Title: Cell Phones
Post by: Cranialwizard on July 21, 2011, 09:37:25 PM
Hey Forum,

My current phone of 3 years is breaking down on me, practically on it's last leg and I really need a new one. I believe I can afford a new data plan and a decently priced phone so I am looking at some of the newer phones like the Droid X2 and the iPhone 4. I could use a iPod too which comes with the iPhone but on the same token the Droid seems more customizable and has more features. The iPhone also looks as if it can multitask which I don't think the droid can do very well.

Well, does anyone out there have any suggestions or recommendations? The iPhone 4 or the Droid X2 both cost the same amount of money for me.

If you can't think of any recommendations, which would you prefer? The iPhone or the Droid?

Well with a 2yr contract and a due-for-upgrade discount the price is really a steal so I'm seriously considering it, but if were ever to get damaged beyond repair I would have no way to replace it.

I have one of those LG EnvYs...ugh

My friend has an HTC Desire HD (android) that he swears is awesome. I have an HTC Mozart. WP7 isn't as good as android/iPhone yet but I like it still.

I hadn't really looked at the Mozart or the Desire, I dunno if they are the same price as the other two or cheaper but it can't hurt to look. Thanks :D

My old cell phone (Nokia N65) had the same problem of Maxi, people spoke to me but I wasn't able to hear them and I had to activate the speakerphone for hear normally. :-\

Last week I've bought this:
http://www.samsung.com/it/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/smartphones/GT-S5250HKAPRO/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail (http://www.samsung.com/it/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/smartphones/GT-S5250HKAPRO/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail)

It's a good phone at a good price.

But if you want something similar at IPhone, try to take a look at this (It's the model next mine):

Hi guys!
I need all your tech expertise now. Simple reason: Two weeks ago, I lost my old cell phone in a dark, dark night somewhere in front of a club :-X
Now I need a new one. I still have an old one however but I don't plan to keep it a lifetime.
This is what I search for:
- Smartphone
- Decent camera
- WLAN
- Music player
- Browser + Youtube + Facebook access
- Not too expensive <400€/500$
Preferably it should be without Sim lock as I am going to put a prepaid SIM in it.
It would be nice if you have some advices for me :)

Best regards,
Maxi

P.S.: Typing this on my iPod which I am going to sell most likely. :P

A rocket launcher would come in quite handy, doubtlessly :P

My first mobile phone featured an orange-black display.. ;D

Any suggestions though?

If you're adaptable and liked your iPod, I would go with the iPhone 4S. It's a great phone, what I use, and I shouldn't be above 400€ (Got mine for 150$ with a monthly plan). It's quite fast, has excellent service and signal pickup, I use it more like a multitool rather than just a phone! Capable with video chats, Google +, Twitter, Facebook, browser all kinds of fun stuff. Has wifi access too, and a great camera.

Not sure if it can be prepaid for or with a SIM Card. When I was searching for a phone I was mainly comparing iPhone 4 VS Droid X2. Essentially they are extremely similar phones, boils down to how customizable and user friendly you like your phone to be. I like the apple's way of wireless syncing instead of Droids and my 4S impresses me with iTunes usage. I can buy music on my phone and it downloads to my computer. (Buying apps and music is easy, you just need a gift card...you can pick them up anywhere in the US, not sure about Germany :/)

If the iPhone doesn't solve all your needs I'd look at Droid series, particularlly the X2 for a budget sense or Bionic/other new models for more tech options :)

In any case I hope you have good luck hunting for a phone. Buy an Otterbox/Extremely Protective case for your phone...dropping them can be expensive cost.

Hope this helps:)

PS I type this on my phone, I have notifications for EF linked to my phone and get my mail on my phone too! So I get to see when people post and then post via browser :)

EDIT: I also used Deserts' recommendations, though I found a good deal on the iPhone that I couldn't just seem to beat anywhere else. Maybe it has to do with the service provider's deals but the links above seemed to be very reliable phones as well. Just brush up on your italian :)
