Title: Map idea: Flaktum
Post by: Andreas on January 14, 2012, 06:57:14 PM
Hi again.
I have an idea for a map: A urban map, with a HUGE "flakturm" (or "flaktower") in the middle. The flakturm will be a huge concrete bunker like strukture you can't enter like a "normal" structure and can't destroy (or at least it should be VERY hard to do so). Instead it will be empty in the middle so you can get troops, tanks and other stuff in there, like the huge halls in Panzer Krieg and the map "carpiquet".

The map should be a huge 8 player map, and it should be possible to build flak 38 and flak 36 on top like IRL, to make a huge area denial zone.

Either: The tower should be in the middle of the map. It will be a very important strategic point.
Or: The germans start with their HQs inside the flakturm, and have to defend it. The flaktowers were some of the last standing areas of berlin so it wouldn't be out of place..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flak_tower
http://www.german-architecture.info/GERMANY/TEN/TEN-NS-13.htm

I dont know if it is possible to make. But i think it will be very nice, if it is.

Cheers!

Hallo Andreas,

Christian (MrScruff) hat einen Flakturm gebaut - nur aus Relic-Elementen - und begehbar.
Christian (MrScruff) has built a flak tower - only Relic items - and walkable.

Hallo,

Ich kann die Karte hochenladen, oder einen "Stamp" machen oder wie das im Worldbuilder heißt (Karte ist nicht fertig).
I can upload the map, or make a "stamp" or whatever it's called the World Builder (Map is not finished).

Mit freundlichem Gruß, Frank
Sincerely, Frank

I would be happy if you could do so, so i can copy it to another map.

Thank you very much

Hey Frank!

Hey Frank!
What's the maps name?
It looks absolutly amazing. I would like to adapt this map (if it is possible) to the campagin so everybody would have something of it.
Regards Walji

It's interesting what people can create just using in-game assets, this is pretty cool ;D

If you make a campaign map, can you release the map then for multiplayer and skirmish use?

I think I can make a new Berlin map out of this using the one that playmobil and I made. It would not be a replacement but a supliment to it but with identical map design, just rearranged around the flak tower.

We are planning on releasing all campagin maps for MP, too.

Nice to hear.

I think this picture shows some very huge potential, for stuff like flaktowers bunker etc. Im excited to see what kind of maps people will come up with!

To all of you, requesting the map: It isn't finished and I don't think it's worth uploading. But I can give yo the stamp of the Flakturm, if you want. Simply place it here:
Code: [Select]
C:\Users\%username%\Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes\ww2\Data\WBData\Stamps\TemporaryIf this directory doesn't exist, create it.
To use it on your maps, simply open the stamp tool, check every box under "Filters", select the flakturm stamp in the "temporary" directory and place it with a rightclick. You may want to adjust the height of the flakturm because the stamp contains some surrounding terrain.
You can download the flakturm.stamp here (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?4xo47qeaccv83re).

Looking forward to see some maps!

Oh, i see.. I looked, and looked but couldn't find it.. Until i realised it could be outside the playable zone :'(

Can i open the map in the editor and make the playable area a -little- bigger? Or can i only do that with SGB files?

Cheers

So what do you want to do with that Flakturm? It has no real function other than looking good. There is really no need to have it in the playable area. Additionally, the place it stands is historically correct, there were three Flaktürme in Berlin; one was situated in the Tiergarten, this is where it actually stood.

Concerning your plans of enlarging the playable area - in order to do that, you would have to stamp the whole map and paste it into a new scenario. To be able to stamp, you'd need a working stamp tool first which is only possible with Cope's WB pipeline fix, you can download that fix in the tutorial section.
However when you have achieved all that, you'd need to exchange each object that was placed in the former off map area - because they are pasted as visual only objects, without collision - the latter isn't needed off map.

If you still want to do that, go ahead. Otherwise I'd think about uploading the stamp file of my modified Flakturm.

Finally, about .sgb files - basically an .sga file is nothing else than an archive, containing all the files belonging to a map, including the sgb file. So in the end there is no big difference between .sga and .sgb - you'd only have to extract the files, that's all.

I like the idea of putting it SOMEWHERE in the map. Maybe also make it a reinforcement point?

Already answered, no.

Balanced maps do not contain weapons and fhqs for the sake of...well balance. Then it becomes a "first team to get to the flak wins"

This could be an idea for a campaign mission, otherwise

no.

Indeed! They tried to blow them up after WWII because the Flaktürme didn't solve any purpose anymore, but they failed because the concrete was just too massive. Today there's a disco in one of Hamburg's remaining Flaktürme.

No! There's nothing saver than a German Flakturm. ;)
I've seen some westwall bunkers in my area. The most of them were blown up by french troops after the war.

the only thing that i can think of that has even a chance of destroying a flaktower is a grand-slam bomb. that or the fat-man nuke lol

Well, the Soviet Arty will FLATTEN the FLAK on the Flakturm thus rendering it useless. (Ingame)
