Title: Why was Naval Infantry Chosen?
Post by: bopokippo on January 28, 2012, 02:10:16 AM
Just wondering why you guys chose naval infantry of all things because to be honest I don't really recall many (or any for that matter) decisive battles involving naval infantry. Soviet naval power was not to strong to begin with considering its geographic location so why naval infantry? Maybe shock-troops or something... Just wondering!

Essentially IIRC it was because we had the model and the skin available and we said well why not.

Unless BB can prove me wrong?

4 Its a unique and cool ranger equivalent
5 Its a good replacement for the disgusting trenches
6 Alot of ppl was beggin the forum for them to be included

Essentially this, and we had the skin handy anyway, so it was a good replacement. Trench Warfare doesn't suit COH too well.
Their SVT-40s + DP-28/PTRD upgrades have them function sort of like a mix between Rangers and Stormtroopers, which in it's own are unique.
Plus, they just look badass.

I should mention they are cool, no? ;D

The most important reason why they're included should be because of gameplay reasons.  Soviets needed a Stormtrooper equivalent to complement the light armor rush tactic, and Naval Infantry fit the bill perfectly.  And yes, they do look badass.

They saw alot more action than some other units in CoH and EF, we're not trying to create an interactive history lesson here.

Historically Soviet Naval Infantry regiments and brigades were used in a number of battles, notably in Stalingrad and Sevastopol.

The Naval Infantry are cool, I just don't like that you are forced to only choose one type of weapon for them. When play at Wehr, I always liked to use 1 Panzer/1 MG34 whenever I was speccing my Panzergrenadiers, and if I am right, the Naval Infantry function similarly. (I don't really use them as often as guards. sometimes I use them for AT)

You can equip a naval squad with DP28 and PTRD at the same time just as a gren squad with schreck and LMG.

They were changed with patch 1.6 ;) Now they can hold 2 different weapons. What Killar said :P.
