Title: Wintermap Conversions
Post by: Lord van Dalen on February 04, 2012, 08:29:21 PM
I've started to convert the EF wintermaps to BotB wintersettings. The converted maps will come together with the Ostheer.

Progress:
Kiev: 100%
Kharkov: 100%
Kholm: 85%
Kalach: 45%

http://www.file-upload.net/download-3983261/Eastern-Front.rar.html

Extract the .rar to your Eastern_Front folder.
After that you can find a lots of new winter objects in the world builder. ebps/art_nature/.../winter_...
Also there is a new tile folder called "snow".

Replace existing objects by using the "assign" button.
pine_01 > winter_pine_01

I can give you a work in progress map, so you can stamp my preset splats and splines.

What Lord van Dalen is trying to achieve is basically to replace the existing vanilla objects on our winter maps with those he brought here from the "Battle of the Bulge" mod. These include winter-like skinned environment objects such as trees, bushes, hedges and so on. :)

I've got e new job and so there was no time for mapping in the last month. But now I resume the work.

Just out of curiosity is it possible to make a blizzard? That would look really cool (maybe in a campaign like Stalingrad) :D
Title: Re: Wintermap Conversions
Post by: Lord van Dalen on August 30, 2012, 04:58:05 AM
I've tested some new "rain" textures a few week ago. Heavy snowfall is not a problem but a blizzard looks a little crappy if you move the camera on the battlefield or rotate the camera angle.

Post by: stealthattack1 on August 30, 2012, 09:47:02 PM
i would actually prefer no blizzard in actual play, as it would block vision, but as fish said about a campaign.....

That's because they're mounds of snow, not haystacks. However they do have little rocks in them which looks a bit strange (DX10).

What happened to all the other Winter Map Conversions by Van Dalen? I miss Kharkov 1v1, Karachev 3v3 and Kholm 2v2
Title: Re: Wintermap Conversions
Post by: Max 'DonXavi' von B. on December 06, 2012, 03:58:00 PM
Kharkov was deleted due to the fact that it completely failed to be what its original aim was; to be a competetive 1v1 map. That measure was even posted in the balance section, I wonder why you didn't take notice of it.

By Karachev you probably mean Kiev, it's included in the latest version of EF.
As you can see on the first page, Kholm isn't finished yet.
Title: Re: Wintermap Conversions
Post by: Killar on December 06, 2012, 04:33:55 PM
Removing Kharkov was a alone decision by you. It was playable, because reworked by me and balanced by the team. If you are referring to the map size being to small to be a 1v1 map, you would also need to delete Moskau. I would love to see the Wintermap conversion by Van Dalen. I hope we will see this map at least in a campaign mission.
Sorry i meant Kalach not Karachev. Van Dalen also worked on a conversion and didnt post in a while, so im wondering about its fate.

Title: Re: Wintermap Conversions
Post by: Max 'DonXavi' von B. on December 06, 2012, 05:16:06 PM
Sure it was playable, however I wonder why it was actually never played or suggested as tourney map - at the end of the day, it was just there which is no justified reason for keeping it. There are far better 1v1 maps coming soon..
No campaign mission is planned for this very version of Kharkov.
