Title: 2 questions
Post by: conscript900 on February 05, 2012, 08:04:37 AM
first question i have is about the map stalingrad, i have found this map harder than any other map i have played and am wondering is there something done to the map to make it harder than intended, or is it just a bug?

second question is why does the sniper have to be upgraded to act like any other sniper?

The sharpshooter is the way it is so you can choose which way you want to specialise him. He can become a Sniper like the other factions' at the same cost, or the Spotter team. Soviets have a lot of units already and since the units are built on the same base unit, it makes sense to combine them into the branched upgrade.

thank you for that data.

IMO the time it takes to build a sniper is too short. Once it come out of your barracks (or w/e that building is called) you'll have around 150mp. As the sniper walks to the front line it can simply upgrade, meaning that SU can deploy thier snipers faster. And if the sniper is walking towards the front lines and suddenly dies, youonly lose 140 mp and not as much time. If it were US or Wher, you'd lose like 340 mp and alot of building time.

I think the map is so large and there is such a lack of both cover and buldings tat it becomes hard to secure teritory easily.

I still don't understand what you mean by difficult. You mean against a CPU!? Please elaborate.

Against an AI that's not a map issue.

Stalingrad is a huge map. Takes troops a long time to seek each other out. In PvP while I'm not a fan of the map I wouldn't say it's easier or harder than any other map that we play. Vehicle pathing is a bit odd but it's ok

This is a good point but we'd already considered it. The Sharpshooter build time + Sniper upgrade time is longer than the US sniper build time to compensate. It can still get to the front lines a little faster but you must also remember that Soviet snipers hit the field later than Wehr or US Snipers.

Unless there is an immediate rush for snipers bypassing the RAMT first.

But even then, building the building, teching up, getting the sharpshooter, and getting the sniper is still slower than getting a sniper from either WQ or WSC

Stalingrad map was released with the patch by accident.

Lol I actually think the Soviet sniper is a little too fast as well. I hardly use him, but when I do, it almost feels too cheap. It costs 35 fuel to unlock him, however.

There will be a decent replacement in the near future, don't worry.  :)

Something entirely new, built from scratch by me and maybe some others if there's anyone who would support me because I lack time ;)

If you do make a new EF can it please be 2 vs 2? I personally prefer 2 vs 2 and IMO there aren't enough 2 vs 2 EF maps :(

Oh oh Fish, the majority of the maps EF brings are 2v2 maps, just take a closer look. :)
It will be a 3v3 map to represent the epicness of Stalingrad and to match its predecessor ;)

I'll have to take another look at the EF maps :P.

I have a irrelvant question. Not sure where to ask. When I was playng a 2vs2 automatch game on vCOH my cursor was acting retarted :(. When I clicked a single infantry squad it selected everyone in the area which didnt make sense. When I tried to click on a point on the map the attack signal activates and I cant go to that part of the map. My partner was genuenly confused and didnt know what was wrong with me. My infantry also would not listen to my orders and obviously ended up dying.

The game before this didnt have any problems so I thought mabe somehow the settings had been changed so I started a new game to test this out and stupidly enough it was fine. Everythng was working as it should have. Is it possible I was hacked ???

Maybe your mouse has ancountered a problem and it's messed up somehow. If I were you, I'd try out another mouse, lend one or search for another at your own place and if it'll work normally, buy a new mouse. :)

But evey single game I played after that one had zero problems :P. It was just that one where crazy crap happened. Oh well, hackers gonna hack :P.

BTW I checked the 2 vs 2 maps. You are right, there are more 2 vs 2 maps but IMO we need smaller, more balanced ones :P. IDK about you guys but I really dislike the map Kursk. Lemberg and Stalingrad are okay :P. Minsk is kinda.........unfavorable to me  :-\. Just my opinion ;)
Title: Re: 2 questions
Post by: Max 'DonXavi' von B. on February 16, 2012, 12:32:39 PM
Okay, I will have a look into it. What do you dislike regarding Kursk?

Minsk is going to undergo another surgery for 1.7, there will be much less obstacles and I'll see if I can make the river crossable everywhere.

Stalingrad, which I already told you, still is a 3v3 map, you probably mean Stalingrad Railroad Station ;)

There is another surprise for you guys in 1.7, one of Sylver's brilliant maps Kotelnikovo or Karachev is going to be added as 2v2 map. So finally there'll be a decent, balanced 2v2 map.

I don't like kursk because there is so much open territory and then a crap load of green cover near each VP, which sucks cause that means you cant really get close to it (like hoping from yellow to yellow cover). Also there are very few buildings (like 3 IIRC) and one of them cant even be turned to a FHQ :(. I know Kursk was a wide open space for tanks but still :P. Also the sector layout IMO is weird. I cant really describe it but it just feels awkward.

And yeah, I meant Stalingrad RR station :).

I have to correct myself - Minsk will stay as it is. I'll see if I can do something about the cover problems, definitely know what you mean.
