1. Religion
2.English
name some more if you want
Here are my reasons for Religion. All it does is constantly repeat itself and gives usless information that has no affect in our life whatsoever(And cause im an anthiest) :D
English, its not really english its more like a WTF subject, such as "wat does the author mean to say when in the book it says its raining?" WTF IT MEANS ITS FUCKING RAINING >:(
-
Actually, English is a very important subject - perhaps one of the most. It isn't just about interpreting what Shakespeare or whatever other author meant when they wrote something but also about expressing ideas and opinions in a coherent and clear manner. Too many people these days talkz lik dey got droopd on dere hed as a kid.
Religion should be covered in Psychology or History, not a subject of its own where people force ideas on you. Rather, it should be about the social or historical significance of religious groups, practices and beliefs.

Strongly agree on there, but for english all we do now is interepret these things instead of actual engilsh. some things i cant spell anymore, but otherwise english does teach a good things, i really meant to say the subject i think is useless is interpreting the author. i really do like that cause im not really poet like.

I can't remember doing much in Religious education, we didn't learn much about religion though. I disagree that it's useless, ignorance is one of the worst things on the planet, a poor education in this field can quickly lead to prejudice. However, If I was in charge of the curriculum, I would replace RE with Sociology... which is basically what the class was anyway to a lesser extent.
I personally didn't find any class at school useless. That said, I can't remember a single thing I was taught in Chemistry.

totally +1

Atheism the largest growing religion in the world ;D
-
i agree that if you have a whole class for religion, its a bit absurd. i learned about all the major religions in what we call social studies, but that also included history and other stuff. ass for english, i think that its pretty useful, but mostly to reporters, newspaper editors, novelists, and such.

Or to those whose mother tongue is another language ;)
Holding presentations about London at the moment.
-
All off the hardcore Math stuff! X- Y / 38 = ?? and all that Pointdexter stuff! Just learn out the basic stuff ffs! XD My dad said he have NEVER in his entire life have use of that kind of stuff. And then it should be mention he is in the submarine corps!
-
There's no useless subject - basically everything is connected to our life ( excluding hardcore math - I'm waiting patiently for the day to come when I'll need to use those delta formula), however I'd replace religion with morality lessons or sth like that. If you want learn about religion go to church or read Bible or other holy stuff.
-
I agree with the others as there really is not a useless subject in school.
That said, I can not think of an area to apply Calculus BC other than engineering. Damn anti-derivatives and formulas.

quantum physics?

Atheism the largest growing religion in the world ;D
Its not a religion, its just atheism. It is fast because people are realizing how bad religion really is if you watch the news, theres always some war going on in the middle east about religion, well not knwo but there usually was. And it stops human progress
-
I know a useless subject and I'm sure it's totally useless, "The principles of Marxism and Leninism"

Atheism is the belief that religion does not exist and we are created by evolution.
Because it is based around central beliefs it can be considered a religion.
Not caring is what I am. I don't care if a god of sorts put me here or if I evolved from monkeys. The point is I'm here now and I am going to try my best to work hard into the world and try the "Rags to Prosperity" as my family before me.
(By the way, I was raised Roman Catholic. Catholic school all that. Church 3 times a week. Ugh.)
-
And it stops human progress
i would disagree. i think that, for the most part, (excepting satanic worship and stuff) most religions try to move people tword morals and stuff. of course, when its misinturpeted is where wars like the crusades and stuff happen. even atheists should see that religoin has done more good than bad.
as the famous philosopher voltaire put it, If God didn't exist it would be necessary to invent him.
-
Religion isn't necesaairly bad (even though some ppl will argue it is used to shroud and decieve the poor and ignorant). Having a class on one peticular religion and going in depth may be a bit too much (IDK why all you guys seem to have this, I never took a religion class) but having a class that teaches about multiple religions can be of use. It can never hurt to broden you spectrums and learn about new things. For there are many bad assumptions about people due to their religion and its very detrimental to society.
School doesn't make english too interesting due to the regents. They need to prep and get students ready for this dumb test. Standardized test in general hurt schools b/c students and teachers must waste time trying to drone into children's head how to answer multiple choice questions or how to read through a passage fast and find mistakes. Instead this time could be used to explore novels, their meanings and purpose, and why their work was so notable. And classes could take time to decifer the book b/c every author writes the book for a reason, not jst to torment children ::)
BTW when I asked my teacher why do peple learn and study advanced math he replied "for the love and pursuit of arithmatics" :P. Another teacher replied "The only thng you can do with math is teach math" XD

Religion is fundamentally flawed in that it requires complete faith and devotion to something not proven (or with any real evidence) to exist. Whole groups of people are manipulated into thinking or acting a certain way by certain individuals who know "God's will". Much of religion can be interpreted in certain ways by individuals, who use it to commit acts of evil - 9/11 etc. Throughout history, religion has been used to suppress science, free thought and democracy.
It teaches nothing about morals. Is it moral to disallow abortions and birth control for individuals or countries that CANNOT support their children and they will suffer through the rest of their lives? Is it moral to call love between 2 men or women a sin and abomination? Is it moral for men to be killed for shaving their beard? (It's in there! :P)
Most people I know are atheist and know right from wrong. Religion teaching morals is not true at all. Religion is usually used as justification for extremely immoral acts.
Mattdamon and I are from Australia, where religion is a compulsory subject in primary schools and private schools, if anyone's wondering.
-
Well religion used to be a guidelines on how to live and conduct ones self (ten commandments for example). It when people start to develop ulterior motives and begin to abuse people's willingness to believe does evil occur and suddenly, one persons actions cause a ideology to become tarnished. Individual acts like 9/111 (although no that individual as I make it seem) has suddenly turned the US against the Islamic faith (if you ever listen to any person talk about Muslims here, its all uninformed hate and disdain ::)). We must realize that these single people are the ones using religion for their own purposes and must see past them if we want peace (or more peace than currently)
-
Mattdamon and I are from Australia, where religion is a compulsory subject in primary schools and private schools, if anyone's wondering.
What do you learn in that subject? I'm curious ;D
And which language have the same grammar with English?
-
It is the religious "justification" that these people have that allows them to attract followers and perform these acts though. Religion is an enabler for these people to believe what they do is right. The morals argument doesn't stand up at all. Both the Quoran and Bible are angry books and it's certainly not limited to these two. Just the other day there was a human sacrifice in India to pray for a fertile year or something.
Most people act moral just because that's how they are. Religion didn't grant them that. If everyone were to stop indoctrinating their kids with religion and just taught ethics and morals anyway, their generation would be just as, if not more, moral than previous ones.
Religion is oftentimes used as an excuse to knowingly do something bad because "Jesus forgives". Committing adultery and then confessing doesn't make it any less wrong.
Dann88: I imagine it's pretty much like a Sunday school thing in other countries, where you just read Bible passages and talk about how Jesus died so people can sin without an apocalypse. I remember using the class just to practice drawing.
-
Sucks for you Aussies. In America its never a compulsory subject unless you go to a religious private school (a Yeshiva or a Catholic school). Even then many people don't really believe in it.
I, myself a Jew find it extremely hard to believe in a Gods existence after what he has done to my people, if he had ever existed. We weren't the chosen race as in we were a greater group of people with superior morals, IMO we were chosen as the Roaches of the Earth, forced to scurry from one hell to another with only small lulls to break the maddening tones of death. Whenever I ask a religious Christian or Muslim why it happened, they say its because God has forsaken us. If so then why the hell are they so damn special. I would much rather be a Pagan (whom I find quite fascinating) than be a member of any Abrahamic religion. Better a man who stays to his beliefs and morals than be a hypocritical pig so seeks to break the rules he set out for himself (though shalt not sleep with thine neighbors wife, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not blah blah blah) its all trash. We all do it in some form or another.
Wow, super rant there XD. BTW I'm still a proud Jew, but to me its more of a race than a religion.
Most useless Subject in the world? Hrmm Hard one, stuck between Theology and 12th Century English Poetry
-
I abhor poetry >:(
And I think some people join religion for the wrong reasons. But people also join religion b/c they have no where else to turn, no greater calling or greater oppurtunity. It at least gives people a beacon of hope. Without this light the masses would be stuck in darkness. I personally dont agree with some religious practices or beliefs but for some it teaches disiplne and good behavior and for others its and emotionally and spritual outlet that guides them
-
i very much hate when i say that christianity is utterly useless, and then someone says, but they made christian virtues such as the shall not kill. CHRISTIANS DIDNT FUCKEN INVENT THOSE LAWS.ITS NOT CHRISTIAN VIRTUES ITS HUMAN VIRTUES!!!!@@@

This thread's gonna get locked...
-
yep good idea
-
This thread's gonna get locked...
Well as long as we stay appropriate it shouldn't have to get locked :P
Which means no hating on any one religion. And if you must say something about it, present it as constructive critisism.
But back on topic my school made me learn 3 subjects: Art, Health, and Music. All of which were a complete waste of time. The ciriculum that that these teachers must ahere to is absolutely boring and is presented in a way that is very uninformative. They taught me nothing new and quite frankly I could have devoted my time to better things :P
-
Change it's to useful subjects then :P When I was in highschool, me and most the guys in my class played Counter Strike together in computer class, funny like hell ;D. Things don't change much when I'm in college but less fun because we play Dota then, which only support 10 players :P
-
hahahaha and i got 30% in my religion exam :D. anyway, wouldnt computer class be media?
-
For me its gonna be art class...
Though maybe it just that in Indonesia we are thought every single type of lesson (Math, Bio, Physics, Chemist, Sociology, Economy, Religion, English, Bahasa, Local Language, etc...) that make Art class become very useless in my opinion...
Plus, the art class is basically every possible type of art and each year my teacher changes so sometimes it will be classic, other will be retro, and other force student in to countless drawing...
Now I don't even remember what have I learned from that class except the female teacher is hot...
Other than that, I believe the Biology is the worthless class...
Not that Biology itself is worthless, but my teacher teach in to detail that shouldn't have been (Teaching that there is rhesus plus and negative is good but teaching the history, application, and numerous detail while the subject has 3/4 of its material unexplained yet isn't good idea)...
-
you have to be artistic to like art, its really only in some people others it really isnt, im not sure about architecture though, you need maths and art for that or you could really just use your imagination
-

Can I ask how you played counter strike on school comps? We are playing Halo right now but we want Counter strike ;D
-
All the computers in pratice room are connected on LAN together and my teacher was so kind that he installed counter strike on every comps so we just wait for his host and then have fun ;D (he's suck btw :P)if not we just create our own game and enjoy after the lesson ;D
If your school comps are already on LAN, just installed it and play if not then use some virtual LAN if you had the internet access. CS 1.6 and Source are the best for competitive matches, I think.
-
Where do you download it from? Just curious :P
-
From any sites, I think they're free since it didn't demand any CD key at all. I remebered download it completely free from Garena :P
-
I personally don't care about any subject cause as our school is specialisted on programming every pupil has the WIFI password and our classroom has computers in the desks. We could easily download anything we want but we don't do it cause our teachers trust us. I mean at the end it's a school for volunteers.
-

Somehow it reminds me of my High School teacher...
Except instead of us misuse it the connection for download, out teacher misuse it by redirect the connection to his house...
Well, he didn't well paid by my school, so...

Just to let you know human sacrifice is illegal here. The Idiots who did so are going to be behind bars for the rest of their life.
-
Obviously it's illegal but the nutjobs think their religious motivations were actually moral and important. Same with Aztecs and other central American cultures.
-
Most human sacrifices in India were over by the 10th century. Only a few fringe cults do that sort of BS
-
it was proberly an excuse for population control.
-
We will be the world's most populous nation within a few years. To control population in India you have to go crazy with a MG42 shooting nonstop for 3 hours straight to put a momentary dent.
-
just to be sure, what country do you live in tankbuster?
-
He's from India, just look at his profile ;)
-
Just b/c a few ppl use religion as a means and justification doesnt make the whole spiritual system bad. If there wast religion ppl would just use other excuses and suddenly that becomes bad as well. We need to take a greater look at the people who commit these cimes and into their motives and mentality.
And I think TB is the only Indian on EF (no offense, that makes you special)
-
well, im the only californian in EF, and you and neosdark are the only new yorkers in EF, (i think) does that make us special? :D
-
We all belong in the US (you are thinking too nation wide) He is the only person from that country. There is a crap load of ppl from the US here on EF :P
BTW Crainialwizard is from NY
-
oh well. doesnt hurt to ask.
-
Religion is very important idc what religion it is. I know haters are always like hey god doesnt exist cuz you can prove he's there. I think the Idea of there being a god is what keeps humanity in check for the most part. If you think you will be judged and punished for bad deeds in the afterlife you are goin to do far less bad deeds than if you didnt blieve. If you want a world even more corrrupt with destruction, violence, deception, hate, etc. then by all means lets abolish religion.
And the Bible is more of a guide on how one should live his life. Most ppl who read the Bible will come to realize that (with the whole god part aside) this seeming pedestrian book has alot of wise teachings that no upstanding community should be without, you know except the genesis part which is more about creation than morals or values.
-
As far as pointless classes go, any level of mathematics higher than simple/applied math is pointless unless you plan on working in a field that requires you to solve algebraic equations. I havent had to use anything higher than simple math once in my life since I graduated high school 6 years ago.
-
Religion also serves as a microscope into the past and as a guide to history. Its shows the moral and social values upheld at that time and will always unlock secrets to the past. Were those values always good? No. Was that history always positive? No. But at least we can learn more :P
-

I'm probably the only Indian who plays COH. People here know 3 games Counterstrike; FIFA; NFS.

sad. not even one rts game.

Not many ppl play rts games anymore :-\. They just want a rush from fps games now :P

Honestly, my least favourite subject was ICT. It was basically five years spent learning how to save a Microsoft Word document. I'm glad that they are moving towards computer science instead. Damn I was born to late.

@Tankbuster
India got that?
In Indonesia the games are: Point Blank, Winning Eleven, and HoN...
You can't get near any Game Center and Game Shop without see those...
Only three people in my community that play RTS and none play CoH because you can't spam-rush-win ala CnC and you can't build farm...
Freaking farm... >:(
-
What do you mean by "you can't build a farm"? What game are u refering to ???
C+C Generals isnt so bad :P
-
CC genrals is a good game
-
LOL this conversation got way off topic before it even got started
-
It is in Off Topic so no issue here :P
-
What do you mean by "you can't build a farm"? What game are u refering to ???
C+C Generals isnt so bad :P
Age of Empire 2 and any other civ series...
I don't say they are bad but doesn't play other RTS because you can't build farm like AoE is very very stupid >:(
Yes, Generals is fun and one of my favorite RTS, but here people don't play other RTS because you can't spam like Generals, which is also stupid though yes spamming can be fun when you are done with study or work...
-
Lulz not playing other RTS because you can't really build up your economy is ridiculous.
I still play Age of Empires 2, I even play Age of Chivalry: Hegemony (super mod of AoEII for those of you who don't know), but not playing other RTS' for that reason only is just plain dumb.
-
I have just realized that Environmental classes are a bit tedious. My exam is tomorrow, there is no clear cut lesson plan, and my teacher emailed me a potential 175 topics the test could have. -_-

Everyone always seems to find a lack of importance in enviromental studies. My friend is enironmental science and finds no point to it and it's the worst class on his schedual for now(next to trigonometry). But all thee other classes are full so he's stuck. I blame the teachers for not making it fun :P
-
LoL the coolest (but ultimately pointless) class I ever took ws a Golf Rules and Etiquette class I took for the hell of it in Community College :P
-
Was it fun ???. Did you play mini golf in college? ;D
-
lol no this was about big boy golf ::) :P

I play the Hegemony mod.
-
I like RTS that offer a challenge, but not too hard. I also like it when the AI isn't a flaming retard ::)(spamming units that will de, sending them to srandom places).
I also dont like when the AI has like 90% accuracy in FPS games. iTs just so ridiculous. I remember in Medal of Honor Allied Assault where on normal difficuly the Axis snipers have 100% accuracy and ALWAYS know where you are. You cant hide in, say a bush or behind a tree. The second you step out of cover BAM! You lose 1/6 of your health. And guess what? One map has like 10-15 snipers!. I rage quit near the end >:( :'(.
-
Allied Assualt was a good game, that mission with the snipers, i always keep my men alive so i can spot the snipers.
-
I thought AA was a good game too, especially for its time (2005 IIRC?). But those DAMN SNIPERS! One part of the mission an allied soldier was wounded so he yelled out for help (something stupid like that). So I thought "Oh I should walk over to him and help". Second I step out; Boom! Sniper Hit! >:(
-
i dont remember it being that hard really, the hardest for me was probaly some of those snow ones, couldnt see shit, my favourite missions are the Afrika ones
-
i dont remember it being that hard really, the hardest for me was probaly some of those snow ones, couldnt see shit, my favourite missions are the Afrika ones
I think you are thinking of the expansion pack MOH: Spearhead. That game had the winter missions and
There was also MOH: Blitzkrieg which had all the africa missions you're thinkng of :P
Im talking about the originally though
-
AA did have winter missions.
-
But not that many. I think it had one where you look for the submarine and the German Shepards attack you :P
-
MOH: Airborne ;D
-
MOH: Airborne ;D
Never played it but i have it :P. Was it fun?
-
If you dont mind that the game towards the end rape murder the realism of the game.
Its Pretty fun yes :D. One of those game you play through and like: yeah, that was a good game. And never play it again XD
-
If you dont mind that the game towards the end rape murder the realism of the game.
Why what happened ??? ? Dozens of Germans converged on your spot and you had to hold them off until reinforcements arrived?
-
No no, that would be positive! I was hoping you would ask actually! XD
Well, Airborne is unique in that way that you jump with a parachute into the map and start fighting. This is awesome but in normal gameplay sense the map can´t be be to big. This means that you jump DIRECTLY down on the enemys fortifactions. IRL= Suicide. Well well, its a game. As I wrote this aint something they could do something about. They have to think about the game! And yeah, its okay actually :D You land on rooftops and in bombed farms etc other cool obstacles and directly runs into action. So that point is actually okey except the last level.
SPOILER ALERT!<3
In this level that is taking place late in the war you are to take out one of the famous flaktowers. Well, okey I guess? It will be like storming a fortress? Land outside and clear that batcave full of fanatic nazis out!...
N0.
You parachute directly down on the top of the flaktower. Basically you throw yourself in a wave of concentrated AA fire. And here its like, it could have been okey if I could land outside in the nearby town or on the outskirts of the map like on the other maps. But somewhere EA took and total overdose of patriotism and scripted the poor player down in the blob. Not only that, Here you meet ALL kind of troops.
We got.
A shit load of guys with panzerschrecks with endless of rockets that they use to shoot at you like it was a smallarm.
Guys with the famous black SS uniforms armed with stg44 straight from a wolfenstein game hunting you down.
( I know we all love that uniform but sad but true to citate Metallica, that uniform was taking out of duty in 1939.)
And my favorite.
Guys with gasmask with red eyes. Helmets, the black SS uniform and mg42 that they use Rambo style. Not only that, these guys have HP like an smaller tank ( take like 2 rockets to take them down?)
so you get the wolfenstein feeling that ¨ the only thing missing is somekind of power armour?¨.
Dont get me wrong dear comrade. Like I said, its a descent game. Its just that the last level its like.. Yeah, MOH left and some scifi thingy took over XD
I am actually one of those guys who like WW2 scifi themes and have no problem at all with it. But in Airborne they had this Medal of honour realism all the way until the grand finale were they destroyed it all XD
Edit: You cant pick up theirs mg42 either ;C
And owh YES!. I dont know about you guys. But I had to learn dancing in my school. Kind of useless! :p
-
We have dancing in our school. But its not mandatory ;)
-
Dancing was mandatory for us till the 5th grade.
-
Me 2 :P. But up until 4th or 3rd gradee IIRC. We had to do plays. I was the grasshopper XD
-
No lines to memorize eh?
-
We had to sing songs ;D
-
I did play a monkey once, thankfully I had no lines.
-
LOL sounds like fun XD. Im sure it was funny too :-*
-
Lol singing in plays was really awkward for me at about 6th grade when my voice was deeper than everybody else's
-
LOL sounds like fun XD. Im sure it was funny too :-*
All I had to do was throw a cap, that was it. But I did get marks for participating in the play.
-

You get to rule over everyone else with your voice XD
-
Like a Opera singer with a Baritone ;D
