Title: Buildings
Post by: Mattdamon07 on December 30, 2011, 07:45:05 AM
i think that there should be more civilian buildings like new appartments with new accessories. also maybe some new rubble debris objects and new ruin types. i have picture that shows some damaged appartment buidings. i would like that clock tower thing as an accessory too. :)

also maybe some other building suggestions also.

Its a distant goal... currently we have limited resources, such as modellers, skinners, animators, OE'ers and most importantly a person with the knowledge of how to construct a fully destructible building for CoH.

Well, I don't really see where's your problem. BSS has a group of modelers who made few totally new buildings and objects. Couldn't you just ask for help or try to cooperate?

Well, BSS is a professional Mod team and I don't think they will lend us a hand. Additionally, they work on a Modern Combat mod, so we can't lend models from the because they wouldn't fit. They have enough work as it is, so getting help from them is very unlikely.

I spoke to Darkblade about this a few months back, he said that they still had to figure out how to make the roof collapse, or words to that effect. Still, I didn't see anything to suggest they've hat it figured in the Shoutcast they released, if they did they would have surely shown it off (being a CoH modding first, I certainly would have). Currently what they have is an already semi-destroyed building model that can be garrisoned, we could do the same of course but that would mean buildings would just crumble when they reach a certain amount of health, like Bunkers, instead of the destruction being gradual.

Still, as Maxi said, BSS is a professional mod group and is unlikely to help, so this doesn't solve our lack of modellers, skinners, animators and OE'ers :P

Apparently, they made it:

that reichstag on the berlin maps have a custom made roof. you cant see it across the battlefield same with the brandenburg gate, i was wondering if anyone was up to making an actual roof maybe along with other parts of the reichstag itself.

I want the Reichstag to look like this i hope other agree with me. And also you dont need an animation for the building to collapse since its superstrong, just a little building damage and such.

the reichstag in berlin needs some work as you cant fill all the structures around it and the roof cant be walked on, {last time i checked}

Units in COH shouldn't be walking along roofs anyway. Only on the train station and the Warehouses of doom do units get on the roof.

Really big government building in Berlin

(to English it translates as "Diet of the Realm")

It's a bit like the German white house (or the New Zealand beehive ;D)

Come the Battle of Berlin, the Reichstag was still a shell. It had been unused since it was set on fire in 1933 and inside was just rubble.  Hitler had planned to refurbish it when it was to become part of the much larger 'Volkshalle'.

No, it wasn't touched until 1961 when it was only partially refurbished to make it structurally sound... otherwise, they were going to have to knock it down. During WW2 the Reichstag was a complete mess; there wasn't much use for it during Nazi reign as they had essentially relinquished Parliament of all it's power, and on top of the fire in 1933 it was also hit by a British bomb in 1940. Really, there's not much point spending money on refurbishing a useless old building that's only going to get damaged in air raids, seems a little counter productive.
