They are working on it. Idk if it will be out with ostheer.

Although a tutorial would be nice when they make the campaigns, it's really not necessary at the moment, because most people have just learned to play from skirmish/multiplayer.

..but it would fit in the concept of EF, making the mod everything as Reliccy as possible :P

I suppose, but remember that there is no Wehrmacht tutorial. ;)

You are right, because the Allies tutorial was just a kind of preparation for the campaign. And remember, there is no real German campaign except of this crappy TOV stuff..
I would like to see a Soviet tut. :)

Well, Operation Market Garden was alright. I think better than the Tales Of Valor campaigns.

But OMG is a PE campaign. I mean a Wehrmacht campaign. And those of TOV are no concurrence for IoN/OF ones.

500 - Major  :D

CoH:O had a Wehr tutorial. It was actually pretty cool. Maybe someone can find a way to add it in the future but it will not be our devs I think.

You mean the ingame tutorial?
If so, I see no reason, why it should not be added... unless it's too difficult technically.

It should be like the first CoD2 level in the freezing Moscovite winter. Potato grenades away!

...I think, it should just be a TUTORIAL, that's about all.

Which was exactly what the level was. Where the Germans interrupt a training of Soviet recruits and you need to stop a minor attack.

Maybe it isn't a good idea, seeing as how that takes place in 1942, correct? So upgrades like the T-34/85 wouldn't be possible if staying historically accurate.
Title: Re: russian tutorial
Post by: pariah on May 22, 2011, 03:30:35 PM
Given relics priority of a fun and balanced game over historical accuracy, i don't think it's that important. Although if the devs want be more historically accurate (Which i think they do.), i'm certainly not against it.

As far, as I could grasp, GodLikeDennis was talking about wehrmaht tutorial.
If that is correct, than it should be against US, since these two are originally made to counter one another.

the american and wehrmacht tutorial levels were basically the same until the very end where they explain how each faction techs up, Eastern Front could simply have the same idea, to explain how the Soviets and the future Ostheer tech up.
The same last tutorial level also introduced you to some units and let you fight the AI by taking out its base or winning by VP (the AI would never leave the main base sector), this also introduced the player by letting him know how to win a match, something the vCoH tutorial explains in a much higher detail through multiple levels.

I remember the start of the Wehr tutorial begins with your panzer group being bombarded by artillery. Only one tank survives and you use this as your "click to select unit, right click to move it" kind of tutorial unit. I though it was the best tutorial I've seen in a game yet. It was pretty engaging.

PS. It's not like I needed to do the tutorials but you get to level 6 straight away and get some free items in CoH:O.

My only problem for tutorial is: What new gameplay that Eastern Front bring? :-\
I mean, British tutorial is focusing about lieutenant (and only about its movement bonus), British defensive nature, and mobile base
PE has lockdown, unique veterancy, and munition halftrack

So what Soviet has that actually different? ???
Yes it has different tech tree, but both British and PE tutorial don't bother to explain their tech tree
Soviet securing point is similar with USA, so it won't count
And its veterancy also similar (with only Command Squad Global bonus that differentiate)

The only thing I can think is Command Squad and Ammo usage
So, shall there be a tutorial, what will be included in it? ???

That's why you shouldn't bother with OF extension - it sucks (except for adding PE faction, IMO).
I think, you should rather take the first game as an example. Focus on special abilities, like brake suppression of CS, strelky charges, munition-free nades, munition upkeep, overall importance of armory upgrades, since these virtually create new units/significantly change existing ones, etc.
Title: Re: russian tutorial

Managing the armoury effectively is the most important aspect of playing Soviets over the other factions.

Here's an idea: Maybe when they start doing Eastern Front shoutcasts, they could dedicate 1 game to teaching n00bs how the Soviet army works, as well as some good strategies?

+1 and im still learning you can never know too much :)

the armoury would be cake if it retro-fitted troops, armoury upgrades are a key component to maximizing any build

I remember that somebody made a comic about forum users who were being shown how to play PvP ( featuring Zerstrorer, Seeme and other lads)... soooo what about using it  ::)

It was that Yauz guy, I think.
Any possible comics is, however, as far from any actual tutorial, as a BB-gun is from a bolt-action rifle.

It was pretty engaging.

PS. It's not like I needed to do the tutorials but you get to level 6 straight away and get some free items in CoH:O.

I still remember the tutorials like it was yesterday:
The very first level starts off in the middle of the fight, you are then ordered to attack their artillery and tell you to take the tank (Sherman/Panzer IV), unfortunately the tank dies and you take control of the lone squad (Rifleman/Grenadier) (before this part, it is only a cutscene), in this section you learn about controlling the camera, the squad and cover types.
After this you meet up with another Rifleman/Volk squad being suppressed by an MG, you get told how to use grenades, after this small section you get told about destructible bridges (it blows up before you get across it) and finding alternate pathing, aswell as dealing with MGs, the rest is a bit of a regular fight, including being told how to pick up items (bazooka/panzershreck) and fighting vehicles and artillery, in the end you are told how to take and defend the victory point, it is here, during the 2nd wave that you get control of a Sherman/Panzer IV, and in the final wave you get an ability to help you.

The very first tutorial level of CoHo provided the true basics of playing Company of Heroes and usual RTS, the rest of the tutorials provide a more in-depth explanation that you find in the regular vCoH tutorials, with the exception of the final level where you are told how the faction you chose techs up.  :)

Both factions in Eastern Front (Soviet and Ostheer) seem to tech up differently from their counterparts, so maybe the tutorial should be about that + unique factors like the mixed veterancy of the Soviets (regular for most and shared w/ the Command Squad, and the offensive/defensive bonuses it gives).

Sure, we will need to get voice actors for the units and characters, of course. ;)

Now, raise your hand if you have a sexy Russian or German accent with much manliness! :D

Does he have a thick accent? It's not necessarily necessary, but i think it's important, to fit with the theme.

Maybe you could have a command squad moving around in front of a Russian HQ while conscripts run around, train, etc.

I'll do the tutorial voiceover, but only if it's entirely in cockney rhyming slang.

"Afternoon me ol' china. Here's 'ow we make dem German Bacardis brown bread good an' proper, by makin' sure our toys 'ave got the best son in their ivories!"

That symbol means 'less than'. When it goes the other way, it means 'greater than'. So that simply means 2 or less.

Not at all :P In any case I wouldn't be applicable for it I would sound like an Axis xD

Less then 2 like Pariah said

Mathematically It's any number less than 3. Doesn't have to be an integer.

On forums, it means either heart or dick & balls, depending on the rest of the sentence of course.
Title: Re: russian tutorial

Context is important.

I can't wait for the new HP movie. I <3 Harry Potter.

Hummels take up too much pop in a 1v1. You have to have <3 or you have no space left for normal units.

Die trolls!@!!! Suck my <3!

We're going a little off-topic.

I see no reason not to use proper English...

Eastern Front devs, please don't use this bullshit English in your tutorial! No matter how much you want to attract lazy n00bs! :P
