Yeah that PSAT is a ass pain, and naa I'm only 16, though I have a beard so most people routinely mistake me for a guy in his early 20.

Probably because I tend not to use teenage slang and talk a bit more refined on the EF forums than I do on the Off Topic forums. Also the Stamp Collecting....

That. And also b/c under your avatar I thought that was 1955. Not 1995. Doesn't make sense XD. But that's what happened :P

Well I've just come back from the 2nd day of CC. It's okay but I think I like it better last year :'(. Not as much Star Wars stuff. More focus on anime and marvel :P.

Was there a Kingdom Hearts booth? I asked my friend if he can get me a key-chain from the KH booth if they had it again this year, but I'm not sure if it's there

They have a Square-Inc section (the brand) but I couldn't find it :-\. They also had various booths selling Kingdom Hearts stuff (like a life sized key blade ;D) but as for a specific section, I really don't know. Im going again 2day so I'll check 4 you neosdark ;)

Well neosdark I checked. They do have KH keychains but your friend would have to look around for it. There is no one specific KH section like last time, just a square inc. section for things like Final Fantasy XII. I asked my friend this that's why I know. She likes KH so I just asked where she got the keychan from ;)

I also found a SW section in the Conevntion which made this trip a lot better  ;D. I got to see the new toys that will be out soon and what they look like :P.

Depends on what you like, when i travel abroad I always try to get in some of the local culture and cuisine. Anyway If you were to stay in the city I would recommend going to Bryant Park down on 42nd Street. It not too far from Times Square, but far enough that you don't get all the total stupidity and endless noise. There are a ton of nice things around the park.

As for stores...... well I'm not too much of a shopper, so that I wouldn't really be able to tell you, I stay in Brooklyn more often than not, cause I truthfully hate the city, too many pricks and animals.

Times Square is too Touristy if you ask me.

Shopping districts...eh, you could check out 5th avenue in the 40's and down but that's mostly department stores.

Study the maps. Transportation is everywhere in New York. That said it's easy to get lost. Sometimes signs are not updated and you might be stepping on the wrong train in the wrong direction. (The F train confuses me the most, when it says uptown it means east into Queens and when it says downtown it means downtown then WEST then EAST into Brooklyn.

@Neosdark, Been to Rockaway?
Title: Re: New York Comic Con
Post by: neosdark on October 17, 2011, 01:16:00 AM
Nope never ever been there (you mean Far Rockaway, right?)

As for the F train, I pretty much grew up on that thing. Its the only train I take to get around Brooklyn and Manhattan other than the N train, so I sort of know it inside out. I hate the 5 and 6 trains because they go into Harlem and then the Bronx. Only one place in the Bronx I can stand and that's probably Marble Hill.

And I have to agree, way to many tourists at Times Square, that's why I prefer Bryant Park, its nicer, but not too far away, so it's still easy to get to, but just a bit quieter.

Off topic :) But yea I meant Far Rockaway. Very nice beach. Beat up community but definitely worth a ride on the A Train during the spring and summer my friend. The sand is clean and the ocean is clear. Nice city beach, better than Coney Island.

I use the 4-5-6 because I live on the east side when I live in manhattan. I used to take a R out to where my family's business was, near the Orange Hut there was a large supply yard that was in business for over 40 years but it was closed recently due to death in the family and drop in sale :(

Points of interest for me include the N and the Q. Get up the 59th and take it into Queens and you end up hitting a large pocket of my family.

The 1 is useful I find on the west side, more than the ACE but the ACE is good if you want direct walk to the Park.

The E is not a very good line out into Queens but it takes you to Jamaica so I find this moderately useful when visiting any family on the Island.

There's tons of ways to get around, you probably know, but those are the main highlights I use. The J and Z line I tend to think of as in desperate need of a re-route and new trains, maybe some more security as there's some muggings there once in a while.

Ehh sorry man I never stay in NY for the summers so I never go swimming on Coney Island or anywhere near NYC, I swim in Pennsylvania, Florida, and once in Japan (those hots springs were godly, so were the cute chicks :P)

@Sommarkatze: Well Im not sure what you like to buy but NY practicaly has everything (but manners :P JK) What do you like to by? Maybe we can help :P.

You could always try coming to Queens. The neighboorhood is pretty nice (depending on where you are) and its pretty diverse. Theres also a good amount of stores to check out :P

There are also alot of nice place to visit in NY. Theres the metropolitian museum of art, the Bronx Zoo, the Intrepid (a battleship), museum of natural history(which all little kids pratically go to ^^), and alot others I can't remember.

Just don't get lost :P. The MTA is always making changes to train service. Like when I was going to Comic Con I forgot the E train wasn't working :'(. Don't be afraid to ask for help for directions. Many New Yorkers are willing to help :D. Just make sure you can speak engish properly or they will sorta ignore you (from experience).

*Gasp* How did you find out stealthattack :o!?

(interrorgation lights) WHO SENT YOU >:(!?!? HOW DO YOU KNOW MY SECRETS! ;D

@Fishhunter My parents spoke broken English when they moved here and never had trouble :)

Its just that whenever someone comes on to the subways and they start speaking broken english (like you said), I've observered that people try to understand and help but ultimately they aren't able to and the guy (or girl) gets fustrated :P

Well I mean thats not all I got :-\. But yes, I didn't take as many pics of cosplayers :P. Partly b/c I didn't know what they were even supposed to be dressed as :P. Also I got a significant number of pics from last year. And the costumes don't change much :P. And b/c I just didn't feel like asking people to stop so I could take a photo. It takes a bit to get their pics :P

Woah, tanks for the help guys! I would like to go the the geeky stuff! Like games, models, military stuff, comics and random cool stuff! Second hand shops are great too! ( modern clothing sucks compared to old one!)

Help me out guys! ;D

You could go to an antique shop :P. But those places can get weird, especially if the owner starts following you around :P. But thats like almost every private owned store in NY.

IDK if your country (sweden right ???) has a toys'r'us. But there is a huge flagship(i think) toys'r'us in times square ;D. Geeky toys till the eye can see :D. There are also comic stores and toy stores all around NY that will sell nice stuff. Midtown comics(one of the places at comic con) has stores in NY so you can look for them.

It would help if we knew what general area you where staying at (ex: near central park. although if that were true get ready to get swarmed by zombie hobos ;D)

Ahh well I'm a super gamer and there are a couple of places I could tell you about here in Brooklyn. We have this place called Kings Games. The place has everything you can imagine from Russian Magic the Gathering Cards to Video games, Computer gaming/ Internet Cafe, WoW, Tourneys, etc.
We have another little place here close to where I live called Pinocchio's, its a card/comic book store. They specialize in Comics and Sports paraphernalia but they have pretty much anything collectable, the owners collect everything you can imagine.

Mililtaria? Well this is New York so the stuff is a tad harder to come by, for that you should go out of the city, Pennsylvania being my choice due to a ton of Veterans families there. However you should visit some Pawn Shops (Second Hand shops, if you prefer them to be so called, but more for valuables, than for clothes) they always have something. My friends and I once came across a German Hunting Rifle circa. 1780s for about $1200, but it was a beauty, so worth getting (why AM I SO POOR, oh wait I go to High School :P).

How did you get the rifle in NY :P? Got a permit? The ony place I can fire shit everywhere(I realize y choice of words is......strange)  is at the shooting range in NY. Don't remember location :P. Or I can just play with my nerf guns ;D
Title: Re: New York Comic Con
Post by: neosdark on October 19, 2011, 05:18:26 AM
Well its an antique since it is made before 1898 (or so, not too sure on date) so I don't need a permit to keep it, but to shot it I would need to bring it to a gun smith to make sure it is fire-able, then take it to a Black Powder authorized gun range (very few of those around) and shoot it there
