I find it really disappointing to come to a conclusion (which I do), that default (vanilla) maps are so much better, than those, that come with the mod in terms of ballanced and entertaining game-play! :-\
So, I feel, I need your opinion: what EF map do you, people, really like over the vanilla ones, and why?
-
Kharkov ( 2 ): Funny, small and immediatly.
Non-stop-fight-area in the middle of the map.
Good to play with every faction.
Berlin ( 8 ): Fantastic!
Awesome atmosphere. I love fighting under the Brandeburg Gate. 8)
Map for no-lagger players ;).
-
Kholm - great map, love to play on it.
Vien - again great map, but it's a bit too small.
Seelow Heights - as far I can see the best 3v3 map.
-
I would said Berlin but the Reichstag needs some fixes for example the stairs and the towers.
-
Make a poll so we can vote IJoe ;D
My favorite EF map is -
[EF] Tannenberg: The map design and layout is awesome, its well balanced and fun to play. The mapper knew what he was doing here. I only wish the mapper who made this would do more maps :'(
-
I like Tannenberg, Dom Pavlova and Cottbus.
-
I like Tannerberg - it's cool map and very balanced, Leingrad - because i like bridges maps, but this map is to small for 6 players, better is for 1v1 or 2v2 IMO.
-
Tannenberg is by far the most popular. Its nothing special, but I think the fact it was made by a Reborn member (Whiteflash if memory serves me correctly) who played regular online matches means the map contains everything a good map should. Flanking opportunities, open spaces, a limited amount of strategic buildings, minimal chokepointage and decent resource layout.
I personally think that it may have been a mistake not having a dedicated mapping team on board and just leaving it up to the community. Not that the community is bad, it's just a dedicated mapping team could have made more PvP competitive maps like Tannenberg, or at least I would've hoped so.

+1 But is it too late to change that? or is it impossible to remove maps that havent got a decent quality of design.
I think you should stay with whats good, improve whats worth improveing, and remove the useless stuff. Sorry for taking this abit OT

Some players like chokepoint f.e. the scheldt players. That's why I made Leningrad.
btw what's about the campagin maps? Is there a plan for releasing them after the campagin comes out?

That Leningrad map of yours is SEVERE ;D
However, it's doesn't suit well for what I would call a casual multiplayer or its' compstomp simulation, for, as you have already noted, it's a bridge map. Moreover, it's virtually a BRIDGE-map ;D
-
Leningrad is more bridge than map! ;D
I think my 2 favorite Eastern Front maps are Leningrad and Tannenberg. However, St. Hilaire is still my #1 favorite map! Honestly, i think St. Hilaire is probably the best map i have played in any game.

Well, I tried to organise an official mapping team over a year ago in the 'Recruiting Mappers' thread but only a few showed interest and none of them bothered to make any maps. Apart from Walki who has made... half a map? (joking ;D )
No, it's never too late, but lots of people just seem to want a shiny 'Developer' badge to seem important while doing pretty much fuck all.
@Walki, Yeah, the Campaign maps will be released to have pvp or compstomp battles on... so yeah, keep that in mind :P
-
But mappers get a "Mapper" badge, not "Developer"...
-
I was talking in general... not just laying into our mappers :P

I gotta agree with you here, so far i haven't seen a single EF map that I really liked. Most of them are either too bland, too cluttered or horribly imbalanced, some all of the aforementioned. What I really thoroughly hated was Kursk because the clutter made pathing a nightmare and the sector layout was the worst I have ever seen(Only 1 med fuel and 1 low fuel -> Have these and the game is over).
Berlin I personally find also to cluttered and most importantly, far to dark. I also think city maps just don't really lend themselves to CoH. Villages and Hamlets work great, but city maps, I just don't know(because of pathing issues, chokepoints).
Maybe you guys should take a look at the vCoH mapping community and GR.orgs mapping contests, there's quite a few excellent maps that haven't been adopted. Maybe the makers of these maps would make slight adjustments or renamings for some of these maps to fit the eastern front-tone, if they even need to. I also recall 1 Berlin map which I quite liked, it was Götterdämmerung by Henry666 which was a 3vs3 map, played it in pre-OF days.
-
Seems that Henry666 makes good maps :).
-
Well, there is still plenty of potential maps on the outside, it would just require asking for maps.
As far as deleting maps people never play on, I have no problem with that, but it would need to be put to a vote Also, maps that are quite badly designed but set on famous historic battlefields, like Kursk, should be redesigned at some point or scrapped and remade. Somebody needs to do them justice.
-
Should I post some pictures of a campagin map or is it not allowed? ;)
btw will post a update of the map on the dev forums soon (Yes, I worked on it).
-
Afaik... Das ist verboten! :P
-
kk btw I will update the post on the dev forums RIGHT NOW! :D

Like Sevastopol :'(... If you appear on the bottom-right corner, it's difficult to use vehicles.
-
So why we discuss? Let's do this!
-
My favorite Map EF : Cottbus (4), Moscow (2) & Prokhorovka (6)
-
Now Moscow is an interesting map. It's most unique in how it has only 1 of each of the 3 different points for each side, and the middle is no territory at all! It makes it particularly hard for the Brits in Victory Point games, since they are very limited in the amount of room they have to build emplacements. I wonder if we'll see any more maps like it in the future...
-
Kholm because is the only map where i have 0 lag(i think that i have lag for windows vista)
-
Prokhorovka
My last stands in the village is always fun.
-
Tannenburg, Minsk (though a bit too small) and Dom Pavlova (first map in EF I've ever crashed on due to lag :D)
-
Now, when there are lots of written down opinions, I decided to add a poll, feel free to vote :D
-
I chose Moscow, for reasons i stated previously. It's just so unique. And there are some other maps there i'm not familiar with, so i guess they were added in later updates...

Maybe you can put the option where you can choose more than one map. ;)
