Title: Weekly Game Night
Post by: GodlikeDennis on December 25, 2011, 10:07:22 AM
Since 1.5 games are rather rare these days and with the 1.6 release looming, it might be best to assign a specific day where everyone can come online, chat through a specified channel, use mumble etc. to play some games. Please choose the day of the week it would best suit you to play a few games every week. We can make this a regular night. If this attracts a few people, we can eventually split it up into different brackets for different skill levels but for now everyone will be included together to get this thing rolling. You are allowed to change your vote if your availability shifts and you also get 2 votes, for first and second preference. I would like as many of the community to vote as possible.

Please also post to say your first and second preference, and possibly also your timezone.

Friday Night-Fight Night has a nice ring to it. Friday and Saturday seem to be some free days. Sunday is alright too but some can be interrupted with religious observation :P

Like every other attempt its good but comes at the wrong time. This should be made when the new patch is out along with tourneys and other stuff

Killar, this is just finding out the best time to do it. We will start this once the patch is out.

Even if the patch isnt out yet a potential early game night may give new players a chance to get better and grow accustomed to SU tactic b4 an official tourney comes out. Even if 1.6 does change essential things at least new players will be used to SU :P

I can play friday and saturday

Fridays and Saturdays for me too, so I can play after I get off work / school, but these days are just very loose estimates.

TBH though, I think the only way to solve the lack of quality games hosted is to do more publicity efforts and attract a significantly larger competitive player base.  Video games, including CoH, is a leisure activity, and people play (at least for me) when they get a chance to play, rather than having specified times / days to play.  Even on Fridays and Saturdays, its really hard to get into EF the specific time the matches occur, since everyone lives in different time zones, and things like RL activities come into play.

When the games are actually being hosted during Friday / Saturday for example, maybe some people cannot make it because of work, etc.  That just means they'll have to wait a whole week before being able to have a chance to play EF again.  That really sucks.  People want to access their game and be able to play it to the full extent whenever they want.

Do you suggest we do some advertisement on other websites Yauz?? We do have that money that we donated but I pretty sure that's for server pay only.

We need advertising on CoH fansites, we need the Ostheer, we need 1.6, and we need like 2-3 shoutcasts a week (to drill the fact into people's heads that EF is competitive) featuring competitive play on competitive EF maps, and we need it fast.  And we need to get rid of noob things like the RMC, revert the AI back to vCoH, and either fix or eliminate noob EF maps.  It all sounds drastic, and a lot of the devs will disagree with this, but this is the way to get things running again, and that's the truth..

To each man his own opinion Yauz I personally like the new AI whom I never fight anyway :P.

The RMC was unfortunately never a 100% solution to the problem that is the Brits, but it should remain for those who don't want to play as vBrits.

A noob map is a matter of opinion Yauz, you love maps that are pretty much mirror images of themselves for both sides, Kotlenikov (don't recall how to properly spell it in English) being your type of map, I just happen to like Prague and Vienna, I find them near perfectly balanced.

2-3 shoutcasts a week is something that the top players should produce, but there should also be a noob shoutcast for people like myself who aren't quite as skilled and who make mistakes to drill in the point that this mod is for everyone not just for the pros (which is what drove me away from EIR) but for people who are just starting out as well.

im good for EF Fridays!

anyways, i think yauz might be right about EF advertisements.

shoutcasts would be awsome too.

i dont think that we should eliminate noob maps however, its a funny thought, but i dont think it will make a difference on getting EF back into style.

i dont know what changes there were to the AI

@neosdark
What happens with RMC is that no one has balanced it until now. That's why you can say is worse balance-wise than CW.

Hopefully that will change soon.

I dont think RMC should necessarily be scraped, just changed :P

There are noob maps, yes, but I think the "Annihaltate No popcap" is worse. I still suggest we replace it with "VP No popcap". Yeah, still knida noobish but its more like a statlemate/concession rather than completely calling noob stompers undesireable yet leaving this anhialate option here :-\

2-3 shoutcast souds like alot and considering how there aren't that mant good players I would recommend having maybe 1 per week :P

And fridays and saturdays seem to be the best days :P

Yauz, the point is not to force people to play on this day but to provide a time when they know they can at least find a game every week. The biggest problem with EF right now is the declining regular population so finding games is hard. Maps and balance should be solved by 1.6. AI is good and can stay. RMC should be removed until we have at least balanced it decently.

We should start up the game nights as soon as possible so it is already established by the time we roll out 1.6 (soon). Everything will go smoother then and we can concentrate on invitational events and 1v1 tourneys.

Can anyone confirm if we can use the remains of the Donations for advertisement on CoH fan-sites or if its is reserved only for the server.
Title: Re: Weekly Game Night
Post by: Blackbishop on December 26, 2011, 05:14:23 AM
The donations are reserved for the server. However we have a small reserve for emergency, but I doubt we are going to spend it on advertisement.

I dont think advertisments would be that effective :-\. I think some people are aware of EF but they dont wanna play. I accidentially found this mod on COH wiki XD

Advertising, making tourneys, shoutcasts, ... BEFORE the patch is out will be a big fail like it was in the past. It will not save anything but destroy what is left

I would help with the shout-cast if we got the games, but right now there isn't much in the line of online matches, so I haven't done one yet. Maybe if i begin with a training video series to show new player (or players who are curious about the mod) how to play the Eastern front. That could help with getting more players. And i said Saturday and Sunday for the poll.

i highly recommend to broadcast EF games. I did this in the past and i got good feedback. If you look at SNF there are over 600 plp are watching. Meaning streams are highly frequented. There was even a russian guy who broadcasted BK mod games which got a constant viewer count of 20.

But if you broadcast pls only vs. humans and automatch conditions.

In what way? A regular game night is not dependent on the release of a patch at all. It would be beneficial to start it up early. A tournament requiring a patch is obviously something we won't repeat.

I wouldn´t start anything without a solid base. Current patch is not solid and we dissappointed many players already (fail tourney, bad balance, wrong promises, ...)

maybe if you ask nicely, then KrebsCOHO on youtube could maybe do a little advertising for ef. He has many viewers on his youtube channel. between 1500 and 4000 viewers per video I think. :)

Very nice idea. Best time for me is also Friday or Saturday. Btw, better move this thread to "Community Events and Tournaments"?

This thread was just for getting the times people are available. A proper thread should be made.

At the moment, we have three threads for discussing times to meet and to arrange matches (I want more PVP play in EF, couple of matches and this one). I agree to Dennis, we need a new, official thread for arranging games which will be stickied.
Title: Re: Weekly Game Night
Post by: Killar on January 05, 2012, 02:45:18 PM
I see. There is lack of communication to arrange games. We need some sort of ingame chat where people meet and can arrange games. Since not everybody is using mumble (or can´t do) we could use the launcher for it.
