Title: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Post by: HyperSniper999 on September 14, 2011, 01:58:17 AM
For all the Eastern Front history buffs here I'm surprised this hasn't gotten a thread.

Has anybody played the game yet? Supposedly it has a German SP campaign. Impossible! :P

it is not a real campaign
it is few loosely connected missions with bots instead of players
as usual they promised too much :D

Have only played a couple of hours on the SP so far as I've been busy, but I've quite liked it. Very intense experience and interesting gunplay - don't like the way it forces you to have your class picked randomly every time you die though...kept getting anti-tank class on an infantry map  :P

The campaign is supposed to teach you the basics, not really tell a story.

IMO its just awesome, I just hate that if your team sucks you are quite fucked.

Apparently your German Commander (or at least the anouncer) is Voss, or his twin brother.

They have the same exact voice actor. When he first spoke I exclaimed, "Hey! It's that guy!" :P

Has anyone more information on the SP/campaign?
Not that I really count on something groundbreaking... ::)

The MP looks like a lot of fun, but am I the only one that thinks those animations when you see the Bots/Players running look shitty?

Thinking about buying it tomorrow. Played the first one pretty much like 2 years ago but it bugged me so much that the infantry closecombat were so.. clumsy and slow?

Heh, I am only buying it for the mkb42h rifle ;P

I've played few hours and I'm rather dissapointed. The entire 'RO2 will be thiiiiis awesome' campaign was false. It's like normal, maybe a little hardcore fps. Forgotten Hope 2 seems more challenging that this game. The only thing I liked much was tripod-mounted MG34 and shooting to advancing ruskies.
Title: Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Post by: Desert_Fox on September 23, 2011, 12:02:49 PM
RO2 (like the first one) it's totally based on the multiplayer experience.
The SP campaign it's only a surplus that Devs has implemented in the game, and it's only for learn to use the weapons and the squad Leader/Commander orders.

All the resources of the Devs, at 99.9% will be used for Multi, so don't excpect great things from SP.

It will be fixed soon enough, my only real problem with the game is that you can't de-attach the bayonet of a rifle, or deploy a MkB42 without a scope once you have unlocked it.

Hmm. Strange. I didnt get the drum mag ;S Do I have to get a special amount of lvls to get the upgrade maybe?

I have to say Iam a little disapointed. The first RO were really focusing on realism. They had many guns. Mostly because they existed . Some of them sucked just like IRL.

cough*!G41 *cough!*

That was sweet.
In RO2 there are some guns missing. Like the ppd40. I liked that one :o
Kind of sad ;/

You gain a new thing (usually) at level 25 and then at level 35 IIRC.  The DP-28 doesn't even get any upgrades (THE HELL MAN, GIVE IT SOME KIND OF INCREASED FIRE RATE OR SOMETHING). I would love to see a Bazooka for the AT specialist, as Lend-Lease provided plenty of those things. It would be nice to see a PPS-42 later on, even if it is one of the more prototype variants.

The PPD-40 was pretty much phased out of service by Stalingrad, and most of the men equipped with those things were the NKVD Border Troops not regular Infantry formations

Right and they have 100% percent proof that the MkB42 (H) was in Stalingrad. And the Battle of Stalingrad raged between 1942-43, they could have G43s their near the end

Were you ironic there Neosdark or not? (You never know on the internet XD) because I see people who claims it did see action in Stalingrad and those who says the opposite :o

Well the ppd40 maybe its okey. But what about an GERMAN anti tank rifles. Does existed for the time being ( dont remember the name sadly.) or the mp41 ( We had them in the first game <3) or hell, the ptrd 41 anti tank rifle?

Kind of bad of Tripwire. Why take away something good from the first game and dont have it in the sequel? ;C
Title: Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Post by: neosdark on October 01, 2011, 09:29:41 PM
I wasn't being ironic, I was being serious.

The MP-41 is nothing other than a MP40 with a wooden stock.

German AT rifles were all single round weapons, so a capture Soviet PTRS makes sense. However, the German Panzerbusche 39 and the PTRD would have been better choices, especially considering the PTRD was Vasily Zaytsev's weapon of choice (he had a Scope mounted on his PTRD) and both of these weapons were much more reliable than the PTRS.

As for the MkB42, I believe it served there because I love experimental weaponry, and the Germans believed in thorough field testing, which would lead me to believe that there were at least a few of them at Stalingrad. I just don't like the scope attachment to it, that's plain unrealistic. The MP43 had scope brackets, but the StG44 and MkB42 (H) (nor the MkB42 (W) for that matter) didn't not have them.

Then again they could (and probably will) add them at a later date.

He did indeed, but for wall penetration, particularly in Stalingrad, he employed a Scoped PTRD and a pair of Binocs

Yeah. IDK how they work but they either stay in the wall and burst in the other direction of the shooter (so it kills the target) or they explode once on the other side :P. It was on the History channel(cause I somehow always catch the military programs ;D) but its only experimental for now :P. I think it will be employed soon ???

Title: Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad

That sounds funny coming from you, Pauly, mayhap you have forgotten that blowing apart children was considered OK just 70 years ago. Things don't really change, its just the person who does it....

However of this dark topic and back to the game, at hand; there is one thing I have noticed in HoS, that being that our lovely AT weapons are useless against armor, so may I ask where do you try to aim. I tend to aim for the tracks, but I can never properly disable them, how many shots do you need to disable a tank's tread?

Owh great lord Thank you. I though I were the only one! The anti tank rifle works better as an semi sniper rifle or something.
I blow entire clips in the sides of both panzers and t34 but with no effect. When I fire at the tracks I see how they like flame up. But I dont know if they brake or are just damaged? :S

Kind of strange because I dont really use it much :S

Title: Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Post by: neosdark on November 20, 2011, 08:07:21 PM
Nahh not really, Red Orchestra won't die because people will always get bored of games like BF 3 and Mod 3 because they lose too often or they find that people get really nooby and then they go to games like this, because they offer a place for all people to play fairly, no perks, no mega ultra game changing upgrades (Thermals in both games, Silencers in both games, etc.) Yea they got the super powered MG34 with the nut-sack mag, but those things are few and far between, most people can't really get one cause there is only so many slots for all the classes. Its much more balanced in my eyes.

My only desire is a Panzerfaust or an early RpzB for AT classes, perhaps some Binocs for the sniper classes
Title: Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Post by: Pac-Fish on November 20, 2011, 11:25:00 PM
If Im correct, COD became semi unpopular b/c of "noob tubing". RO2 IMO wll be reasonably popular due to a desire to escape from things like perks and "noob tubing" and b/c RO2 is suppose to be more realistic :P. B/c when your a soldier there is not a hulking crosshair in your eyes that changes in size as you fire XD
Title: Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Post by: neosdark on November 21, 2011, 12:33:50 AM
Well no COD is losing Steam (see what I did there :P) because the game practically never changes. This is best exemplified by Mod 3. The game looks exactly the same as Mod 2, with somebody being so lazy that they reused buildings from CoD4 (sad). The game feels the same every time I play it, and it feels like they changed absolutely nothing from the last one. Not to mention half the perks being crap and half the guns being useless. They really go overboard and then make 1 gun that rules them all while the rest of us just st there. Not to mention that half of the guns don't really even belong in the game (ehrm the Model 1887, Chinese Type 95, FAD, need I continue).  Battlefield 3 offers more customization as well as other features such as command-able vehicles, suppression mechanics, light reflection, multiple ammo types, realistic upgrades (Heartbeat Sensor), etc. Only thing I would like in BF 3 would be the Hybrid Scope, and then have available for all Red Dot Sights, not just Holosights.

Red Orchestra is an FPS stripped to bare bones and thats why it works, not much crap to be found and less things can go wrong.

Skyrim is orgasmic as is Assassin's Creed Revalations. Modern Warfare you should really try out for yourself, you might like it. I hate new CoD games cause they get boring after about a week or so.

Title: Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Post by: Cranialwizard on November 21, 2011, 04:28:06 AM
CoD 4 and 5 looked pretty slick. MW2 was a bust, the campaign had so many gaps and holes in it that it just didn't make sense in the end. Russia invading the US over a massacre within 24 hours?! Didn't they take the time to look at video footage?! WTF was that? This also means that MW3 has a few holes in it's story as well as it's a continuation ( I didn't actually play MW3 yet)

I thought Black Ops was fun. Not sure why people really dislike it.

Title: Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Post by: neosdark on November 21, 2011, 11:43:59 PM
Black Ops had some balancing issues, as well as the fact that many awesome things from single player weren't in multiplayer (Dragon Breath Shells, Zipline Crossbow, regular Crossbow bolts, scope for Crossbow, 100% command-able helis, such things). Also the plot was total LUL WHAT material and half of it didn't even make sense. Plus most of the guns were from a completely different era and there were pretty much no missions in Nam (3 doesn't quite cut cut it for a game taking place during the Korean War). When I saw the FAMAS , G11 (which I had an orgasm over at first, my favorite post Vietnam gun), OTs-02 Kiparis, (1991 is a bit far from Nam I think (sure it was designed in the late 70s but thats still a tad late imo)) WA2000, CZ75, and the Valkyrie Missiles and that MiniGun thing from the Terminator.  So ya plenty of issues

Dont bother getting the Gaybox 360 now, I would rather go to Wal-Mart and get a $150 PS3 for 2 reasons;
R1) Its a better investment cause the bundle comes with 2 games IIRC
R2) If you really must get an Xbox then wait for the Xbox 720 to come out, I have heard tell of it making its appearance next year.

1) You are correct. Ps3, special controller IIRC and 2 games. Little big planet 2 special edition and some other werid game. But xbox 360 is $140
2) Are you serious?!?! They're coming out with xbox 720? I thought that was just a joke XD

Nahh its coming soon, they need to compete with the PS3 in hardware. People are beginning to notice the PS3 advanced capabilities and potential (especially newer model ones, I have an original 60 g model with backwards comparability so I have some lag issues and a couple of graphical problems with the particularly newer games but I don't quite care about that much), since most PS3 games use less than 50 % of its graphical potential. Uncharted series uses about 60-70% of the graphical capabilities of a PS3 and that is quite amazing (by comparison Modern Warfare 3 uses about 90% of the Xbox 360's processing power and graphical capabilities). So ya.....

Have the COD games ever have an eye for accuracy when it comes to history and such? I know the ww2 ones have?
Except world at war where there are Tiger2 wrecks in Stalingrad XD

The big red one was a pretty good game. You get to use Italian weapons, AA gun, and other things of fancy which was fun. And characters have a personality and fight in a group :P.

Yea it was a good game I consider that between CoD 1-3 because it came out before CoD 3 and it was quite literally Treyarch's crowning achievement . I still remember the mission where you lose Brooklyn that made me a sad Panda.

Every team member you lose makes you felt sadder and sadder :'(. I was upset when sargeant hawk left :P

How did you get past the snow level with the dragons teeth and the mgs? I just kept sniping them and then when that ran out I used the m1 garand and any weapons I could find. It was a little ridiculous. The minute you poke your head out u take mg fire  :'(
