Title: Request: Moscow
Post by: Paladin88 on June 08, 2011, 01:21:55 PM
I know the Germans never made it to Moscow but could you please try and design a map for it?

I would really like to see it, you know, just for fun!

Two?? There's just one, Moscow (2) with that wet ditch in the middle.
I don't think it's really necessary to have a second moscow map in, there are some more interesting battles in late war ;)

Or even a East Berlin - West Berlin map. Attack through the checkpoints.

I planned to make a map of my hometown. Very nice city and castle, but there werent much fighting (Town surrendered when americans bombarded it from the surrounding hills).

I plan to make a map of my hometown, so i can drop artillery on my school. Erm... Pretend you didn't read that...

How about an 'Edge Of Moscow' map of some sort? That would be a little more historically accurate.

Or even "Moscow Outskirts" to make it shorter.

I did a map of my hometown once (well, it was just the forest and the former military base in it, used by British occupying force and later on the Bundeswehr behind my house).
It was pretty shit though because I did it when I was kind of unexperienced in mapping.. Time to redo it :P

I wish I could make a map of my hometown.

But it's barely a town in the first place with tons of woodland and hills. And in the middle of nowhere, USA.

But I agree, a proper Moscow map would be great, with Red Square and the Kremlin.

What's wrong with woodland and hills?

What's wrong with woodland and hills?
Sure, but we have many huge hills here. Not a lot of sturdy terrain to fight on.

Two German attempts to take Moscow. Plus one hypothetical without the three defensive lines to consider the "what if Guderian had not been side tracked to Kiev". Maybe even a mud scenario.  :) I think a lot of interest and potential is here. The same could probably be said for a Rostov map.
As people keep saying its a game. As for historicity in EF maps Leningrad?  ;)

Actually Leningrad saw some combat on it's streets.

We have something in common!

How easy would it be to put in St. Basil's Cathedral? You guys have the Reichstag, it'd only make sense to make the Soviet capital now.

And is somebody thinking what I'm thinking? It has nothing to do with EF, but how about a "What If" Operation Sea Lion map in London?

...Why? The Germans didn't even get that far!

Maybe. Interesting What If? scenarios are fun. We know the Dev Team plans campaigns for each faction after Ostheer is complete. It would be much more satisfying to have an on to Moscow, London, Cairo scenario at the end of an otherwise successful Axis campaign.

Not a whole lot is actually historic still in the mod, I can't see a reason for no Kremlin.

Cairo...maybe if this were an African Theater mod. Rome, perhaps? The Axis Italians weren't a player by the time the allies reached Rome, they had surrendered after Sicily. So no need for an Italian faction, though I'd like to see one in a mod anyway.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be a Kremlin - Just saying that it wouldn't make sense. ;)

I'd rather focus on remaking/creating a new Moscow and Leningrad... it doesn't mean I don't like those maps, but seriously, Moscow... 1v1?...
Title: Re: Request: Moscow

I think Leningrad needs remaking more than Moscow.

Rome was never attacked nor bombed due to historical value of the city as it was the stronghold of one of the most powerful empires for over 1000 years. That agreement was between Italians/allies, not to bomb that city, rather it would be surrendered.

IIRC the Allies Marched into Rome on 6/5/44; the night that the Paras dropped in on Rommel's wife's birthday party. Speaking of open cities I wonder what the L.O.S. of a sniper would be from the Eiffel Tower. BTW the On to Cairo/London was not intended for EF at all. I view them as reward scenarios for completing putative DAK/1940 canpaigns. Think positive says I.

Q. OT why does a molotov thrown at the base of the Riechstag fry the pionieres on the ground and the conscripts on the roof?

Allies marched into Rome but no fighting occurred. The city was surrendered and handed over to preserve the artifacts.

But maybe create a scenario about if the Germans set up themselves for a fight over Rome.

Also, what is this I hear about DAK in EF?

No my friend. You will not see DAK in EF. I get these fantasies sometimes. But every attempt I am aware of to do DAK has ended on the rocks. Sorry to mislead you.

Shame. Africa is an interesting front, really. I wish people had the dedication and skill of the EF crew to make an Africa mod succesful and possible.

Maybe you could put a 'semi-offical' list of maps in your mod? Like if a map isn't historically accurate, but is really good, you can include it anyway.
