Title: Sherman smoke
Post by: pariah on July 12, 2011, 05:02:37 PM
In Company Of Heroes when you deploy the Defensive Smoke, it just seems to fire upwards from the turret and then explode. Not very realistic. How did that work in real life? Anybody know?

The smoke launchers from the Tiger Ace campaign fire differently.

He says the smoke firing animation on the Sherman shows the turret firing upward and then the smoke is released around the tank instead of dedicated smoke launchers.

I guess any tank, by their very nature, would use up a great deal of fuel anyway, wouldn't they?

The Red Ball Express (a huge "army" of trucks) was used to keep the tanks running. It was a massive operation. Tanks do indeed use up a lot of fuel i guess about 100 liters per ten klicks

The Abrams sprays fuel on a heated surface to create its smoke countermeasures. Banned in Afghanistan though. The use JP to fuel the tank for logistical reasons.
