a wide list of specialized support and assault units. One of the units in this building that you can build is the Panzer II Ausf. L "Luchs".

Panzer Kampf Kommand
The Best of the German Steel is ready to steamroll the enemy forces. The Panzer Kampf Kommand is where you can call in your tank reinforcements. All tanks reinforcements requested from the Kampf Kommand comes off-maps when they arrive. For example, you can request the Panzer III Ausf. J from here.

Nice to hear something about the new faction. :D
Will just remined everyone that works on the Ostheer that the Americans get AT pretty late, so you can't give Ostheer tanks to fast.
Just make sure that you need an upgrade in the Schutzen War Camp before you can roll out the panzer II or other powerful vehicles and everything should be fine.

Also
I like that! I like that! I like that! I like that! I like that!   :D :D :D

So what kind of armor type does PzII have?
As allways I fear that something will park near my HQ and kill all of my Tommies before Ill get my Stuart and even then it will be hard to destroy. SdKfz 251 armor?

Will there be any foreign troops with foreign (Italian?) speech?

Will ostheer have a disposable flamethrower?

Will Ostheer have any static guns?

Will they have any medics or repair vechicles?

Will there be an HMG34 or a LMG34 squad ingame?

Will Ostheer have Shrecks? Hope not. AT riflenades that can be fired while running would be great...

What are the doctrines???

Will there be a JU-87, a flame tank maybe?

What kind of mobile arti will it have?

What kind of infiltration unit will it have? A sneaky spy or maybe more "traditional" Stormtrooper like uint?

Waited so long for it. Finnally something is starting to come together.

Good god man, relax your ass, it will all be revealed..... at some point. Your getting carried away with the questions a tad to much.

Oh and I think they will have a "Anti Partisan" style infiltraton unit, that can effectlivly deal with the soviet's Urban Combat Doctrine. Kinda like extreme ANTI-Partisan/Sniper unit.

Due to the recrew bug, i think a LMG34 squad would make more sense, because its a handweapon like the shreck.

wouldn't that be another spammable piat? I don't hope so.

What are the doctrines???
I think Heeresgruppe Nord (Leningrad: any siege units, artillery), Mitte (Kursk, Prokhorovka, Orel: many many tanks) and Süd (Stalingrad, Rostov: urban combat, artillery)

Hopefully Wespe.

So most tanks and units come "off map" as call in, right? Ostheer is a call in army?

That would suck... :P
In 1941 Army Group North made more progress than any other army but it couldnt capture Leningrad - so it should be the most mobile doctrine. From 1942 to 1944 only the southern front was mobile.
And why would you want 2 artillery doctrines? As Field Marshall Zukov said the german army depends on mines more than it does on guns. Why cant they be called Siege and Maneuver doctrines? That would made more sense.

I don't know why you're thinking this, even you bold the phrase and got that as result?? was it a rhetorical question?  ;D

Only tanks will come from Off-map and doctrine units of course. That's why that text is located just on Panzer Kampf Kommand section. Also I think you misunderstand the term, they come off map when you construct them, you build one and when finished it will be arriving from off-map instead of the factory.

M-8 mines and tank traps will be nasty but I guess Ostheer can plant their own mines to counter that.

Cant wait to see how the vet system works...

nooo, Osther will be unique with it.
And how do you expect to make tanks wheels and treads to move without animators?  ;)

yeah but

As i understand your early units are constructed in the Infanterie Gruppen Post, but come from off map. So are the tanks in the Panzer Kampf Command. Which units will come out of the building after constructing?

Sorry for bothering, but it´s the first real Update and i wanna know more  ;D
Title: Re: Ostheer Update 1
Post by: Blackbishop on November 15, 2010, 07:58:18 PM
oh, perhaps i used the wrong word, but i meant recruit, i didn't think of call in as synonymous of call off-map. In the current ostheer concept, all tanks but Luchs will come in that way.

Epic. Nice to see OH finally coming online. Kinda sad though, wasted my time and am now polishing off my rather large concept :/. 72 pages of units, abilities, and entire new stat tables for everything from the G41 to grandma's new oven  8) +1 for the OH.

Since the panzer command won't actually be constructing the vehicles, there will be no need for animations, so it would be cool if you guys made it a brand new building. While something is under construction you could just have radio waves coming from it (brit LT, funkwagon etc).

Indeed, new buildings are on the list of additions to EF, but have low priority.

If there will be a foregin nation, I love to see Hungarians, with hungarian speaks, so I can laugh my ass as I play (cuz then I know what they say, and if you played Halo:Reach, the "native people at Reach" is also speak hungarian, and I really laugh a lot). Hunarians fight the eastern front (2nd Hungarian Army), but they crushed by the russians at the river Don, near Stalingrad. They are outnumbered, and their equipment was old, ... you can learn more at wikipedia (2nd hungarian army)

Good, I could think of a million thing I would want before new buildings. Ostheer, more doctries, more units, fix brit, new voices, possible to see when USSR tanks lose their main gun and of cause better balance.

Also don't use the PE buildings they are huge.

Right! thats the reason i asked for, not demanded.

Perhaps i should have complete my question more precisely:

Will you announce the ostheer update at the beginning of the month or in the middle? Because first update was in the middle of november and second update will be in a few days (as announced in the last update)?
