Title: Smoke from handgrenades?
Post by: Sommarkatze on May 18, 2011, 12:31:18 AM
In some movies and games. For exampel Day of defeat source. When you have pulled the sprint off and throw the handgrenade away. There is smoke coming from it like it had a fuse firing.

Is this just something movie/games had come up with to make it look cooler or something or do real (or at least old ones) handgrenades have it this way?

Or like it probaly is. Some handgrenades have it that way and others dont?

Not that i would know, but it doesn't sound right to me for smoke to come out of a frag grenade. :-\

He's talking about a fuse, which sounds more like dynamite than a grenade.  ;)

No, it aint dynamites XD

Here is a example.

DOD: S Grenade Tricks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75wrc8lRvJg#)

Yes I know he is firing rifle grenades. But the effect is the same. There is smoke coming from the grenade. And thats the question ^^

Yes, i know. ;)

I would assume it's something that games add to make it more visible, like the smoke trail that sniper rifles often have.

The same reason why everything seems to fire tracers; so players can see it.

My assumption is that they might have produced smoke back when they were first invented (Don't know what they were like back then.), but a modern (or W.W.II) grenade producing smoke really doesn't sound right to me.

The "normal" riflegrenades exploded when they hit anything. In DoD:S it's just for better balance that they have a delay of the explosion and the smoke that you see it better.

Really? :o I thought exploding on contact was just something the Company Of Heroes Riflegrenades do for some reason. ???

Call Of Duty ones do too IIRC.
