Company of Heroes: Eastern Front
Eastern Front Mod (Read-Only) => Suggestions => Topic started by: Panzer4life on February 01, 2011, 12:37:40 AM

I was thinking while i was playing COHO, what if the Eastern Front had a similar layout as that of the COHO. Meaning you chose a faction, than a doctrine, then you level up to five different abilities to use in battle, along with the hero and army items. Granted, this would be after CoH: EF, v 2.0, but it might be worth looking into. Other than the serious amount of work needed to make it work, would there be any problems to this idea?
-
I like CoH (and by extension, EF) the way it is.
-
The biggest problem i see with your idea is -
it would ruin the mod
-
I don't know about items, but if you like the CoHO then you should try the EIR:R mod (Europe in Ruins: Reinforcements mod), its Online multiplayer only, very fun to play (although i don't like the attitude of some of the pros) and quite similar, though much better balanced
-
I take it people hate this idea, and as such, it should be locked.
-
It's too soon to discard that idea at all... However, we have other things to do like finishing the soviets, release the ostheer, the campaigns and so on.
-
I'd like to see an EF persistancy mod, screw all this CoHO crap.
-
1)We don't have the resources to run what would effectively be 2 mods.
2)Not even sure how COHO modding would work given the micro transactions etc....My guess is that it probably won't.
3) Apex wanted to team up with EiR, but that never took off. Given the conflict of interests between the two mods, that's probably a good thing.

As far as i know, Company Of Heroes Online is shit. Why would you want to ruin 'proper' Company Of Heroes?

CoHO is going to be shut down on March 31st. Go nuts 8).

Really?
PS: :D :P
-
Umm... Yay? :-\
-
If Relic ever fully abandons original CoH, how many of the Devolpment teams for all the mods would try to apply theirs to CoHO? Is it even possible with their system of using real money to buy upgrades? Seems like it would be another mountain of work.

Lol. Idiots who actually paid for their overpowered hero units are gonna be pretty upset.
-
Well, I didn't see that coming.

Wait, CoH:O is really dead?

well, looks like it's going to be... terminated ;)
@happycat - awesome pic, I must admit :D

Yeah... Where do you people find these awesome pictures?!

If you signed up before the 1st, you can get a uber cheep Gold Edition.
Well, looks like my brother is going to get it.
-
To be honest, if they are just shutting the game down on them like that, they really should give them the Anthology for free...
-
Ok, first of all the BETA is closing down, NOT the actual COHO project - Meaning what they've actually done is a limited test run of the COHO model. It could even have been used to test how COH2 will run without reviling details on it...you just don't know. Speculating the actual project is finished is way too premature and a rushed conclusion without any evidence.
To be honest, if they are just shutting the game down on them like that, they really should give them the Anthology for free...
Why would that be? Did they pay anything in the first place and need some kind of refund?
-
Yeah, i read somewhere about people spending money on it...

Actually they have stated, that this is the end of COHO permanently. Although some elements of COHO may be used in their future projects. And some guys have spend their money on COHO cash...which was buyable through real money. Anyway it doesnt look like its their decision...looks like THQ wants to shut some projects which dont pay much...or at least it seems to me like that...
-
Reading the thread on the CoHO forums, it seems CoHO IS being totally abandoned in favour for continuing to support vCoH and the expansion of the series :o
Good move Relic, fuck those whiners ;D
-
Well, i do hope it's not Company Of Heroes II, because you guys will have to start all over again... :'(

Don't think so, i'm pretty sure if a new CoH game is going to be released, will feature russians/italians(Eastern Front, North Africa).
-
Maybe CoHII will have better mod support? Maybe CoHII will be so goddamn awesome, it won't need modding :P
On the other hand... this is Relic...
Who thinks the new THQ logo is gay? :-X

I think it their former logo looked better.

I fuckin' hate the new THQ logo... I don't want to see that on the next Company Of Heroes!

I don't think CoH 2 would sell well ('cause of the two rather bad add-ons to the first game), - it would require a lot of money, put into commercial, and a lot of effort, put into the game.
Personally, I have doubts about the possibility of CoH 2 any time soon.
-
Well...
We sincerely appreciate your participation, support, and feedback in helping us to design the future of the Company of Heroes franchise. We are excited to reveal the next evolution of the series in the near future.
So, they're certainly planning something. It's either going to be an expansion or something totally new... I'm opting for something totally new.

Company Of Heroes is still very fresh. A sequel really wouldn't be able to add much. I really doubt it's a sequel as well.

I would pay good money to see a hypothetical Cold War CoHII, like an expensive WiC ripoff (lol). It's probably the only place nobody is touching modwise.
-
Yeah scratch what I said previously, cause the Relic guy 'Noun' has now confirmed it!
God knows what these guys are doing....its one misadventure after another since vCOH...what a bloody shame :(

Personally, I don't think CoHO was ever intended to be a full game, it was a development exercise to see what they could do to improve the longevity of gameplay. Since they didn't have anything new, they just had to use what the already had. A lot of companies will probably have to go through this in the future as games become more and more difficult, expensive and time consuming to produce. We've already seen DLC leap into games in order to increase longevity AND get some quick money for minimal effort, but this is hard to do with RTS games as we saw with Tales of Valor and the untested balance of new units. Improving the multiplayer aspect of the game to be a larger part of the game, making aspects customisable, letting players get attached to their units is a good way to keep players entertained and increase longevity. We've seen this in FPS games like Black Ops where the main Single Player campaigns can be just a few hours of gameplay and the rest of the game is tied up in the multiplayer aspect since multiplayer has proved to be big money regarding sales.
Reading the CoHO thread, seeing people cry because their high level units are going to be wiped, i'd say Relic have succeeded in creating a prototype multiplayer model that they can add to future games.

Agree.
For something it's like World of Tanks (aaargh my tanks will be wiped on March :'() where you can buy powerfull upgrade with real cash but WoT was maded specifically for this kind of gameplay (the (in-)famous "pay-for-play").
CoH is not suitable for PFP...for nothing.
Let's will see what Relic do for "our" traditional CoH...
I hope it will not do bul*****. ;)
-
Yeah, i most certainly wouldn't pay for any in-game item! If it's linked to the Internet, you never know when it'll disappear...
-
Theres still so much content in the ww2 era that relic could use for their Company of Heroes series - the russian steppe, african sahara desert and the dense jungles of the pacific islands! i would like to see that happen.
-

One reason I stopped playing WoT for now. I'm not wasting my time on a beta that's just going to reset in a month or so, it's not worth the effort. I hope they do a double or triple Credits/XP period for the first few days when they officially release, I would rejoin WoT quite happily if there were the case, but I do not want to spend a week playing just to get a 37mm for my nublet MS-1.

OT:
I've started to play about 2 weeks, I haven't superpower tanks like IS-7 or Maus; I have StuG, Wespe and today I'll take VK Leopard.
Maybe they wiped all on the first days of March (when my Premium Account goes down).
When I will have to begin playing for GOLD, like in CoH:O...Bye bye!
If the most that I can aspire without paying will be Pz III, I'll play everytime with Pz. III. ;)
End OT

I'm not actually excited about a possible CoH2. Everything Relic has done since Opposing Fronts, in my eyes, has been an extra step away from what I want a game to be. I hated Dawn of War 2, as well. Would have been quite happy with CoH-style gameplay, rather than this silly Hero and 5 people on the battlefield nonsense.
I think they will try again to be really 'innovative' again, and try to 'reinvent' the RTS genre. Not what I want at all.

Fully agree with that!
Opposing Fronts rather ruined it with the Brits, and to some degree, the Panzer Elite. Tales Of Valor has this stupid "direct-fire" thing, and poorly-implemented reward units. I do very much hope that whatever relic does next, it fixes everything, rather than throw more stuff that doesn't work into the mix...
-
What Relic should do Before COH2
-Fix COH 1.
-Make another Expansion for COH 1.
-Start Listening to the community for ideas.

I would say that's what relic should do instead of Company Of Heroes II....
-
I'd rather see a fresh start then a new expansion. A new expansion will introduce more balance problems while some of the flaws inherent to the game wont be fixed. Doesn't mean I'm opposed to real expansion, though, I just don't think it'd yield much success.
Personally I'd love to just have a better CoH with CoH2, still with WW2 setting and with a lot of the gameplay from CoH, but I think if they make a sequel they'll probably choose another scenario as the market seems tired out of WW2 games. Regardless of the setting or whether it's a sequel or an expansion, what I think should be addressed is:
- Better mod support
- Custom map integration, i.e. the possibility to download custom maps in-game
- better map selection in automatch(maybe possibility to untick more maps?)
and some very personal things that won't happen
- No Brits or brit-like factions (complete redesign if still present)
- No High resources annihilate ^^
- no chokepoint maps (esp. the scheldt)

Yes. Fully agree.
But I maybe I can understand ToV with something new like Operations (Stonewall, PzKrieg, Assault) and units (totally unbalanced, actually the Kangaroos and before 2.601 the T17) but all other stuff over ToV it's just only for commercial reasons and profits.

I agree with this post. I didn't like Dawn of War 2 as well, especially because of this "silly Hero and 5 people on the battlefield nonsense". I don't want that CoH follows that path.
-
I was gutted in many ways with DoW2 where as I loved and was heavily involved with DoW until I moved up to COH.
Re-inventing the genre is something most developers want...an ambition. But relic should have taken a page from Blizzard's book and do what they've done with Starcraft2
COHO, I believed to be just a test bed to see what direction to take with COH2. I think it was almost 3 yrs ago when Buggo left relic that she said they were working on COH2 but didn't know what direction to take. That seems to be the case still. Possibly working on an engine in the meantime and testing the waters with products like COHO...
Remains to be seen I guess...
-
Why fix what's not broken? Vanilla Company Of Heroes didn't need to be 'reinvented', or 'redesigned'. I really hate it when developers leave fixing things to the modders...
-
Well that's because these people make a living making games. And they don't earn much,if anything, patching a 5 year old game, and make (probably) very little making an expansion for a 5 year old game.
-
So? It's their game, their responsibility. Company Of Heroes was fine, but they released Opposing Fronts and Tales Of Valor with much less polish, and they shouldn't have....
-
Sorry if this is off the topic that you guys were talking about but, I accidentally put my bros new gold edition on my account ( :'( ). I contacted THQ and filled out their email thing, but do any of you guys know how do I take off a "Product" from my account.
Edit: Fixed some spelling errors
-
Try making a new account an assing the new keys :-\(it's said that you can migrate keys from registered accounts to newer ones up to three times before they get banned)... I had an issue 3 months ago similar to yours but i didn't get any help, neither from THQ nor Relic.
-
I don't get it. Surely COH is 5 years old game, but it's afaik the best strategy ever. And engine isn't so bad. I really don't see anything to fix here. Some more expansions would be great though.
-

Well the point is that it's about profits, not about what you particularly like about a game.

From our point of view it is, but for the mainstream? That'll be SC2. CoH isn't immensely popular and as such expansions won't give you such a big profit as a new game might.

So now, that it all finally became clear to all of us, we should all bring our apologies to Relic for disliking their policy, bring 'em some money, and, on the top of the pie, do some dick-riding for them, right? :D
-
In order to promote the development of games such as CoH ppl should rather stop buying overpriced and consolized crap like CoD.

I believe this thread has run its course now. We've established COHO is dead and hence there is nothing further to say about it other than....well...it's dead!
