Title: On advertising the 1.3
Post by: SavageWorld on December 09, 2010, 01:14:50 AM
Many off us believe that 1.23 is already better than the current meta game off CoH. And it seems like 1.3 will make yet another make the diffrent even greater.

The problem as it is right now, is that so few people play the mod. My suggestions is that we try to come up with ideas about how we can make sure that 1.3 repopulates EF again.

We could get an article up at gr.org a week before the pacth is released, so people will know exactly what time they should log in. Hopefully more people will log in at the same time, play with other people and have a good time with the mod. Maybe some off them will even come back and be a part of the EF community.

This article should at least have information about
1. How Reborn has helped balanced the mod, even if they did not help with 1.3 (many still think it is impossible to win against USSR.)
2. How the Brits has been changed (It is commen knowledge that a lot of people at gr.org hates the brit, and would like to see them changed.)
3. That you can now pick up heavy weapons with USSR.
4. If possible the article should be on the front page so old CoH players see it as well. (many people have moved to DoW II and CoHO)

What does it help to have a great mod, if no one players it?

Yeah getting GR onboard has always been important for the mod to flourish.

What would be nice would be an interview with a top player discussing how the mod is changed and has a nice focus on changes that affect competitive balancing. If people see that an "expert" has decided that EF is the best option for CoH then the rest should start to flock. Have EF featured in a broadcast game between two experts as well.

A nice idea SavageWorld!

In addition to ads, people can go on COH online forum and try to convince people to play it again. I can do that at least for the french forum.

We've tried that several times in the past and hasn't really worked out to be fair.
You can't shift that community onto a mod no matter what. Despite the never ending complaints, they'll only play COH:O and vanila.

You did it with 1.0. most people played it.
I think that if you just say that the mod is out people will see the news at diffrent times -> log in at diffrent times -> see that no one is online and log out.
My point is that if people know when it will be released -> they will log on at the same time an find other people to play with.
Also I am not talking about getting everybody to play the mod, if another 100 or even 50 people begin to play the mod, it was worth the effort.

I agree, any influx of people at all is a good thing. I say we advertise every patch as much as possible and hopefully a few more people pick it up. The key to GR getting onboard is the opinion of the experts. If you got them to approve of the mod in an interview or broadcast game I think a lot more people would give it a go themselves.

The problem is, people still listen to others who say the mod is imbalanced, SU OP, no skill (without retreat etc.). We just need to put information everywhere that this isn't the case.

i often ask in CoH chatrooms (like Berlin chat) "anyone up for a game of EF??" and all i get back is : "shit balance, lets play BK!" (lol)
i think many people like BK cause you play actual Nazis (with SS insignia) it is terrible that people like this

Another idea. If we post in the EF related topics on gr.org, the CoH forum will go up on the main page, which normally led to more attention. I don't think we should spam the forum or anything like that, but one or two posts that shows you like the mod or explains some of the misunderstandings can't hurt. Also we can't expect the developers to do all the advertising, we need to help out.

Seeme because of you title as mr.spam you have extra responsibility.

Make sure to host alot of games the following weeks after the 1.3 patch has been released, so that new players who try the mod out wont enter a desolated lobby and quit the game before even trying some multiplayer games.
