Title: yep, God of War
Post by: RedGuard on April 11, 2011, 06:35:03 AM
yeah I know you guys (mods devs) have probably been asked this a lot but whats the current story with God of War?

is it going to be tweaked so its useful, like PE sector arty but on an epic scale? the way it is now its just as likely to wipe your own army and base as it is to do nothing at all  :'(

I cannot say more about it but those who have used it in the internal beta agree that is way better now.

It's awesome now. It's not a completely random waste of space and is quite impressive.

Perun was the Russian god of War/thunder, 6 batteries of Katushkas  was Stalin's, (the soviet god of war), wwII take on this.
They don't call 'em the Stalin Organ for nothing.

RedCommisar do I have that right about Perun?

Yes comrade Perun was god of thunder lightning. much like thor in viking mythology except perun is higher up in comparable rank amongst his god piers.

And the phrase god of war is labelled to the ability because its one of Comrade Stalins quotes and military doctrine "Artillery is the God of War".

Yeah, but Perun is slovian/nordic god of thunder, while Stalin was a communist and I doubt the fact he believed in any kind of god.

correct in the true communist ideology religion is non existent

I dont think the ability was named after the slavic god, but after Comrade Stalins military doctrine. The named just applied to both in this situation comrade cephalos

visited upon them should be all the fury of the motherlands big guns incarnate! soviets did have the most dominating artillery barrages of the second world war (great patriotic war)

They had moar of them then anyone. But I think it's okay as it is. This massive arty bombardment is far enough. I'm not sure about damage dealt though, because I don't play propaganda so much. I rather blow stuff with 152mm ISU-152  8)

The katushkyas were rocket artillery and had a nasty spread. I playtested on Coh's N13 map. 3 batteries didn't kill all of armor at the traffic jam, but it ate up the ATG;s and pioniers repairing The
armor. Also they seemed very effective against buildings. Remember though fire and run.

Guys, a bit of a noobish question but what does this god of war actually do ! a sortha sector arty but all over the map ????

I see rain of shells falling all over the map but i see it dropping on MY units instead of the enemy :P
plus it seems to follow my units everywhere i am battling on the map.

It covers about half a small and medium map, quarter of a large(Just an estimate). They intention it to be super duper arty shooting all over the place, but didn't work as thought. I seen it follow my guys too.  :(

If you fire it anywhere try and make it behind enemy lines, preferably on their base.
