Hi!
I'm looking for a basic guide about EF units and factions. Need that to improve the divulgation of the mod on brazilian comunity. Just show all units and how the URSS faction works.
If there is no guide, can any of dev's post the units portraits? Then I can make a guide.
Maybe i can make a printable version, like an retail game manual. I have some nice photoshop/corel draw skills. ;D
-
I have uploaded some pics that might help you, there are some picture missing but I didn't have time to make it better.
-
Is this guide bishop?
-
nop, only pictures for SuperSoca.
-
Hmm, maybe I can make a retail manual like the ones given with CoH. It'd be nice ;D
-
Id be willing to help with a guide if anyone wants to do one
more importantly i think we need to gather all the stats for the units and do like a cohstats.com mock up

This is my idea. If you could do that will be great!
I'm trying to do an guide like this, but i'm out of time because i'm already "working" on EF project to brazilian community (soon I will anounce here in EF foruns, maybe opened to portuguese speaking players of other countries) and real life work. My first idea is make a resumed guide.
Beside that my english sux too, then will be very hard to make an decent guide in english, but I can help with Corel Draw or photoshop if needed.
Thank you Blackbishop, when resumed guide is ok i will post here

Well if you were aiming to do a manual-style guide, you won't need stats per say, just a summary of equipment, what the unit is good for, what you need to buy to unlock it, Etc.
For Example:
(Bear with me, I don't have soviet info infront of me and haven't played them for a bit, so names might be a bit warped :P)
Tank Hunters
(Anti-Tank Infantry Squad)
Tank Hunters is the lesser of the two AT Support units, but is not to be underestimated. In groups, Tank Hunters can devastate enemy armor, and in cover they can even camouflage.
In order to deploy Tank Hunters, you will need to purchase the Short-Range Support upgrade in the Soviet Support Barracks.
You can upgrade your Tank Hunters from The Armory with the upgrade "Men Against Tanks." This will give each squad another PTRD Rifle.
Equipment-3 Mosin-Nagant rifles, 1 PTRD Anti-Tank Rifle, Krak AT Grenades
With Upgrade-2 Mosin-Nagant Rifles, 2 PTRD Anti-Tank Rifles Krak AT Grenades
Cost: XXX Manpower (I don't have it infront of me at the moment)
With Upgrade: XXX Manpower (Again, not sure if it's changed)

Yeah that is the idea.
Guys, I will make this manual, but after completing the design (will do on Corel Draw and export to Adobe PDF as a printable version) and add the texts, i will need sume help to fix the eventuals english errors.
Would be nice if I have units stats like cohstats.com, to make the manual more interesting.
-
Well if you're making a basic manual you won't need COH stats, you just need to sum up each unit in a nutshell. If you want to make it extensive, you're welcome to stats, but be warned this confuses new players.
-
If you need english proof reader I will help and am very good, pay no attention to my forum grammar it is non formal
finally I love the idea of cohstats like guide for eastern front! would kill for soviet stats all nice and neat like this
-
yes, but i was thinking to do like some others games manuals, where detailed information is displayed on the end.
Then all manual would be for new players, while last pages will give more detailed information that experienced will apreciate.

I apreciate that, will tell you when manual is done :D thanks

I don't think you comprehend how incredibly complex the company of heroes combat is. You would need the last 500 pages to remotely come close to producing ALL the actual stats. The wiki we had was a good idea but nobody seemed to actually work on it and it got spammed all the time.
I'm also happy to proof read/make small grammar corrections.

LoL. Yes I do.
I also asure that don't need 500 pages to show stats relevant information to expert players (not comp stompers...) like aceleration, weapon damage, weapon penetration, covering bonus, veterancy bonus, etc. We dont need "ALL" the stats because we don't need to make calculations about progamming, just need to know how to take advantage of situations, capicce.
I need some more things too: cover art file (like the one on homepage) and a legal disclaimer (not at home atm to check if already on game installation, then if it is, ignore).
-
Already started to work on the manual. As soon I have something more done i will post here to apreciation.
-
We should add pictures of the units in battle.

We should add pictures of the units in battle.
Bad idea.
If somebody wants to make a serious guide, they should have clear screenshots of the unit so as to not confuse people. This means having the unit in the shot out of combat and the all other units out of the picture.
-
A legit guide like the COH Instructions would just have the Unit Icon.

This too.
-
If someone was to give me some graphics help on a good program I could easily type a few things about each unit like the COH Instructions, infact my box with said instructions is sitting right infront of me.
Basically, behind each little page of units, in the backround is a large photo of a piece of equipment from the faction's heavy duty stuff. For example, Wehr has pictures of Tigers, Panthers, and Nebelweffers, and the Americans have pictures of 105s, Shermans, and M8s.
I can easily type things up, I just need someone to get me the icons and suggest a program I can do it on.
-
Im just learning how to use corsix mod to view stats. have you guys compiled stats for units yet I can help some and withenglish proofread
yay im sooo excited for a guide, one is long overdue
-

If y'all can provide stats I'll compile them in a spreadsheet for you.
-
No no, not like viewing stats.
I don't think some of your guys are getting the big picture.
This would be a guide that helps NEW Players to the Soviet (And Ostheer) and helps them understand what the buildings are for, and what the units are for, and what they can do, the weapons they carry, etc. I don't think new players are exactly looking for a spreadsheet of stats for units they don't even understand how to use in a correct manner yet ::)
It would be more of an instruction booklet/leaflet type thing, not a database :P

http://www.scribd.com/doc/2358213/COH-user-manual (http://www.scribd.com/doc/2358213/COH-user-manual)
This is the online version of the guide I'm talking about. It's the instruction booklet that was written before patches, so they mention Tiger Ace and don't called them "American" and "Wehrmacht", they just call it "Axis" and "Allies".
Of course, I'd be willing to go in a bit more detail, like cost and maybe how upgrades effect the unit, but the goal isn't to provide something too big or most people will be like "Too long didn't read"
Ingenery
(Insert Picture here)
Role: Building and Support
Weapons: 4 Mosin-Nagant Rifles
Upgrades: Sturmovie Ingenery (PPSH-41 and Body Armor)
Dual RoKs-3 Flamethrowers (Urban Doctrine Only)
Abilities: Cut Wire, Throw Satchel Charges, Build Defenses and Base Buildings
Ingenery are your all-around support units for the Red Army. They can build base structures, lay defensive structures like mines and sandbags, repair damaged vehicles and buildings, and make effective fighting units when upgraded with Sturmovie Ingenery. Their PPSH-41's give them devastating close range firepower.
___________________________________________________________________________
You'd have to include the number of rifles because from squad to squad it varies greatly, like conscripts VS strelky.
That is just an example of what one of such entries would look like. I'd also be willing to do American and Wehrmacht again too, to make the necessary changes, I just need to find a program to make said thing and someone to help me with the graphics look at such thing.
Anyone think they could help me out? I'd love to contribute like this ;D

EDIT: I saw Blackbishop posted most of the icons I would need, but if I could get infantry icons that would be great! Now I just need suggestions for a program to use. Thanks!

Heres some quick comparison/reference infromation and stats I pulled outta corsix since I just learned how to get all the infatry/tanks stats and stuff.
kinda cool to compare, easy to figure out If you cant figure it out for some reason ill explain it. We could merge this with garand/mosin/kar98k information as well to give a rough idea of how each different squad performs with accuracy resiliency reinforce cost and on the move :)
4Command Squad(infantry) + 1Major(heroic)
280 + 120 = 400hp
6Guards(elite) + 1Honor Guard(upgrade)
540hp + 90 = 630hp
7Strelky(infantry) [Red banner upgr.+25hp -1rifle]
315hp
8Conscripts(infantry)
320hp
4Tank Hunters(airborne) +1TH(vet2)
280hp +70 = 350hp
4Ingenery(infantry)
120hp
6Rangers(elite)
390hp
6Riflemen(infantry)
330hp
6Airborne(airborne)
420hp
3Engineer(infantry)
165hp
3Knights Cross(heroic)
270hp
4Stormtroopers(infantry) [vet2/3]
380hp [elite/456hp]
4Grenadiers(infantry) [vet2/3]
320hp [elite/384hp]
5Volksgrenadiers(infantry) [vet3]
300hp [360hp]
2Pioneer(infantry)
140hp
4Fallschirmjagers(soldier)
240hp
3Panzer Grenadiers(soldier) + 1Grenadier(upgrade)
165 + 55 = 220hp
5Luftwaffe(infantry)
275hp

While the comparisons are neat, I don't think adding HP is necessary.
-
perhaps for a second edition for more in depth strategy and once the beginners seek more information
to play competitively on a advanced level you need to know what beats what in which situations.
-
This would be a complete beginner's guide though, Should I start making the entries for the tanks? I still need a program to do this on :/
Paint.NET?
-
While the comparisons are neat, I don't think adding HP is necessary.
I find it quite handy and illustrative.
-
Yea, but too extensive, might confuse new people.
They want to play ASAP, not read an extensive list of stuff, so it will help them get in the game fast.
-
Just to notify that this project is going on.
I'm doing internal and cover arts on the same scope that CoH retail manual.
Asap I have an alpha version, I will post here.
Would be nice if any dev send me the already made front cover that we see on homepage. ::)
-
This?

-
Hadn't been working on it too much, though I have a lot of the text written, been busy and Serif Page Plus Basic only allows 5 pages at a time :'(
-
Yes. Thanks BurroDiablo ;)
-
What would be the good page length and width?
-
can I be sent the guide when finished to me by email? if u go on my profile u will find my Email
-
I'm sure we will post a link, check back you should be checking these forums regularly!
-
ok thank you! :D
