Hi guys, I want to start making maps, but I'm just confused to hell on what to do. Any tips, ideas, suggestions, or requests?

check this. to get the basics.
Don't worry about your first map, just try to look around and get used to some buttons.
Hold Shift to rotate, H to set height, C to copy objects.
At the beginning of making map create new MP map, set it's size, and after loading press "Scenario - atmosphere properties - fog" and TURN it OFF - this will allow you to see better, and increase the performance.

send a pm to jimbosmith he is a very good tutor 8)

Yeah, i have spent a long time playing around with World Builder, trying to figure it out, but there's no sort of instructions or anything! I would REALLY love to know how to make territory sectors! It's so stupid that they expect people to just know these things...
-
youtube has a lot of video walktroughs made by players
-
You can also ask me :D

'cause people are lazy. Too lazy to search on their own.
-
Great tutorial, Walki1! It's now in my favorites. Maybe 1 day will be able to make a map of my own...

;D ;D ;D
Are you so tall or fat that you need a map OF you? :P
Anyway, short, but precise and failsafe tutorial. Good work. Wish that people could search for it on their own and stop asking the same gdm question a thounsand times.
Maybe I will also make a tut where I explain some of the basic functions like creating tiles, splats or splines and also action markers.

It's not for me, man; All the fleas keep getting lost in my crevices!

I didn't knew about it!! I created a simple topic about it and also is stickied!
-
Hey, that's great, man! That will help many people, i'm sure!
-
Perhaps the reason nobody knew it in part was because there's no tutorials on that section of EF's wiki.
-
Could be... But i don't know what a "wiki" is... (And your spell-checker doesn't know, either...)

You can check it for yourself ::). (http://i56.tinypic.com/2d8gfwn.jpg)

Oh, yeah, there's a "Wiki" button! It would be more noticable if you could see it from this here forum... And it doesn't seem to explain what exactly a "Wiki" is. But, yeah, i'll have to explore there some day. The Internet is such a big place, isn't it?

hmm now that it is stickied I'm going to make more of them ;).

A wiki is a website that allows the creation and editing of any number of interlinked web pages via a web browser using a simplified markup language or a WYSIWYG text editor. Extracted from Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki)
You could always see that wiki link at the top of EF forum, no matter what section you are visiting so, I don't know what are you talking about :-\. However, that section is far from being finished.
-
Thanks for the info, blackbishop. By the way, this is how i see your forum:
-
What a weird case :-\.
Here is the link of EF's wiki -> http://easternfront.org/wiki (http://easternfront.org/wiki)
-
Thanks, man. But i can see it from your home page. Just not the forum.
-
Made my first map today. Thanks for all the help!
One more thing, how do you make a good looking hill?
-
Thanks for the info, blackbishop. By the way, this is how i see your forum:
You are using another theme, try switching to the default theme to fix it.
-
Oh yeah, that worked. Thanks, Rizz! I prefer the "testtheme" because it's wide-screen... By the way, the first and last themes seem to be exactly the same...

I'm making a map right now, its called Evanstown (not the finally name) I'm around 25% done, my younger bro wanted to have a bridge map, that wasn't included in CoH:O (he's getting CoH for his b-day). Sorry no screenshots today maybe when I'm 45% done. I'm also making another map, called Beach Assaut (5% done) out of interest of making a beach defense map, and the attacking side has to cross the "ocean" to get to the beach.
-
Well, i can't wait to see how you are going to have crossing an ocean work in a primarily land-based R.T.S....

I got the idea form this map: http://companyofheroes.filefront.com/file/Iwo_Jima_8p;92408, (http://companyofheroes.filefront.com/file/Iwo_Jima_8p;92408,) you'll see what I mean.
I've scrapped both maps in favor of Trenchvile (10% done).
P.S. I used this to help me build the trenches. World Builder Trench Design Tutorial (part 1) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWg-D2NayLw#)
