A railroad system on certain maps (mainly large maps) would work for any faction. Could use the train cars to get on/off and have the train run on a timed loop. It could also be destroyed. Just an idea.
-
Honestly that sounds cool ;D. Straetegic railroads could get troops to whrere they need to go and could be blown up :P
But its probably not going to be implemented b/c it changes core gameplay :'(.

Idea like idea.
But have you ever seen railroad unit in CoH (not static object)? I don't know also that it is possible to put it to CoH engine. So right now it won't happen.
-
Would it be possible to re-skin..lets say a jeep..and link em on a set course. the tracks could be added later.
-
I think that would be hard to animate :-\ ???. Also I dont think there is a train model yet and having 6 rifleman on one jeep looks.....weird?
-
It wouldn't have to be a jeep. I guess I am just asking if it would be possible to link together multiple units on a path, with graphics for tracks added later.
Also, it wouldn't have to disrupt core gameplay, if it could be implemented in a future beta. would be nice to play with.
-
With scar it would be possible actually. I think Joint Ops used it once but not as a "transport".
-
would be very interesting.
"get to the station the last train is about to leave and the enemy are approaching, aaaggghh tiger!"
-
The train thing could be a map function on a specific map. Like those maps that have other game-modes.
Won't work?
-
This would be intresting to see, I assume this train will be neutral? But may be took over by any faction and then used as troop transports along the rail?
-
please don't drift out to men of war... ::)
-
Tbh I haven't played Men of War, it reminded me of a mission on C&C Generals
-
USA mission on Generals ::)
Would be cool to have a special train map
-
I think it might not be implemented. Like the mortar bunker on Minsk I never got to try >:(. It was special bunker that was removed for those of you that don't know.
-
If this is implemented in EF, it will be on a new gametype, similar to Angoville challenge and not in any normal map.
-
New map: Railroad challenge. Control all 5 stations :D
-
Ofcourse it would be a special map. LoL, not all maps have railroads, and if you could build railroads in CoH with the engineers xD haha, that would just be too crazy.
But yeah, instead of normal VP's you could have Vp's at the railroad segments, where controlling the railroad is key to victory.
=) ... The player with most VP's can board the train and choose it to move or halt by clicking on it. If it moves all units in the station will enter the train. And will be able to leave at the next station.
It's fast transportation but it can be blown up by AT weapons and mines along the track.
-
This sounds like a neat idea. I really do love it, I have a certain affection for railroads, infact I live not 15 meters from a rail track.
The only issues is that it destroys core mechanisms in the game and thus can not and will not be included in PVP matches.
That being said there is nothing stopping Walki and Rizz from coming up with an evil plot to make a railroad challenge :)
-
Now we can reinact battles with railroad. Hooray! :D. Like the scene from enemy at the gates :P

+1
I would even think of an SP mission where you arrive with a train, e.g. on the way to Stalingrad, you have to move your troups down to the Wolga, then a cutscene shows how you cross the river by boat (a modified barge can be used here), then you start to fight the Germans.
On the other hand, it could work as a supply train in a German mission where the train is constantly attacked by Partisans and some light guns, you have to defend the train with some light equipment (Infantry guns, Landsers, MG-34s,...).
It wouldn't even be hard to animate that. Just let the weels turn. Well, the steam locomotive may be hard to animate, but it would pay off definitely.
If I think about these ideas, it would add a unique atmosphere to SP missions.
Just to give my opinion.
-
i want a Panzerzug (armoured train). A new model has to be made animated and skinned. But it would be awesome. These trains were crucial to secure the supply of german troops.
fast forward to 2:10

AHHHH!! I cant understand what they are saying! Someone translate 2:10 :P

TELL THE MAP MAKERS!

TELL THE MAP MAKERS!
What exactly do you want to tell
us? :)
-
Make a map with railroads. Where the concept is to have trains running on the tracks. Then make or get someone to make a challenge out of it where trains runs on the tracks and are a key to gameplay.
:D
-
80cm Railway guns could be added to the list...for Germans at least.
-
Guys making this would take a lot of time cause you need to check every single railroad part if it is destroyed or still intact and I don't think the CoH Engine is done for such things.

No railway guns in EF IIRC.

Than the train can only drive in the beginning of the mission and then stops.
Soldiers arrive at the front (ingame clip) than you take control.
-
Soviet campaign could include such a mission where you arrive by train!

This is what I said some posts above.
-
Well i agree with you ;)
-
i think soviets used armored trains too if i remember right, though getting such things in game or anything multiturreted would be a long shot
-
tiger205 did animate a multiturreted tank. ehhhm he did at least 2 tanks with multiturrets
-
IIRC Darbladecr also animated multiturreted tanks for the upcomming WW1 mod.
-
Anyone that's ever played JointOps mod for Company of Heroes probably knows the level "Liberation", where you have to assault a town with something like 20 88s, shitload of mines, and about 450 pop worth of panthers and other crap with nothing more then a few rifles and a sherman or two.
Anyways, "reinforcements" arrive by railroad--a train pulls up and squads of infantry pop out. The train isnt its own entity, merely an animation put over a spawn thats right next to a railcar.
I think it would be easy to slap the map object over a unit, or even just create a new entity. You can also have it put on a fixed path and run it in a ring around the map or whatever, just put the tracks in later. This would make a great addition to a gamemode that involved the russians attacking X german outpost--the Soviet level "Ring of Steel" in Call of Duty: World at War comes to mind...
-
Whenever I see trains in COH I always think of the drivable trains in Blitzkrieg.
I would love to see something similar in the EF mod.
-
sry if this was added above but maybe roos would work they are like trains eny hoo :)

roos are an abomination along with bergtigers.
-
actually, there's moving train. in Joint Ops or European Assault mod.
-
I do like this idea very much, Its just implementing it may be a problem.
The Soviet Union used armoured trains to a great degree during World War 2 having them fill various roles such as Troop Transports, Anti-Tank rail road car, Anti-Aircraft rail road car, Command Centre etc...
There were also two types of trains Armoured and Unarmoured.
Armoured usually involved armour plating and a large portion of defensive weapons, AT, AA, HMG.
Unarmoured were usually used to transport Vehicles and Ammunition
The Germans and Polish also used trains during WW2.

Krupp K5 A.K.A German leopold Gun anyone?

Krupp K5 A.K.A German leopold Gun anyone?
Too big for a CoH map, the min range of it would be out of the map I guess to get realistic firing degrees.
