I like that the Ostheer has different tanks and vehicles. But I wish that if anything, Panzer IV would be there.
-
Yeah, but definitely not at the expense of PzIII (the way it was put on the ModDb page).
Maybe there's a way to include it as an expensive (very, since these tanks are stand far apart in their battle effectiveness) global upgrade of PzIII, that would allow the production of PzIV, after is researched, but only as an addition to PzIII, and by no means a replacement of the latter.
-
With the Panzer III in there, it would most likely fit best in that situation.
-
Ostheer has enough tanks in it's last tier building (and capable enough in conjunction) so, IMO will be redundant to have a buildable Pz. IV. Perhaps could be used as reward unit.
-
Reward unit could do.
-
Come on, we feel guilty enough about having to include the Panther! There's no creativity or challenge invlolved in copy-pasting the Panzer IV as well.

Well truth is that PzIV represents Ostheer better than Panther... but if you wanna feel guilty then implement Tiger instead of Panther :) IMO Tiger represents Ostheer far better as Panther too. Not that I'm having something vs Panthers, I love that tank but the other 2 factions have it. I really don't understand why Tiger is so scarce for majority of players, it all depends on how you design it, including veterancy. It can be normal heavy tank as IS2 for late game.

Yaay, wordsmith is back ;D

+1
Panther rocks! :D

The problem is that there really is no equivalent to the Panther or the Tiger, so we have no choice but to include them. The Panzer 4 had a very similar role to the Panzer 3, and besides, the Ostheer isn't there to single-handedly represent the real German army in the East, but rather complement the existing Wehrmacht and Panzer Elite units and playstyle with new and interesting units and playstyle.

sometimes when LordRommel was crushing our suggestion ideas I felt that it was vice versa.
But anyway +1.

Well, i always thought that the Ostheer will represent a part of the German army in the East, but not completely, similar to the other factions that don't represent entirely their real counterparts (Soviets included).
Otherwise the mod will have redundant units... something that don't fit EF.

Hooray for Tiger! Like wordsmith, I really wished it was buildable. I've noticed IS-2s he said, can only be countered by Tiger 1s ALONE. But if you didn't pick Terror Doctrine, I think 2 panthers are the best choice to counter IS-2s, wehrmacht or not.
-
wait your saying a tiger tank destroy IS-2 in a slugfest? is this true? I was under the impression IS-2 was better armored ??? ???
IS-2 armor 160mm sloped - main gun 122mm
Tiger I armor 120mm no sloped - main gun the famous 88mm
so what beats a IS-2 in a straight slugfest/shootout? King tiger?
-
In real life, IS 2 is better. It's just that I use the tiger, if not 2 panthers, to counter Is 2
-
Countering IS 2:
Have 2 panthers. Have them both attack since it CANNOT go on a tank killing spree, something that the King Tiger can do. Have a King Tiger, Jagdtiger, or Tiger to single handedly kill an IS 2. If you pick defensive doctrine, 2 panthers are the best option in my opinion.
As Panzer Elite, use Light At Halftrack to break its treads, then send in infantry and put Marder IIIs at a range beyond the IS 2s sight. Or Use AT Halftrack to break treads, then use Henschel. Or use Jagdpanther if you want to single handedly take on it. Or just use multiple Panzerschreck squads.
About the topic, even though I would prefer Panzer IV over Panzer III, I did come to accept why the Panzer IV is not being in the Ostheer.
