Title: Spam Bots
Post by: neosdark on January 18, 2012, 05:08:51 AM
Am I the only one getting pissed of by these god forsaken spambots? Is there anyway to get rid of them, somehow create a system or password that will allow you to post. Mayhap make it a passed secret among Mumble users or just the more professional posters get this access code. It would stem the tide of random bullshit, spam and noob rants (very few of these as of late). Perhaps associate it with the post count, a minimum of 300 posts to gain access to create new posts.

Good idea with those post count, however remember that spambots are relentless and if needed they might create 300 spamposts. Who's gonna tide it up then??
I agree with Walki that we need extra moderators if needed.

Also remember that those bots are humans and are also creating posts.

Also we need new users be able to post new threads in the tech support. Anyway, just report them and they are usually deleted within 10 mins.

I think we already got very far in the war against the spambots. Normally there should always be a moderator who can delete the thread immediatly and ban their Ip

I was given access to the banhammer yesterday. Up until now, I'd just been deleting accounts.

I'm keeping an eye on our Latest Members, 80% of the time they are Spambots and you can get them before they post anything.

You can tell when people are spam bots. They have a crap load of links and contacts in their profile and their name is werid.

I agree. We need new moderators. Maybe make other members moderators (trusted people, balancers, mappers? :P). We don't need that many, just enough to stop the recent wave of spam

Is it just me or do spam bots remind you of conscript/rifle spam?

I think I know where those bots come from and how they register.

I updated the forum to the most current version and added another question as well as made the security picture harder. If it still protists I will put up the official reCAPTCHA engine.
