Title: SG-43?
Post by: KILLTEK on February 19, 2011, 11:21:51 PM
I think you should add the ww2 russian sg-43 it was used often by the red army

A picture of it is here http://world.guns.ru/machine/rus/gorjunov-sg-43-sgm-e.html (http://world.guns.ru/machine/rus/gorjunov-sg-43-sgm-e.html)

It needed a few people to man it but i think it would be great and have it work like the at guns with how they travel and how they get in position to fire

There's already an SG-43 being used by N44 that may make it's way over here in time. However, there are problems with the animations, so it may take some time.

so this means russ will have a mg like werh and americans has ?
if so i think it will only make them op and break the balance

Soviet tanks rarely had top mounted guns since the gunners were easy targets. And afaik, none would have had mounted SG-43's... maybe DP's at a pinch. Some IS-2's had a mounted DShK's, that may be added in future when we revise the models.

As for the SG-43 tripod being added to the Soviets, it's still to be discussed. I don't see how it's any more overpowered than having a US player cover you with a .30cal... sure, in 1v1's or a full Soviet game its nice that the Soviets don't have an MG... maybe it could be a reward replacement for the Mortar to balance things out, we don't know yet.

like i said to keep it balanced set it up kinda liek an at gun because it needed almost as many people just to operant adn move it

dude lets be serious the only way a faction can be balanced in a rts game is in 1v1 matches after all isnt balance>realism the way ef works??

Unfortunately people (including me) will then just bring up the point of command squad arty and sniper arty, e.g. suppress then either of those arty's, woo vet / CP's. (not the same as mortar - MG combo but perhaps just as bad)

Its surprising that you havent got flamed yet for your heretics opinion about a possible soviet MG!   :o :o

As for mg on tanks, it could be a cool feature; but well, I guess your resource arent unlimited unlike Relic.
But the MG that N44 team made is astonishing; I just wonder when their 2.0 patch will be released. Wait and see.

Key word there being 'possible'... it's not a heretic opinion, most of us have always wanted the Soviets to have an MG. The plan in the beginning was to give the Soviets a Maxim but it's be relegated to the static base defences due to animation problems. Of course, adding in a mobile MG could lead to problems, but there no point in knee jerking over a possible possibility that hasn't even been discussed yet.

dude lets be serious the only way a faction can be balanced in a rts game is in 1v1 matches after all isnt balance>realism the way ef works??

You can't balance an entire game from a 1v1 perspective. If we'd balanced the Soviets in 1v1's only, Soviets would just be medic tent food for their allies in 4+ player games. Sure, if its balanced in 1v1, great... but that's not the end of it.

Unfortunately people (including me) will then just bring up the point of command squad arty and sniper arty, e.g. suppress then either of those arty's, woo vet / CP's. (not the same as mortar - MG combo but perhaps just as bad)

The great thing about mortars is that there's no warning, so if your opponent fails to retreat in a situation where he's suppressed and arty smoke is dropping, you deserve the Vet and CP's. I don't think we're balancing on the basis that an opponent may be stupid or not paying attention :P

What's this "N44" thing? Is it another Company Of Heroes mod? Because if it is, why can't you just use the same animations? A Heavy Machine Gun that operates like an Anti-Tank Gun/Nebelwerfer would be great!

N44 = Normandy 44... EF could use this weapon if the devs want, no doubt about it however, we need to find how it will be implemented and what repercussions will have.

That's being said, you will have news when that happens or not.

N44 is another CoH mod founded by Sweeten, a guy who regularly helps us with AI, animations and sometimes gives us models.

N44 can't get the gun animations working properly. The problem is that the SG-43 model is fine when the MG is set up, but changes back into a Vickers MG when packed up.

As for the last idea, it's been suggested before but the gun would need to be oversized in order for the moving animations to fit and the firing animations wouldn't fit at all.

but could this Mg be placed on top of IS-2, for example? and would it work?

The SG-43 will be fixed in the end, at the moment the only problem is it changes to its vickers state when carried. Sweeten will sort that in the end with some coaching from DB.

As for a vehical mounted heavy mg, thats up to east front mod to decide.

I know N44 intend to mount my DHSK on to the top of heavy armour for air defence and in a bren gun carrier as a lend lease vehical. There was however no plan do use the sg43 as a vehical mounted weapon.

Its bad enough i had to make a tripod version aswell as a carriage version because of animation problems. Im told the animations can be mixed but i dont think any one as yet has figured out how to mix light anti tank gun and mg annims onto one model sucessfully, i daresay it will happen as steps forward are occuring all the time in that department. I may ask Eliw00d if he can look into it, but hes gone off Russian models at the moment.

And yes i finally bothered to register here, hello . :)

Hey blackbishop & BurroDiablo, i thought id pop over from RN and Blacksands and have a look :) . And thanks for the welcome. The Ba-64 and SU76 are ingame now working correctly. The SG-43 still has the annoying carrying problem, but we will get over that hopefully. And the DSHK which i havent posted here im almost finished with texturing. And i daresay youll get your hands on it when Sweetens animated it.
