Title: Ostheer
Post by: totte1015 on July 23, 2011, 09:08:34 PM
Should that update be released by now?
Title: Re: Ostheer

There are some behind-the-scene problems that delay the updates release. It should be out before the 29th though.

Yes, animations are the most difficult thing for our Team, and as currently Tiger is helping us to animate stuff but he's busy in RL. Hartkeks doesn't have time to animate our stuff for now AFAIK.

I know a lot of the donators will be pissed, but I doubt it's a good idea to give them the OH before other people. First of all, they'll have more time to get used to it and have an unfair advantage. And also they'll get bored of it sooner.

Not that OH and Soviets are boring, just the community dies down awhile after the update. I don't think the Community should be divided into Donators and Regulars. But the Devs need the money for the site.

Yes, they might deserve a beta, but the finished product should be released to everybody at the same time. At least the Soviets are incredibly different now compared to 1.0 (where they were well in beta stage)

But really you can't donate out of the good of heart or because this is an awesome mod?
Title: Re: Ostheer
Post by: BurroDiablo on July 25, 2011, 04:29:02 AM
We will only release the Ostheer to the public when we are fully satisfied as well as our balance team. We all witnessed the farce of the Soviet release, we do not wish to repeat it by releasing prematurely.
The Ostheer will go through a private (invited) Beta Stage before it's release, probably a cross-section of dedicated people in the community (unlike the group of 'experts' we had over from GR to balance the Soviets). People will have their chance to be a part of it... obviously, the majority of donors have a guaranteed space on the beta test team but I'm sure we will try to make room for others who haven't donated but are well established members of the community ;)

I got confused and somehow had the idea that the balanced and functioning OH would come to Donators before Regulars. Good to know everybody will get release status OH simultaneously.

Just to clear the air a bit more, Burro already post a general rundown. This is probably (in a bit more detailed steps) how it will occur. Subject to change!

* Current - Working on content, only devs have access to Ostheer ("Pre-Alpha")
* We feel that Ostheer is finished enough to do balance tests, lot of art is missing but all or almost all abilities/upgrades/veterancy should be in - balance testers are invited leave their balance feedback and general feedback. ("Alpha")
* Most/All arts is finished, Ostheer is still unbalance, bugs here and there - selected community members and donors valid for Ostheer Beta are invited. ("Closed Beta")
* No Bugs, Balanced and Ostheer is generally in a finished state - Release to everyone at the same time. ("Gold")

Donors will be able to Pre-Load the release (aka. Download the update but can't play until release), so in reality can start playing 10~60 mins earlier depending on download speeds. If you were be able to download 1~2 GB/s, you would be able to play really at the same time as the pre-loaders. Pre-loading is commonly found on Online Retails such as Steam for big upcoming games (such as Homefront, BFBC2 etc).

Basically the installer and/or game files will be encrypted (aka unusable), you will need a password or something like that to unlock to files.

To be frank, 1.XX balance was horrible, especially up to like 1.6 or so (1.71 was the last patch before OF IIRC). People just *think* when looking back, that is was balanced. You remember the fun stuff right? Not your balance concerns*.

*does not apply to EF 1.00!

Infact it was almost the same.

Same MG, Sniper, Main Inf, buildings, 2 Super tanks.

I think what Relic tried to do is try not to make another US or Wher fraction, but to shake things up. In a way they failed.

Such is the nature of having so many factions (without going Age Of Empires-style) i'm afraid. Americans and Wehrmacht were pretty good, but the Axis was still a little overpowered then. Then adding Panzer Elite (very good and versatile infantry and vehicles) and British (yeah...) only widened the gap. :'( Maybe we should make Ostheer dreadfully underpowered to compensate. ;D

I also thought of what will happen when Ostheer is released. In a teamgame, let's say a classical 2v2, the Axis side would go down because both players would most likely be like "who Ostheer is out I wanna try it first" and noone would play Wehr or PE in the first few hours. At least in my imagination  :P

But my first game will be PvP, because of the fun you have, playing together with/against other people, especially other community members, can't be reached by lame compstomping.
I have to agree with you though. To get used to the Ostheer, it's better to play some compstomps.

Maxi, when OH will be released, i probably will play skirmishes to learn how them play. Later will try PvsP.

I noticed that to find USA or CW(not RMC) is very hard, most players want play as SU. Similarly will be with axis. Everyone will play as OH, but there is more axis fanboys, so to see WH or PE will be more easy than USA and CW. That's my opinion. And i remember Jan 19, 2010 and how hard was to find axis players ;D.

And let me tell you this Fish, I've seen some Live Ostheer footage personally, its quite close to completion, however, there are somethings that still need to be animated, some Vet issues to fix, a couple of small features that need to be agreed upon and last but not least thoroughly and quite menacingly beta tested. Yea anyway I've said quite a bit already, most which is stuff I shouldn't really know about (Thanks Ri.... :P)

Does that include the problem with the Marder 2 not having its AP rounds Picture nor function working after Gunner Vet 2?

Well thats just great to hear, soon comrades the Donators will help with Ostheer testing. Starting to wish I was better at this game than I currently am. "Sigh"

Because people are lazy...... The build I saw was in Late August and all that was stuff done pretty much at the start of this year from what I had been told, so ya.

I wouldn't call it lazy. People have real life issues that get in the way. I run two jobs and school and I only get to balance relatively 1 or even 2 days a week during the regular year. Needless to say other devs and admins have work and school as well. I'd call it far from lazy it's just lack of time, infact most of the time I post from my phone on the forums because I'm on the move.

very true. some ppl fail to recognize that modders are not full time game devs that get paid for wat they do.the only inspiration for working is love for the game and not money.Ive seen many ppl get inpatient and upset over mods because of dev members not working to "their standard apparently ??? "Modders are true heros to the gaming community and should be thanked for even having the courage to take on a responsibility while still having to deal with other real life problems. I salute U DEV team and all your hard work :)
