Just a suggestion. Anyone else think it would be cool to have the Ostheer use the German language voices? (Like how the Soviets have the Russian language voices.)
Would set them apart from WE/PE and would make Ost vs USSR games incredibly more authentic.
Thank You.
-
It would be cool but given all the Relic factions speak accented English it would arguably give an advantage to people playing those factions because they can get audio cues from their units they can fully understand (not counting German and Russian speakers).
Although I have noticed that after playing some EF, Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 I'm starting to get a basic, associative understanding of the Russian phrases so maybe it's a moot point.
P.S.
Can someone who speaks Russian tell me what the phrase that sounds like "enemy stojna" means. I've been hearing it since MW2 but still got no idea ^_^
-
Probably yes... but for me it doesn't matter, because i installed a patch which causes that my Germans (WH and PE) are speaking German and my USA and CW are speaking english.
-
AFAIK, Ostheer will use german voices.
-
How will you do that? :o Just change the ¨original¨ units voice to the german version of the game or doing your own voices if possibel? ( That would be awesome :D)
-
Own voices would take too long to make it into any initial release. We may do English German accented voices in the future, but currently as priorities go it's down there with adding in explosive dogs (although granted it's not as retarded)

Why is that? Is it because of lack of voiceactors or just getting it done XD I know a lot of people (Myself for exampel) would love to do some voiceacting for the game :D

I bet you have your own pocket audio-recording studio with you ;D
-
Hahah. No thats true ^^ But I actually have a close friend of mine who actually got a great recording studio :O I am sure he would let me record some voices in there :D
Btw. Am I the only one who want english voices with german accented? Like WH and PE. I think those are neat ! XD

Since soviets are all in russian language, OH should be in german.
-
You don't need a audio-recording studio to do good voice acting, Just a decent microphone that you can plug into your computer - I have even heard ppl with singstar microphones doing decent voice acting.

Then I don't really get, what's so hard in doing some proper soviet sound, instead of retarded US copy from russian localization, granted what you say is true. ???

Would you do voice acting? (you russian, right?)

I don't see why not. I mean, I have a basic microphone, if that is enough, I can do this, provided some guidance, since I know next to nothing about recording whatever.
-
since I know next to nothing about recording whatever.
Thats the problem. You won´t get the quality of vcoh voices. But players will compare your attempt of acting to the game.
I would do german voice acting too but i don´t have the equipment

You can record with Nero Wave editor. But it can be add some distorsion, that sounds like the voice coming from a radio or something like that.

Well, that's exactly what I meant by pointing out, that some serious equipment seems to be necessary to do some appropriate sound-job.
-
I think having you IJoe as a voice actor for the soviets would be winning, you have the passion.
You can probaly find some voice acting how-to's on google, theres a few tuts over at moddb.com too, could be cool to hear you spit out a few russian accented english lines.
Anyway the devs said that theres 1000's soundfiles that needs to be changed if voice acting was to be implentet, and i guess right now theres more important stuff to be done hence the low prio.
But nothings stopping you from practiceing :D.
-
No need to change the entire faction's sound files IMO. Just replace the stupid sherman-like ).( T-34 etc. references ;D
BTW, there would be no english-spoken replics, since it's supposed to be all in plain russian, so you would have to do without that pleasure of yours. ;)
-
He'll translate similar to this ;D ;D ;D ;D:
English:Kill them!
Russian: Kill the evil stuiped horrible damn idiots in the face!
English:Retreat
Russian: Make a new front line at our base!
English:We are Pinned!
Russian: We are sleepy!
JK :D

The "in the face" made me lol so hard that I forgot to breath xDD
Oh and I would also join the German team for voice acting.
A friend of mine has a brilliant mic and I know a bit about editing audio files.
-
;D You're awesome, Seeme! ;D
I would just like to say, i wouldn't mind buying anyone a decent microphone so you can record decent German or Russian voices, if need be...
-
Maybe we could make some voices seperate from the mod team? Like a tribute to them :D While they are making this awesome mod we can help them with making some voices they could simple add in when they are done? ^^.
I know it aint just drag and drop some mp3 into the right files but yeah it would be fun XD In that way we going to have differant voices for like every OH unit :D Not like WH and PE where every unit is voiced by like 2-3 actors XD
We already know a couples of unit that OH are going to have so lets be creative :D
Ofc this aint anything offical. Just a proposal XD
-
Sure. I'm on board with that. :)
-
You have my support lads :)
-
Ha lets collect!
Panzerfusiliers:
Adressing:
- Panzerfusiliers zu ihren Diensten! , Panzerfusiliers at your service!
- MP 40 geladen und bereit , MP40 loaded and ready
- Jaja, we go there and take down the enemy
- ...
bah if i would have my comp already i could search for the sound files >:( >:( >:(
-
I don't know that it's good idea but we can search german voices in other games and just rip the sound to OH units. My proposition is Blitzkrieg (game), Blitzkrieg 2. There are good german voices.

-
I dunno... Wouldn't you have to ask the Blitzkrieg developer for permission first? :-\
-
hmm would be a hell of a work to search for the fitting files. The sounds in vcoh are unit associated. Schwimmwagen - swim, hotchkiss - frog ...
perhaps for own sound mod.
youtube is a good source too!

right!
-
You have right guys, bad idea. :-[
-
Well, we'd be happy if the community was to do something like this, but remember, we'd want quality... we don't want it to sound like a 14 year old doing crappy Russian impressions in his bedroom.
BTW, this might help so you can listen to Relic's ingame sounds yourself and get an idea of what we'd be looking for for each and every sound -

Sweet! By those word from BurroDiablo I have decided to actually take my part in this holyquest! : D Lets see. Iam going to have to train on my german accent.
And btw dont worry . As I wrote I got the proper recording equipment and actually got kind of a bas voice according to my friends XD Iam thinking about a voice for the Marder II.
If its onething I love about COH its those funny details in the game. For exampel units complaining about having to sit on these shells all day ( Hummel) .
So I was thinking about the Marder II complaining about its weak armour and lack of roof and etc XD. Ofc it aint only complaining the unit will have to talk about XD It will be moving commands and attack and halt and taking fire etc ^^.
Remember! This is nothing offical just a fun thingy that maybe in the end will help our great modteam! :D This means if you do a voicecover for exampel the Brummbär and made its attack voice command to be : DEATH TO THE FILTHY JEWS or something really stupid they have ALL the rights in the world to DO NOT LIKE and cut/edit that voicefile. (Am I wrong if I sadly laughed a bit imagning that picture XD)
In short. We ordinary humans are in no command of deciding what to be included with the voices or not. And your voice (not even mine) are guaranteed to take part in the game.
So. With that written we dont have to have 14 pages of 14 year COD kids crying about why there voice should be for the Red guards ^^.
Come on kids! Lets join the voiceacting party! :D
(Iam really sorry for my grotesc english gramma. Iam a big time Dyslexia nerd XD)
-
Talk about how the rain gets in for stormy maps. In case you didn't know, some sound sets are only active in stormy weather.
-
Yeah thats true! Thanks Dennis! :D I know Panzergrenadiers are so though and hardcore so they are like
- Raining? What raining? ^^
Thanks for the tip!
Iam thinking about making an little easteregg into the voiceacting. Its like you know sometimes when you zoom into soldiers with no activity. Just hanging around. You can hear them small talk.
Its something asking the other ones about if they have heard the joke with an officer and a pig I think? And one talks about that he has a tractor back home I think XD
However. The easteregg would be something about the unit woundering why 2/3 parts of the army speaks english.
Based on the facts that both Wehrmacht and Panzer elit speaks english :P

What i had to say about this "new voices":
Out of my view a german or an english voice actor should make new "english-german ingame sounds".
Problem is the dialect.
Nothing against foreign people but german accent is quiet!!! heavy.
We had a so much different accents here e.g. my town had a different accent and dialect from the next towns around!
So out of my view it is absolutely impossible for a second-language speaker to act like a german speaker.
U need the feeling for the language to make such a voice acting.
And when u have the aim to get sounds like Relic had u will need german voice actors for english with german accent or english voice actors who had learn a bit german to interpret their mother tongue in a "german way".
So i hope Sommakatze u are a "real Kraut" or a tommy who had learned german ^^
Otherwise i'm afraid that the result wont be in an ingame quality on the base of CoH-like voice acting.
-
I believe Sommarkatze is Swedish. ;)

You're looking into this way too much, stuff like 'Is that the correct German dialect?' won't even come to mind for the average English speaking player. :P
Dialect is only a problem for native speakers. It's much easier for Native speakers to pick out dialect than it is for a non-native speaker. I can tell you the difference between Newcastle and Manchester, but not Berlin and Munich... i'm sure you could do the other way around :P
When Americans try to do Scottish dialect, it usually come out as Irish.
-
You are not supposed to provide an accurate translation. What the devs would be looking for, if you have a look at what CoH itself is like, is a goofy but professional dubbing.
In CoH, you have German soldiers saying things like "Ja, commander!" They mix properly spoken English with a few selected German words to make it sound a bit foreign, in a rather cartoonish way. So if you want to give English voices to the Soviets, what you need is an American/British English-speaker that can provide comments and voices, and a Russian English-speaker that can provide funny, silly-stereotypical idioms and words to mix in with the dialogue, as well as cultural references (although anyone who has read Antony Beevor can provide a few of those, no problem).
-

Fun Fact: There are actually Germans who play Eastern Front. ;)
-
Yeah Iam Swedish XD But Iam part German heh ^^. (Fun fact is that I got swedish relatives service with the germans during both ww1 and ww2 XD)
These are however no argument at all for my german to be good XD I understand you to 100% lord Rommel. If I were fully german I would find it rather annoying with voices who didnt speak proper germany XD
I will do my best however and show you guys later :D If we are lucky. Its something you like ^^ A little bit like Idol :P
I still want to encourage other people though to try out some voiceacting! : D Yippie!^^
Thats right Saavedra ! But I think it was decided that Ostheer would speak German and not the awesome typicall indiana jones english nazi german :P
-
Indeed. It can be a little community project, people should get involved.
We'd want Russian voices too. I miss battlechatter when playing the Soviets... I noticed they don't have any.

With the Germans speaking English? Seems a little redundant :P
German speakers will most probably use the German sounds files done by actual German actors in the German language. For me, having a native German speaker play the game using the English translation sound files for a German faction just seems pointless and therefor correct dialect doesn't matter.
-
Well...a small localisation problem, hä ;)
When EF will use "own voices" just for english language settings half of the community will start crying ;D
-
Honestly, i think all the armies should speak their native language, with maybe some taunts in the enemies language.
-
English localisation would be first priority since it is one of the more popular languages and as a predominantly English speaking team we can at least guarantee some degree of quality. With other languages, it would up to those who can speak those languages to sort out their own localisation.
-
Sure. I noticed that there are some Germans and Russians here, so i'm sure they wouldn't mind helping with any translations. :)
-
i think it would sound cool if the german factions speak german instead of some weird made up accent, doesnt even sound german!!!
-
If we ever got the English localisation done, we will no doubt add in an option in the Patch it's contained in for Ostheer and Soviet localisation so users can select whether they would like localisation or not. If you choose NO, Soviets and Ostheer will continue to use Russian and German language soundfiles.

fuck yeah!
does a dance 8)
-
Maybe we could set up a "voice actor community team"?
-
yes that would be good
-
Somebody can explain, why some German squads speak "Yes, comrade"?
I have no anything against, but nevertheless it is interesting. ::)
-
Krauts often say "Kamerad" or "Kameraden"
-
yeah they do, and it was prevalent in the language before soviet control of germany so it has nothing to do with communism.
It means friend
-
Oh, thanks.

I thought Freund meant friend.

Kamerad means brother/comrade/friend of arms. Or it's just one of those german words which can't be translated ;D
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comrade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comrade)
"...from French camarade..."
-
Well. Think this isnt the topic here, or?
Are u my comrade or not xDDD
Also, meine Kameraden! Back to topic - think u want to discuss different here, or ;)
