I've been playing COH/EF for some time now, but new to .org and forums. So if this topic has come up forgive me. Is it possible to be able to knock out tanks or vehicles in a different way? I'm not a fan of them being knocked out in the same amount of hits depending on the weapon and then they either explode or go out of control and explode...could there be a way to have a well placed shot start an ammo fire or engine fire, or just take out the crew? Then you can take it over like a fixed weapon. I'd love to see more immobilized hits, not just exploding tanks. Has this been brought up ever?

Welcome to EF.org.
Tank Hunter AT mines immobilise very often, even on full health tanks. Any further than that though, is too much about realism and would be bad for gameplay.
-
agreed. ive seen a lot of tanks damaged so much that they are immobilized, but as far as re-crewing tanks, the PE salvage is as far as you get.
-
Yea welcome batompson
Any changes to the standard gameplay in this mod will not be possible.
-
Thanks guys....I feel bad even suggesting since the mod is so much fun..but the explanations make sense.
-
Its immposible to recrew tanks in EF or vCOH. They always explode when they run out of health. I guess it for balance
Welcome anywho ;)
-
dont feel bad. it was a good question.

+1 The picture is only a joke BTW ;D
-
Hi! I'm new too ;D
But to your question, that seems difficult realistically to start (would airborne have tank training?)
The reverse however, people leaving the tanks, might be an idea. (in Stalingrad, Hitler ordered tank crews to stand in for infantry)

Wow. Never knew that happened :P
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalingrad_%28book%29
A good book, and where I got that from, sadly on the internet I cannot find a quote from said book...
I would recommend to all ;D
-
why would you pay more money for a tank, and then dessert it, when you could pay less for an infantry squad? sorry, but it doesn't sound very realistic.
-
There was no fuel left to put in the tanks. And some were FUBAR. They were fighting for fuel in the Caucasus region IIRC near Eygpt but failed so no fuel left for Hitler :P
-
i see the point realistically, but i was meaning in-game.
-
Say you desperately need infantry (like, really badly), or can't afford the upkeep and don't want to give him "free" doc points...
Maybe you simply have to retreat as many of your forces as possible, and the tank could be immobilized?
Maybe there are too many anti tank guns, and your sniper or MG is not close enough/retreating/dead/i rushed tanks and don't have any...
But you are right, it's not tactically smart (the Germans didn't win)
-
IDK about that but it would be fun if tanks with low health were knocked out -they would become world wrecks, like MGs but unrecrewable( is that even a word?)- it would seem aesthetically pleasing.

just like in Men of War. Awesome idea.
-
This may be not a EF thing but i lke the idea of takin the tank crew but after maybe there culd be a new type of unit lke tank driver which can take over tanks when the crew has been eliminated, that or
The bergetiger as everyone knws can brings ur takes back from the dead wat bout it can bring back enemy tanks back from the dead but on ur side i think this is a good idea but not sure if its a CoH or EF style

I do like the idea that the tank can be knocked out, I'm a sucker for eye candy I don't just like seeing wrecks I would also like to see "Knocked out tanks" I would also like to suggest that the crew abandon their tank much like the Jagdpanther although that was a bug I did like the idea of crew just bailing out, though of course this would have to be balanced by giving the Crew low damage or no weaponry as a tanky their is a low chance of them having small arms with them unless it was say a half track.
I would also like to see shells have a small chance of blowing up enemy tanks munitions inside making a nice boom and a bit of shrapnel flying about the place, so if it possible maybe give AT rounds a small chance of doing this like I said I'm a sucker for eye candy :p

I think it would be better for EF not to overstep its bounds.
-
Yeah, that can wait. First lets get our hands on the Ostheer.
-
The main problem with creating realistic tank combat in Company of Heroes, is that the engine doesn't support armor values like thickness and angle. That also results in guns not having real penetration power, but rather penetration modifiers against the different vehicle types ingame.
If you try to implent this as far as it's possible, things get all messy and extremely random. Definately not something EF is going to add.
Great question though!
-
I just think that knocked out tanks will look nice.

i agree with this.
however, re-crewing tanks imo is not a good idea.
-
If you can provide us with modified wreck models that don't look like a completely burned out wreck then we could think about this. However, we currently have enough models to make and redo.
-
But destoryed wrecks serve a tactical purpose too. Axis wrecks can be salvagd and regular wreck can be used as green cover. Using other tanks to destroy the wreck denies the enemy that cover. And sometimes AT guns and Tanks hit the wreck, acting as a shield (though not common enough to be considered a sound tactic :P)
-
I was just talking about making the vehicle uncontrollable when it reaches 1% health. No need for a new model.
-
It could still serve as cover etc and be repaired by the Berge Tiger from 1% health just look visually more appealing, if it could be implemented use a short series of code giving the vehicle a x% chance of becoming knocked out without being turned into a complete wreckage.

Yeah!
-
would it still be able to shoot?
-
With it being Knocked out no, if you were to disable its tracks it would be in working order but wouldn't be able to move so essentially its not knocked out its still operational.
A knocked out tank is useless just a bit of of eye candy to make things look good :p
-
Doesn't it take up pop cap ???
-
fish has a point.
-
How will it cost pop if you don't own it.
-
It would essentially be a destroyed tank just with a different look
-
well, if someone has the time, it sounds good, but i think all the devs are working on othseer. anyways, you can add it to the "get around to it" list.
-
Yeah its not a must so there's no rush to complete it and aye the Dev's are still busy with Ostheer.
But when/if implemented this would make the game more visually appealing.
-
I believe there is a "burning wreck" mod thats goal is tho leave. You guessed it. Visually appealing destroyed tanks and buring wrecks ;D
-
It would look nice when the Tiger Ace knocks out shermans, Don't you think?
